The second son saw that Mr. Gu was unwilling to discuss this matter, and felt even more that it might be related to Gu Chengyu.

"Sir! My father’s death is so baffling. As the eldest son, I must clarify the cause of my father’s death."

The second son looked gloomy and doubtful, which made Mr. Gu’s face even more displeased.

Gu Chengyu walked over from behind the others and saw the second son looking indignant, the third son silent, and Mr. Gu sullen. He quickly stepped forward.

"It’s understandable that you have doubts about your father’s death. Today, when we found your father deceased, only Mrs. Li and Mrs. Wang were present, and Mrs. Wang was the first to discover him. If you have questions, go ask them yourself. We haven’t stopped you, have we?"

The second and third sons felt a bit uneasy when Gu Chengyu approached.

"However, now there are guests arriving one after another. If you make a scene, it will only disgrace the Gu Family. I’ve already announced that your father died suddenly. If word gets out that he died from taking dicine, what good does that do you? Besides, the second son is still studying. Do you really want to discuss this matter openly here?"

Gu Chengyu glanced at the third son, who might still have so filial piety towards his father and wanted to find out the truth.

Of course, it also couldn’t be ruled out that the third son had so personal motives, but that’s only human nature.

No one is perfect. Faced with absolute benefits, it would be a lie not to be tempted. Even if one isn’t tempted at the ti, it simply ans the temptation wasn’t enough.

However, he felt there was very little sincerity in the second son, surely he harbored so ulterior motives.

When the second son heard this, although he felt there was so truth to it, he thought that if there were more people, involving Gu Chengyu might increase the chances of Gu Chengyu agreeing to his demands.

But this matter shouldn’t be blown out of proportion, so he was torn internally.

The third son pulled on the second son’s sleeve and said, "Second brother! Let’s find a place where no one is around to ask them later!"

The third son was afraid his second brother would cause a scene. Their father had died, and he didn’t see his second brother grieving much.

Could the second brother really want to seek justice for their father? Most likely, he wanted to benefit himself.

Although the second son was reluctant, he also knew that if he caused a scene now, it wouldn’t do anyone any good.

Besides, if it really had sothing to do with Gu Chengyu, he could threaten Gu Chengyu later.

Seeing his second brother nod in agreent, the third son breathed a sigh of relief. If their father’s reputation was tarnished, it would greatly affect his own future marriage prospects.

Moreover, their little uncle was thriving in the Gu Family. Why go against him? Only by getting along well with him could they have good days ahead.

Unfortunately, their father and second brother never seed to understand this logic.

However, the third son suddenly rembered what Gu Chengyu said about Mrs. Wang earlier, and who was this?

"Little uncle, who is this Mrs. Wang?" The third son looked at Gu Chengyu with confusion, wondering where this Mrs. Wang ca from.

Gu Chengyu was at a loss on how to introduce her. Neither a concubine nor married, not a servant, and couldn’t be considered as a concubine either.

After so thought, he delegated the task of explaining to Ming Mo standing behind him.

"Ming Mo! Explain to the third young master." Then, Gu Chengyu turned and walked towards the mourning hall.

The mourning hall was set up in the outer courtyard’s main hall, and when Gu Chengyu arrived, he happened to see Chang crying and fussing.

A little child has no patience to kneel for so long. Moreover, with these white mourning banners hanging around and people coming to offer condolences, wailing as they approached, it’s understandable that such a small child would be scared.

"Chang, be good, don’t be afraid! Mother is here!" Wang Yue felt heartbroken seeing Chang kneeling for so long, but this was the custom.

Wang Yue could only soothe her son, holding him close to her to make him feel a bit better.

"Mother! Chang’s legs hurt!" Chang looked sowhat listless, but thankfully was obedient enough.

He had been fussing earlier, but now, seeing his mother unmoved, could only kneel quietly.

Wang Yue was truly overwheld with heartache, her eyes brimming with tears, feeling helpless at her young son having to endure such hardship.

Gu Chengyu also found it remarkable that Chang had endured this long.

It was almost July, and the sun was setting in the west, but the heat had not diminished at all. At this mont, Chang’s forehead was covered in sweat.

The weather was too hot, and the Gu Family had no ice. The restaurant did, but it was difficult to transport it here.

Besides, Gu Chengyi was not old, and his death was not respectable.

Gu Chengyu suggested to confine the body for just three days to spare the living from suffering.

After discussing with Mr. Gu and the others, they decided on a three-day funeral.

Gu Xi had originally co with her two children and Wang Quanshou to attend; in the afternoon, she planned to resu her tofu business, so she left early.

She was caught up by family on the way and brought back to her mother’s ho, where she was now kneeling in the mourning hall, wiping away tears.

"Second brother, how could you leave us so soon?"

Gu Xi felt differently about her full-blood brother. With their father working in the Prefecture, she and her elder and second brothers had always relied on one another.

She never thought her second brother would leave so soon, it was too unexpected.

As night fell, the noise of the day faded, leaving the Gu Family in silence.

"Aunt Li, Aunt Wang, the old master wants you to co over to discuss sothing." Ming Mo entered the mourning hall, addressing the three kneeling in front of the altar.

Chang had fallen asleep leaning against Wang Yue, while Mrs. Li and Wang Yue remained alert.

From the mont the second and third sons entered the main hall, they knew this would happen.

Wang Yue, holding Chang, tried to get up but stumbled because of kneeling too long, causing her legs to go numb.

Mrs. Li attempted to take Chang from her arms, but was hastily pushed away by the wary Wang Yue.

How could she let Mrs. Li near Chang? She always felt sothing was off about Mrs. Li’s deanor.

Ming Mo, seeing this, stepped forward to take Chang in his arms, and after Wang Yue hesitated, she did not object.

The main hall was crowded, even Gu Chenglian and Gu Chengchi were there, but the Gu family’s daughters-in-law had been sent to another room.

These people remained silent, only the second son was scrutinizing the trembling Mrs. Wang.

Mrs. Wang had already recounted the events earlier, both Mrs. Li and Wang Yue were summoned by the second son.

The second son gave Mrs. Wang a once-over, feeling that their father really liked robbing the cradle.

This Mrs. Wang looked about fifteen or sixteen, pretty-faced, graceful, with a pitiful deanor that tugged at one’s heart.

Not only was she a young maiden, but she was also quite beautiful.

Feeling the second son’s gaze, Mrs. Wang grew anxious.

She glanced at him cautiously, and upon seeing the hidden admiration in his eyes, she was montarily stunned, then her gaze clung onto him.

"Ah! I sprained my ankle."

Mrs. Li, walking at the rear, suddenly twisted her ankle and fell to the ground.

Wang Yue and Ming Mo turned to look, Ming Mo frowned.
