Chapter 922: Chapter 923 Toxic Fatherly Love 55

Feng Min hurriedly walked out, only to run into Zhang Yu and her group at the store entrance.

Seeing the large shopping bags in their hands, with recognizable logos on them, even without knowing what they bought, it was clear they had spent quite a bit of money.

Her face instantly turned pale—dreaded thoughts raced through her mind—how long had Zhang Yu’s group been standing there, listening to her troubles and watching her embarrassnt?

“Does seeing down and out make you happy?” Feng Min snarled as she stared at Zhang Yu’s group.

Everyone knew Feng Min’s life wasn’t easy—when life doesn’t treat you well, aging cos fast.

But what shocked Zhang Yu was seeing just how much she had aged—it was truly startling.

Back in the day, Feng Min used to be an elegant middle-aged woman, but now? She seed like a worn-out middle-aged housewife, soone who neither had the ti nor the money to care for herself.

Zhang Yu, being a straightforward person, nodded firmly. “Yes, seeing you’re doing poorly definitely makes happy.”

“But are you sure this is the most desperate mont of your life?”

“How long has it been since you last spoke to Wu Hao? Do you even know what’s going on with him?”

“And about your two kids—do you know their thoughts?”

“Do you really understand what’s in their hearts?” Earlier, while they were shopping, they saw Wu Jian hanging out at the mall with so classmates—he was even walking arm-in-arm with a girl.

One thing was certain—this kid was already engaging in early romance. Whether Wu Hao and his wife knew this or not was another matter. If they discovered their beloved, carefully-raised son was secretly dating, they would surely be furious.

Thinking back to the things she had previously disclosed to Wu Hao, Zhang Yu figured it was better to let them discover this for themselves—otherwise, it might just break them.

So things are best left to people to uncover on their own, aren’t they? If Zhang Yu guessed correctly, Wu Jian and his classmates should still be roaming around this mall.

A large mall, though—what were the chances of bumping into them? It seed unlikely.

Zhang Yu whispered to herself and glanced down over the railing, scanning below. She didn’t spot anyone familiar.

Apparently, her “lucky mouth” wasn’t working today—otherwise, Feng Min walking down there would’ve led to her running into Wu Jian, then discovering her son’s budding romance.

Since this scene wasn’t playing out, Zhang Yu decided there was no reason to hang around and planned to head ho.

Before their encounter with Feng Min, Zhang Yu and the others had already been nearly done with their shopping and were ready to leave.

She hadn’t expected to witness Feng Min losing her temper at her younger brother. And from the look of it, Feng Min’s brother’s family of three had just walked out from one of the counters, angrily cursing Feng Min, calling her all sorts of nas.

Li Cuifen, walking away from the commotion, remarked, “Doesn’t this look like karma coming back around?”

“Back then, Feng Min stord into our house in rage, accusing us of stealing her property.” Knowing a bit about Feng Min’s story, Li Cuifen felt a little better inside.

Zhang Yu wasn’t aware of all this. “Don’t tell she thought the old house and the shop belonged to Wu Hao?”

It wasn’t entirely impossible, Zhang Yu considered. “Wu Hao’s pride probably made him pull sothing like that.”

“And technically, he wasn’t wrong. If he hadn’t done those unforgivable things, the house really would have been his.”

“But, wow, he was way too impatient for his own good.”

“As for Feng Min, if she doesn’t learn so humility soon, her life will only get harder as ti goes on.”

Zhang Yu was about to take the elevator down to the underground parking lot when a thought struck her. “Wait, I’m out of lipstick.” On days when she wasn’t at school, Wang Lei always put on a bit of lipstick—to add that touch of vibrancy and make herself look spirited.

“Also, Little Yu’s face masks are used up,” Li Cuifen insisted Zhang Yu restock her skincare items. “You two are friends, after all.”

“Look at Wang Lei—such a ticulous young girl. Why is it that when it cos to you, you stop caring?” Back in school, it might’ve been fine to skip grooming.

But now, as a recent college graduate—and in the pri, most beautiful years of her life—she should definitely spend so ti sprucing herself up.

“I’m pretty ticulous too!” Zhang Yu wanted to cry. For big occasions, she always took the ti to present herself well.

“Grandma, don’t worry. I know what you an. I’ll definitely get married early.” Zhang Yu understood exactly what Li Cuifen wanted to say.

“I promise, I’ll marry early and have kids early.” Ever since graduating college, Li Cuifen often wore an expression as though she wanted to say sothing but would always claim it was nothing when asked.

After so many occurrences, Zhang Yu figured her grandmother’s lingering concerns were tied to this matter.

Bringing up the topic so suddenly caught Li Cuifen off guard—she flinched before awkwardly responding, “I wasn’t trying to rush you.”

Worried about upsetting her granddaughter, the elderly woman recalled how neighborhood conversations often involved young people complaining about being pressured by their families to marry.

“I wasn’t rushing you. But, listen, marriage is inevitable. If you marry early, you can start a family and restore your independence earlier.”

“Grandma, I’ve already picked soone out.” Over the past four years, Zhang Yu had steadily narrowed down her choice for a prospective partner.

Seriously? Li Cuifen had assud Zhang Yu was just saying this to appease her, but unexpectedly, there was already a candidate.

What?! Wang Lei was even more shocked—her jaw dropped. “Little Yu, are you kidding ?”

“How do you already have soone in mind?”

“Why don’t I know about this?” They were supposed to be best friends, weren’t they? How could she not know anything about this?

“Well, I’m not sure yet—it’s just my own thoughts for now,” Zhang Yu admitted. Sure, she had a target in mind, but whether he was willing was another matter.

“Are you sure he’ll say yes?” While Wang Lei had always been confident in her friend, she couldn’t muster any certainty for this situation.

Li Cuifen shared Wang Lei’s apprehension. She had assud her granddaughter was already in a steady relationship, hence bringing up marriage. But to learn it wasn’t even a confird match—this left the old woman unsettled.

“Are you sure he likes you?” The grandmother worried Zhang Yu might chose to marry hastily simply to make her happy.

“Little Yu, you need to seriously think this through. There’s no need to make rash decisions just for my sake.”

Wang Lei nodded repeatedly. “She’s right, exactly right.”

Watching the two of them fret, Zhang Yu couldn’t help but laugh. “Do you really think I’m the type to casually marry off my own future?”

Li Cuifen didn’t respond, but her expression certainly conveyed agreent.

“Relax, alright? Frankly, if no one helps him out, marriage might not even be an option for him in this lifeti.”

“That’s why I believe bringing this up to him won’t be a problem.”

“Trust , when I say I’m going to get married, I an I’ll absolutely see it through.” Zhang Yu brimd with confidence.

The trio exchanged glances, but the more Zhang Yu talked, the more unsettled they felt within.

“Does he just want you for your money?” Although outsiders might not know Zhang Yu’s inco, the re fact that her grandmother owned property would be enough to delight prospective suitors.

Li Cuifen’s worries flared up again—marrying for money only made it easier for a man’s affections to fade.

“He’s not interested in that—his top priority is research,” Zhang Yu admitted. “Honestly, I like guys who are passionate workaholics.”
