When Zhang Yu saw Zhou Kai the next day, she was truly stunned to see a handprint on his face.

It hadn’t faded even after a whole night, which ans it wasn’t just a normal slap—this was heavy-handed.

Of course Zhou Kai noticed Zhang Yu’s gaze fixed on his face. He was just about to say sothing when she suddenly rode off on her bike.

She just rode away, leaving Zhou Kai infuriated.

He wanted to chase after her, but he rembered Zhao Xuan hadn’t co down yet, so he had to wait for her.

When Zhang Yu learned of Zhou Kai’s grades, she knew he wouldn’t have it easy when he got ho. But she didn’t expect things to be this bad.

"And in such hot weather, he’s wearing long sleeves." Zhang Yu recalled sothing she had previously overlooked.

If soone’s still wearing long sleeves in this heat, Zhang Yu was sure he must have been whipped yesterday.

As an old father, he wouldn’t just think his son wasn’t good enough; he’d certainly think soone was holding his son back.

In her past life, it was her who got blad, because Zhao Xuan had better popularity than her.

As for now, there’s no way she could be dragged into this, since everyone knew that this sumr, the trio had completely fallen out. Zhang Yu kept to herself and was busy with various things, so even if Zhou Jian wanted to involve her, he couldn’t.

Zhao Xuan ca down with her backpack, and from a distance saw Zhou Kai waiting by the garage, thinking Zhang Yu hadn’t co downstairs.

But as she got closer, she noticed the injury on Zhou Kai’s face, "What happened to you?"

"Did your dad hit you?" Zhao Xuan recalled how back in elentary school, Zhou Kai had once been beaten after not doing well on a test.

She thought that Zhou Jian wouldn’t hit him now that he was older, but she hadn’t expected it to happen again.

Her gaze shifted to his arm and saw he was wearing long sleeves, "You, you..."

"Your dad actually whipped you with a belt?" Zhao Xuan looked incredulous, "How could he be so barbaric, how could he do that."

With tears about to fall, Zhao Xuan started worrying about Zhou Jian cutting Zhou Kai’s allowance in his anger.

Though his allowance wasn’t much, at least it was sothing. What to do? It’s hard to get by without enough money, Zhao Xuan thought, feeling exhausted.

Zhao Xuan’s tears only made Zhou Kai more upset, and he kept trying to cheer her up, "It’s okay, it really doesn’t hurt, it’s my fault for not working hard enough, for not studying well."

"Once I get better grades, my dad won’t treat like this." At least soone was comforting him; looking at Zhang Yu, she had just glanced at him and left without a word of comfort.

She was known for her cold heart. Zhou Kai couldn’t understand why he beca friends with Zhang Yu in the first place; she was the kind of person who shouldn’t have friends.

Zhou Jian didn’t expect that when he brought his son’s forgotten textbooks, he’d hear that girl Zhao Xuan bad-mouthing him behind his back, calling him all sorts of barbaric nas.

That made him furious. He never thought that Zhao Xuan, who was all polite to him face-to-face, would say such things behind his back; how could he not be angry?

He began to wonder how much of what that girl had said about Zhang Yu in front of him was true and how much was false.

What infuriated him further was hearing his own son agreeing with her, calling his father a barbarian who only knew how to hit and never knew how to discuss things and offer advice.

How could Zhou Jian endure that, knowing he had only one son, who now, thanks to Zhao Xuan’s instigation, felt dissatisfaction towards his father? Could their father-son relationship ever be good?

"So that’s why Xiao Kai has beco more rebellious. I never thought soone was behind the scenes bad-mouthing ."

"Zhao Xuan, you’re such a young girl but already so adept at being two-faced." Zhou Jian couldn’t and wouldn’t tolerate this.

Zhao Xuan hadn’t expected Zhou Jian to overhear, and she panicked, "Uncle Zhou, I, I..."

What was going on? Wasn’t he supposed to be at work by now? How was he still here, and how much did he hear? Zhao Xuan wanted to defend herself but didn’t know how to start.

This ti was peak hours for going to school and work, and there were many people around the garage; with Zhou Jian’s loud voice and his anger, his voice was even louder, drawing a crowd.

Zhou Jian grew angrier as he thought about it. His son was so good, yet because of Zhao Xuan’s ddling, their relationship had deteriorated.

In his anger, he scolded Zhao Xuan harshly, "You seem nice, but in fact you deceive people into buying you things privately."

"You used to feign pity to make Zhang Yu buy you things, and after you weren’t together, you tricked my son into buying you things all the ti."

"How on earth can an engineer’s daughter not afford things, yet insist on having other n buy you things? You’re just like your mother."

Zhou Jian recalled past events, convinced Zhao Xuan was no good.

Zhao Xuan had never experienced anything like this, and at first, she was too stunned to react. By the ti she wanted to argue back, Zhou Jian’s loud voice had drawn quite a crowd.

While people usually looked at her because of her good grades and other talents, now they stared with suspicion thanks to Zhou Jian’s words.

At first, everyone found Zhou Jian’s claims hard to believe, since Zhao Xu and his wife’s salaries weren’t high, and they only had one daughter, Zhao Xuan.

But seeing Zhao Xuan hesitate to rebut, they gradually believed it. If it wasn’t true, wouldn’t she have loudly denied it?

Since she couldn’t bring herself to deny it, everyone concluded she was indeed using Zhou Jian’s money.

When Zhao Xuan finally reacted, she heard people whispering about her everywhere, and furiously retorted, "Uncle Zhou, how can you say that about , where..."

It wasn’t even like she wanted those things; Zhou Kai insisted on buying them, and there was no way to reject them.

And now it was all her fault? She wasn’t going to carry that bla; it was absurdly heavy.

"I knew you’d say it wasn’t you asking for it, that Zhou Kai insisted on giving it, of course, you’d say that. Your mother was the sa way back then." Zhou Jian huffed cynically.

"Your mother back in the day wasn’t short of causing trouble." To the veterans in the factory, they rembered so past incidents.

"Being Qiao Lili’s daughter, I should have known you’re not so goody-two-shoes either, always leading boys on; if it weren’t for your father being a college graduate and an engineer, whose marriage brought a two-bedroom apartnt, your mom might not have even married your dad." Zhou Jian brought up old tales for everyone to hear.
