Chapter 1321: Chapter 1322: The Young Widow of the Courtyard 49

Zhang Yu observed the envious glances from everyone, easily imagining what they might be thinking, like assuming she was just lucky.

Many thought only n could get bicycle tickets, and surely didn’t believe Zhang Yu got the ticket herself.

Soon, the salesperson brought out a bicycle, and the family of three kept looking at it over and over.

Zhang Yu thought it was just a bicycle, nothing special to look at, unlike a luxury car.

Zhao Lei and Zhao Hong, however, were both excited, staring at the bicycle repeatedly.

With the kids so focused, Zhang Yu couldn’t just glance casually either, so she examined it carefully too.

Luckily, in those days, bicycles were considered big items. Even the bicycle counter staff found the family’s actions normal.

After a thorough inspection, Zhang Yu declared that there was no issue with the bike.

“Brother, can you take for a ride?” Zhao Hong looked at Zhao Lei hopefully.

Zhao Lei was quite embarrassed, “Xiao Hong, this bike is a bit tall, and I’m not good at riding.”

Among his peers, Zhao Lei was considered tall, but riding a 28-inch high bar was still challenging, and he had to ride with his feet on the triangle support.

“Alright,” Zhao Hong was truly disappointed.

“In a couple of years, when I’m taller, I can definitely take you for a ride,” Zhao Lei was already thinking about how to grow taller.

He rembered what Old Man Wang said, besides eating well, regular exercise and frequent jumping would help him grow taller.

To et his sister’s request sooner, Zhao Lei was determined that these were not problems, and he would make an effort.

“Mom, I’ll still ride with you.” Zhao Hong quickly changed her mind.

“Alright.” Zhang Yu looked at her daughter, who had just despised her, now trying to flatter her, amused.

“Let’s get the bike registered first.” Although the security was decent at the ti, petty thefts occasionally happened.

The onlookers were shocked, watching the mother and her two children leave, “They already have a bike, yet the new one is for the son.”

Heavens, “That child is only about ten, right?”

Imdiately, everyone felt a pang of jealousy, knowing that even with so age, buying a bicycle wasn’t easy.

Soone murmured, “Why is there such a disparity between people?”

The bike counter staff also felt uneasy inside.

Even though he sold bicycles, he didn’t own one. He had the money, but couldn’t get a bicycle ticket; without a ticket, one couldn’t buy a bicycle.

Zhang Yu leisurely rode behind Zhao Lei’s bicycle, watching her son pedaling hard, she couldn’t help but feel amused.

But thinking back, knowing the little guy would be unhappy to hear laughter from behind, she decided to hold back since he was her child.

“Mom, when I grow up, can you gift a bike too?” Zhao Hong looked enviously at Zhao Lei cycling in front.

That was sothing Zhang Yu couldn’t promise, not because she didn’t want to, or lacked the money, but because bicycle tickets were so hard to co by.

“No problem, I can ask my brother to pick up and drop off.”

“Bicycle tickets are hard to co by.” The little girl heard many envious and jealous comnts yesterday, learning how valuable Zhang Yu’s exchanged bicycle ticket was from their mouths.

Initially, to a little foodie, a big black fish was the most valuable. Why exchange it for a bicycle ticket when buying a bike didn’t cost money?

After Zhao Lei gave her so knowledge, the little girl understood the ticket’s importance. What amused her more was the jealous looks from the neighbors.

“With a bike, my brother will have more status when he gets married.” Zhao Hong spoke with a face that revealed she understood the bicycle’s significance.

Wow, Zhang Yu didn’t expect the little girl to understand this, “How do you know?”

Zhang Yu never talked about this topic in front of the kids, wondering if it was the won chatting at the recycling station entrance or the courtyard neighbors.

“Many people say that having a bicycle gives face when getting married.”

“Mom, am I right?” The little girl looked expectantly at Zhang Yu.

Zhang Yu nodded, “Yes, yes, if your brother has a bike, he won’t have difficulty getting married.”

She didn’t want to explain too much to a little girl, as marriage involves many factors, not just a bike.

But explaining all that would be too complicated, so Zhang Yu figured it was a task left for later, knowing children would forget by the ti they turned around.

As expected, Zhao Hong, sitting in the rear seat, was quickly distracted by sothing new.

At the police station, Zhang Yu quickly registered the bike and then went to deposit the money in the bank.

Seeing the money safely in the bank, Zhao Lei felt relieved, knowing how worried he had been the whole way, thinking about what if sothing happened to the money.

While cycling over, he considered offering to ride behind them, but knew even if he asked, Zhang Yu wouldn’t agree, so he could only pray in his heart for the money’s safety.

Looking at the savings in the passbook, Zhang Yu felt relieved, showed it to the kids, then put it away, essentially placing it in her secure space.

Things stored in that space were the safest, even more than in front of her eyes, as Zhang Yu felt uneasy nonetheless.

She worried that a mont’s inattention might lead soone familiar to snatch it away, which would be devastating because it represented the last asure to avoid depending on others.

After handling these matters, Zhang Yu hurried to the recycling station, where it was almost noon. Taking the cooking tools from Old Man Wang’s hands, she began preparing lunch.

Zhao Hong, excited for quite so ti, finally found soone and couldn’t stop talking about how nice the new bike was.

Even while cooking inside, Zhang Yu could hear her daughter’s excited voice.

There was nothing she could do about it; even though the docunts left by the original owner didn’t ntion Zhao Hong being talkative, she still noticed it.

Zhang Yu believed a talkative girl was better than a silent one, as it ant she wouldn’t hold grudges inside if bullied.

Zhao Lei was delighted to see his sister being expressive, which was way better than her following the Xue family’s girl and always listening to her.

But soon, he couldn’t stay happy, not expecting his sister’s chatter to reach topics about having a bike making getting married easier in the future.

Zhao Lei really wanted to grab his sister and pull her aside; he couldn’t understand why rely having a bike would make her think he’d easily get married later.

He never considered marrying to be difficult.

Wait, he’s just an elentary school student now. How did the topic drift to marriage? He still had to attend middle school, high school, and then college; marriage was a concern for the future.
