Zhang Yu and her husband were busy getting their driver’s licenses, completely unaware of the big event happening at ho.
Seeing the flustered Wei He, Zhang Yu was stunned, "What, did you say Wei Ming resigned?"
"Did he switch to a new job?" Zhang Yu thought for a mont, wondering if Wei He was overreacting.
"Impossible, I heard him ntion before that he was about to be promoted. How could soone about to be promoted resign?" Wei He denied that Wei Ming would quit his job.
That’s right, why would soone about to be promoted quit? "There must be a better job opportunity."
"I went to the place they were renting; the landlord said they moved out, and left a lot of the stuff they bought,"
"I went to his girlfriend’s workplace, and she also resigned."
"Then I went to his girlfriend’s house, and her brother and sister-in-law told they went to work in another city." Wei He couldn’t believe Wei Ming would leave in a huff like that.
"They went to another city without telling you?" Zhang Yu was incredulous. Wei Ming always inford the family about substantial decisions, especially one this significant.
"No, really, they didn’t." Wei He never expected Wei Ming to leave without notifying them.
Zhang Yu was puzzled too. In their previous lives, they all completed their education in the Capital City, and after working there, they got married and had children. None of them ever went to another city to develop; how did it change this ti?
"You really didn’t catch a whisper?" Zhang Yu looked at Wei He skeptically. She had a hunch that the reason their child went to another city was sohow related to Wei He.
Wei He shook his head, "I truly don’t know."
Fine, since they’re unwilling to talk, why bother insisting? "In that case, why don’t you find out more since you ntioned Xiao Ming’s girlfriend’s family knows they moved elsewhere, keep asking around."
Wei He was in a foul mood. After returning ho, he argued with Li Juan again. Wei Jiang overheard it all when he visited the old couple and relayed everything.
Zhang Yu was truly shocked, "Did she really say that Wei Ming’s girlfriend isn’t virtuous?"
"Yes, indeed." Wei Jiang found it amusing, "Mom, you’ve t Wei Ming’s girlfriend; she’s really quite nice."
"Yet, Li Juan insists she’s not virtuous, a materialistic girl who loves vanity." After witnessing Li Juan’s spending habits, Wei Jiang’s only requirent for a daughter-in-law was that she shouldn’t be like Li Juan.
"When Xiao Ming was getting married, we planned to buy him a house, but Li Juan wasn’t happy, saying if we bought them a house, where would she live."
"She also ntioned they wanted to buy a three-bedroom house: one bedroom for them, one as a study room for the third son, and another as a dressing room, just like in European and Arican movies." Wei Jiang recalled Li Juan’s words, utterly speechless.
Zhang Yu thought she had reached a new low in her understanding of Li Juan, but it seed there was always more, "I just want to know, what about that girl Xiao Lan?"
"Li Juan said, eventually, she’d get married anyway." Wei Jiang considered himself fairly devoted to his son, but he wasn’t that biased against his daughter either.
Zhang Yu was truly at a loss for words. Even the original host wasn’t this ruthless towards Wei Xuan, "Was the third son present? What did he say?"
"No response." Wei Jiang found it amusing.
Zhang Yu recalled the previous life, where both Wei Ming and Wei Lan had an excellent relationship with their parents. They were obedient children, who could have imagined that Li Juan would pull such stunts in this life?
Wei Ming was so upset that he left the Capital City to develop further south, essentially intending to settle down and start a family there.
As for Wei Lan, she wasn’t even included in the plans for the new house; that girl was thoughtful and must have her own opinions.
Wei Dazhi snorted coldly from the side, "He’ll regret it in the future."
"Forget it; he’s the one who married her. Whatever happens, it’s his burden to bear." Zhang Yu couldn’t care less.
Wei Jiang repaired a few things, then went shopping for so heavy items, returning with a large bag full of food and drinks.
Feng Xia saw Wei Jiang return cheerfully and then noticed the bag in his hand, "Had a good haul today."
"Yes, a great harvest. The old couple got so excellent fruits; give them a call to co over," Wei Jiang asked Feng Xia to call their two children to co and pick up the items.
"By the way, take so ti to visit Mom and Dad too." Wei Jiang was convinced now that frequent visits, helping them out, would yield tangible benefits now, regardless of future considerations.
Feng Xia took out the items from the bag, seeing the visually appealing fruits and steak, especially the price tags on them, she couldn’t help but shudder.
"They really know how to eat." Just one steak was enough to cover a week’s worth of vegetable money for her.
"Exactly. Haven’t you noticed how much rent the old man has to pay every month?"
"Money, to them, is just a number."
"You wouldn’t believe it; they plan to get their driver’s licenses." Wei Jiang thought about the news he just received, finding it astonishing.
What? Feng Xia was equally stunned, looking at Wei Jiang in disbelief, "You’re not joking, are you?"
"Why would I lie? They said they’re still young and intend to get their licenses so they can drive out and enjoy themselves." Wei Jiang truly admired the old couple, "I never even thought of that."
Buying a car just for recreation, Feng Xia couldn’t stop swallowing hard. Even though their son and daughter were doing well at their jobs and earning decent incos, they hadn’t bought a car yet.
"So, they’re the first in our family to buy a car." Feng Xia took a deep breath, utterly shocked. "By the way, do you know what car they bought?"
"A van, a Wuling. They said it’s durable, and even in a crash, it’s nothing to worry about, perfect for new drivers like them." Wei Jiang was particularly envious of Zhang Yu’s plans to travel.
Was Feng Xia envious? Of course, she was, yet before indulging in envy, "They have many houses under their nas."
"But they’ve never given us even one. We’re living here having to pay rent." Feng Xia felt resentful just thinking about it.
Of course, Wei Jiang initially felt disgruntled too, knowing the old couple was not short on cash, so why make them pay rent. But now he understood, "In the past, they did so much for us, and we never appreciated it."
"We took everything for granted and complained constantly, which is why Mom and Dad turned out this way."
"It’s great; we’re only paying fifty in rent each month now, look at the rents around us."
"The two-bedroom apartnt we bought could be rented for three or four hundred; I’ve decided, once we save up a bit more, we’ll buy a studio apartnt near our son’s place."
When buying a house earlier, considering financial constraints, they didn’t buy near Wei Chi’s wedding house, now he really regretted it.
"We should have heeded Mom’s advice and bought an apartnt in a good school district back then." Though the property they bought appreciated in value, it couldn’t compare to the rapid increase in their son’s neighborhood.
