Chapter 925: Chapter 926 Toxic Fatherly Love 58

Li Cuifen is a woman of action. As soon as she got ho, she went straight to Old Lady Feng’s house and pulled her aside for a detailed analysis.

Before long, the old lady returned with a satisfied smile, “Okay, everything’s settled.”

That was quick! Zhang Yu was curious about how Li Cuifen managed to negotiate with her.

“Simple, I just told the truth. She already knew a bit about our family situation, so I told her I’m worried about finding a man who isn’t trustworthy, who might turn out like your dad.”

“She’s worried too. Her grandson spends all day focused on research and might end up alone and lonely forever.”

“I said that when you two get married, you should quickly have kids—two of them. One could take the father’s surna, the other the mother’s. She agreed right away.”

“Old Feng is a bit of a busybody. Right in front of , she made a phone call to Xiao Feng, rambled on and on, and just like that, the matter was settled.”

“Knowing that our family is about to go on a trip, and Xiao Feng’s experints have just reached a temporary pause, you two are perfectly set to et tonight.”

“We won’t interfere in this. Anyway, you’ve already seen him before.” Li Cuifen didn’t dare expect Xiao Feng to still rember Zhang Yu.

What? eting tonight? Fine, Zhang Yu could only resign herself to the tiless truth: matchmaking never goes out of style.

And so Zhang Yu drove to the agreed-upon location. She planned to arrive ten minutes early, expecting to be the first one there, but unexpectedly, the other party had already arrived.

Having seen him before, Zhang Yu walked straight over. “Hello.”

Just as she was about to introduce herself, “I know you. You’re Grandma Li’s granddaughter, Zhang Yu.”

Feng Ji stood up and extended his hand. “Please, have a seat.”

Wow, he even rembers her. Zhang Yu felt a little moved. “Well, let’s order so food first and chat while we eat.”

Feng Ji let out a small sigh of relief. “Alright.”

As they ate, Feng Ji looked up at Zhang Yu several tis. “I’ve never considered marriage before. Even if I do marry you, my priority will always be family.”

“I have no idea what my grandmother said to you.” Feng Ji suspected this was yet another sche of Old Lady Feng.

Ever since he returned from studying abroad, the old lady had been particularly enthusiastic about introducing him to potential matches. It was only in the past couple of years, seeing that he had no interest in personal matters, that the matchmaking had stopped.

Despite Feng Ji’s blunt remarks, Zhang Yu wasn’t fazed at all. She continued to smile warmly. “Actually, I was the one who brought it up.”

Feng Ji paused mid-motion while picking up so food.

“It’s true.” Since they’d have to walk through life hand-in-hand, Zhang Yu didn’t want to hide anything from him. “You know our family situation too.”

Feng Ji hesitated for a mont before nodding. “Yes, I do.”

“I also promised my grandmother that I would definitely get married. So ever since I started college, I’ve been considering who I should marry.”

“After eting you and learning about your circumstances, I began to think seriously about it.”

“You’re good-looking and smart. I’m not too bad either—not overly dull, and my looks are passable—so our kids at least wouldn’t turn out badly.”

“Plus, your family has excellent manners.”

“Also, you have fewer relatives, which ans fewer complications.”

“You work in scientific research, so the likelihood of you cheating is relatively low.”

“And you’re a responsible person.”

Even if this made Feng Ji think she was calculating, Zhang Yu didn’t mind.

Children raised in families like hers—how many of them could remain naive? Even if soone started out naive, reality would have taught them otherwise long ago.

“What do you think?” Zhang Yu looked at Feng Ji expectantly. “As long as you don’t wrong , I’ll take care of your grandmother.”

“Of course, we’ll hire a caretaker. I’ll just keep an eye on things and chat with the elderly.”

“You know I often take my grandmother and her caretaker out with .”

Adding two more people wouldn’t be a problem. Zhang Yu was very confident—after all, they wouldn’t be sleeping in the car. Once they reached destinations, they stayed in hotels.

Suddenly, Zhang Yu rembered sothing. “I only know you work in scientific research. Does your field forbid family mbers from traveling abroad?”

Ah, she couldn’t believe she forgot such an important detail. If traveling abroad was off the table, what would happen to her blog posts?

Ah, ah, ah—since this idea was her own initiative, she couldn’t very well say she regretted it or that she didn’t want to marry Feng Ji.

“I work in pharmaceutical research, not on any classified projects. Although there are so restrictions, it doesn’t impact whether your family can travel abroad.” Feng Ji watched Zhang Yu’s expression shift multiple tis, clearly amused.

Hearing Feng Ji’s answer, Zhang Yu let out a sigh of relief. “Good. That’s good.”

Seeing Zhang Yu’s visible relief, Feng Ji felt compelled to ask, “What would you have done if there were restrictions?”

If that were the case, Zhang Yu didn’t hesitate. “Then I’d treat this like a neighborly dinner, go ho afterward, and say that after careful consideration, we’re not compatible.”

Smart as she was, how could she not have thought about how to smooth things over? “Earlier, I considered what I’d say if you rejected my proposal.”

“Now that this issue doesn’t exist, do you think we can move forward?” Zhang Yu wasn’t one for beating around the bush; she directly addressed the most important question.

“You’ve thought everything through. I’m on board.” Feng Ji had already mulled over the matter after receiving his grandmother’s call.

To him, having watched his parents’ tumultuous and obsessive romance, he didn’t have high hopes for love and marriage.

If he had to describe his feelings, it was more like disdain. If possible, he’d prefer to stay far away from it.

“After we marry, I’ll handle the household expenses. My salary card will be yours.” Feng Ji listed his earnings and bonuses.

Zhang Yu knew Feng Ji’s salary was decent. Otherwise, Grandma Feng wouldn’t be living so comfortably—eating, drinking, and even going on outings regularly.

Only now did she find out that Feng Ji’s annual inco was impressive. Earning fifty thousand a year was already considered great, but this man was making over a million!

“How much do you need every month?” Zhang Yu asked casually.

“Nothing. I have money. I also earn inco from patents.”

“And that’s even more.”

“As for the marital ho, you can check it out and let know the cost.”

“Grandma said we need two kids, plus separate bedrooms for both of us, a study for each, two rooms for Grandma, a dressing room, and a room for the caretaker.”

Feng Ji did a quick calculation in his head. “I figure the minimum we’ll need is a large single-floor unit.”

“Isn’t there a newly launched housing complex nearby?” Feng Ji wasn’t sure of the na and ntioned it vaguely.

“That complex is expensive.” Zhang Yu had looked into it, only to dismiss it as unaffordable.

She hadn’t seriously considered it. After all, the hos in that community emphasized spacious layouts—the smallest units started at 300 square ters.

But this man took aim at those hos directly. “Shall I buy there?”

“Probably several hundred square ters.” Zhang Yu spoke cautiously. Initially, she just wanted to find a father for her kids.

But she hadn’t expected to land herself such a premium stock investnt. Oh my god, Zhang Yu thought, she really needed a mont to calm down.

“There’s no budget. Pick what you like.”

“As for the renovation, you can decide everything, but for my bedroom, dressing room, and study, I’ll provide the designs.”

With such a request, Zhang Yu had no objections and agreed imdiately.
