Wang Yan carefully carried her things away, just not wanting the Wang Family to find out.

Just as she expected, the Wang Family were sleeping deeply, and they had closed the bedroom door to prevent Wang Yan from entering, so they wouldn’t hear the door closing.

The Wang Family didn’t notice her departure, but so neighbors did, because the Wang Family lived in a Tube-shaped Building. When soone got up at night, they saw soone carrying large bags downstairs. They were about to shout in surprise, but upon seeing it was Wang Yan, they didn’t speak and went back to their own business.

Even though they didn’t ask, they knew Wang Yan was probably carrying the rice she had brought back.

Since Wang Yan had brought back a hundred jin of new rice, the Wang Family’s couple acted arrogantly, provoking a wave of animosity.

Now it’s good, for the way they treated Wang Yan poorly, the little girl must be angry now.

After the neighbor returned ho and lay tossing and turning in bed, they couldn’t resist and told their wife what they had discovered.

The wife was shocked and quickly replied, "It’s normal. If it were , I would do the sa."

"Clearly she brought back so much rice, the Wang Family couple’s tails were raised high, but they’re still stingy with Wang Yan. In such cold weather, they didn’t let her sleep on a bed, but on the floor with just a broken quilt underneath."

"They make her do all the housework, it’s really biased."

All the neighbors could see how the Wang Family treated Wang Yan. Whenever the Wang Family made a fuss, no one stood up for her, not only because the Wang Family couple were difficult to deal with.

But also because Wang Yan couldn’t stand on her own. Previously, people were willing to lend a hand, but instead, she accused them of sowing discord. After such an incident, who would be willing to help again?

"Why is Wang Yan taking out the rice? Is she going to sell it?" The wife suddenly sat up, "If that’s the case..."

The husband slapped his forehead, "Yeah, I must be silly."

"So, how much should we buy?"

The woman thought for a mont, gritted her teeth, "Let’s buy twenty jin, after all, it’s almost New Year’s, and we deserve to eat well after working hard all year."

The fragrance of rice cooking from the Wang Family’s ho these days, everyone’s well aware. Previously, they didn’t ask because they knew the Wang Family wouldn’t agree, so they saved themselves the trouble.

The man thought about it, quickly got dressed, and took money, a rice sack, and a scale, rushing out.

He hadn’t gone down the stairs for long when he saw another neighbor from upstairs holding the sa things.

They exchanged glances, imdiately understanding they were on the sa path, and without speaking, they quickly rushed after Wang Yan.

Luckily, Wang Yan carrying over seventy jin of rice, alongside being hungry, was walking slowly. Hearing footsteps approaching from behind startled her, fearing she would be discovered.

Worried about being found out, she had disguised her departure, like stuffing things in her bed to make others think she was still there.

She couldn’t just leave the rice behind, and couldn’t return to the farm; she really had no money now.

Before she could act, two neighbors dashed forward, "Are you selling your rice?"

Wang Yan felt relieved hearing this. They were here to buy rice, "Yes, eight mao per jin."

"Don’t try to bargain with , I know the black market prices." Seeing they wanted to haggle, Wang Yan imdiately stated this was the lowest price, refusing to negotiate.

"Besides, can the rice you buy on the black market be as good as mine?"

The two neighbors thought this over and agreed; rice on the black market would cost about the sa, "Deal."

One bought ten jin, the other bought twenty jin.

Wang Yan gave them a little more rice, "Don’t tell my family."

They nodded, "Don’t worry, we won’t."

They weren’t foolish; if the Wang Family found out they bought rice from Wang Yan, who knows how they’d cause trouble, demanding the rice back.

It sounds unreliable, but that’s just how the Wang Family behaves.

Wang Yan put the 24 yuan into her deepest pocket, then carried the remaining goods and headed to the black market.

Although it was a false alarm, at least it was a good start. She really didn’t want to sell to them, as prices in the black market would be higher.

But now she was hungry, and if she took things to the market, she didn’t know if she could hold out; besides, she worried if she didn’t agree to sell, they might report back to her family.

Wang Yan trudged carrying her stuff to the black market, paid the fees, and entered the market to find a spot to sell the rice.

But first, she spent money to buy so bread, she couldn’t help it having skipped two als, her stomach protesting constantly.

Wang Yan barely put the rice down when people quickly gathered around, one grabbed a handful of rice and slled it, "Farm rice."

Wang Yan didn’t expect them to recognize the origin of the rice just by slling it, she nodded, "This year’s new rice."

"One yuan per jin." The person was very straightforward, "I’ll take it all."

Wang Yan was overjoyed inside, knowing that the high quality of the rice ant it wouldn’t be hard to sell; she just didn’t expect the market would be so good.

Wang Yan regretted asking only eight mao before and selling thirty jin, but the rice had been sold, the remaining rice couldn’t be sold at a low price.

"You know the quality of farm rice..." Wang Yan rambled on.

The person clearly heard Wang Yan’s intent to raise the price, snorted, "I’ll go see for myself, is rice going for one yuan cheap?"

"I’m taking it all." The person insisted on refusing to raise the price.

Wang Yan stopped speaking; since she had the rice, she wasn’t worried about not selling it, worse cos to worst, it would sell for one yuan per jin eventually.

Seeing Wang Yan unwilling to accept the price, the person left quickly, there were many buyers now, better to be quick and decisive, plus it was near year-end, the committee would act a few tis, unknown when they’d strike.

Frequent black market visitors knew this, so they acted swiftly.

Wang Yan didn’t know; she thought she should sell slowly since her things were good, and with the train tickets not available until morning, even if she went to the station now, there were no trains.

Unexpectedly, many people asked about the price in the following ti; hearing the rice was one yuan fifty per jin, few bought it, though admitted it was good rice, it couldn’t stand up to the high price.

Wang Yan watched nearby vendors gradually leaving, feeling upset; her things were clearly so good, yet no one bought them.

Just as she was mumbling her dissatisfaction, "The committee is here."

"The committee is here."

Upon hearing this, everyone, buyers and sellers alike, scattered quickly; if they were caught, it was no joke.

For Wang Yan, her first reaction was confusion, the second was, of course, to run as fast as possible; she couldn’t be caught, or once reported to her family, she’d be dood.
