Ningyan slapped a hand against his chest, forcing himself through the pain as he rose slowly to his feet.

His eyes burned with blue flas.

Across from him, Mu Yi stared in shock.

His lips parted slightly as he felt the pressure radiating from Ningyan’s body.

It felt ancient... colder. And the look Ningyan gave him was pure murder.

Mu Yi tried to steady himself, tightening his grip on his sword.

But Ningyan’s presence crushed down on the area like a storm. Waves of power rolled across the lower district of Water City, even spilling faintly into the upper district.

Then, Ningyan vanished.

In the next instant he appeared directly in front of Mu Yi.

So close that Mu Yi’s eyes widened in shock.

For a mont he froze. "You... are you a divine—"

He never finished.

Ningyan had already snatched the sword from his hand without him noticing.

The blade plunged straight into Mu Yi’s chest. Right through his heart.

"You ca here and slaughtered innocent beasts for amusent," Ningyan said coldly. "With as the catalyst."

He pulled the blade free. "How unfortunate."

With one swift motion, he swung the sword again.

Mu Yi’s head fell to the ground.

Ningyan looked down at the weapon in his hand.

The red corruption had already crept up his arm.

But it wasn’t consuming him.

If anything... It felt like the energy was feeding his strength.

Suddenly the pain in his chest returned. Sharp and crushing.

Ningyan gasped and dropped the sword.

He fell backward onto the bloodstained ground, surrounded by bodies.

The blue glow around him flickered and slowly faded until it vanished completely.

Now there was only Ningyan lying beneath the night sky.

His hand pressed against his chest as he stared upward.

The sky above him was clear, filled with countless bright stars.

He stayed like that for a long mont, breathing heavily until the pain finally began to fade.

Once the worst of it passed, he slowly pushed himself into a sitting position, pressing his hand harder against his chest.

"What is happening to ...?" His voice was barely a whisper. "It feels like there’s sothing inside ."

"Mama? I’m scared..." A child’s trembling voice suddenly broke the silence.

"Oh my child!" A wail of grief followed.

"No... this can’t be happening!"

"They’re all dead!"

"Uncle!"

"Mama!"

"Papa!"

Cries of shock and sorrow began echoing through the district.

Ningyan slowly stood.

Survivors were erging now. Those who had managed to hide from Mu Yi’s massacre.

They stumbled into the ruined streets, falling beside the bodies of their loved ones.

So scread. So cried.

So simply collapsed in silence.

Ningyan stood among them.

He didn’t know what to say. He didn’t know what to do.

This had happened because of him.

Ningyan stared at Mu Yi’s severed head lying on the ground with clear distaste.

Then he bent down and tried to pick up the sword.

The mont his fingers touched the blade, red corruption imdiately crawled across his hand.

He flinched and dropped it.

"Yan Yan?" A curious voice suddenly called out.

"Yan Yan killed the beast."

"He saved us."

"He’s a phoenix."

"Why is this happening to us?"

"Did we anger the Water Beast God?"

The voices kept coming.

Whispers. Questions. Stares.

Ningyan didn’t know how to face any of them.

His hands began to tremble.

Tears burned behind his eyes.

He stared down at the sword again.

He couldn’t touch it.

But he also couldn’t leave it behind where it might corrupt soone else.

A tear slipped down his cheek and landed on the steel of the pulsing blade.

For a mont nothing happened.

Then Ningyan slowly crouched.

He lifted his hand and waved it gently above the weapon.

White-gold light wrapped around the sword.

The blade rose from the ground, floating silently in the air.

Without saying a word, Ningyan turned and walked away.

The sword followed him.

He ignored the many eyes watching him as he left the ruined district behind.

Soon he reached the beach.

The ocean stretched endlessly before him, and the long bridge leading toward the upper districts of Water City stood nearby.

The wind coming from the sea was cold.

Unknown to Ningyan, everyone in the city had felt the power he released during the battle. The fierce waves of spiritual energy that had spread across the entire district.

But Ningyan didn’t feel victorious.

All he wanted... was to see Lan ishan.

At the entrance to the bridge stood Lan ishan.

Hai Miao leaned against him, clutching a small handful of lotus seeds.

The mont ishan saw Ningyan approaching with the sword floating behind him, he imdiately moved.

He didn’t even speak.

He simply ran forward and pulled Ningyan into a tight embrace.

Ningyan lted into his arms at once, saying nothing.

Lan ishan gently rubbed his back, comforting him.

But his eyes shifted toward the sword floating behind Ningyan.

The weapon was still wrapped in white-gold light.

ishan’s erald serpent eyes narrowed slightly in quiet alertness.

He had felt the terrifying waves of power from the battle.

Everyone nearby had.

But despite the destruction, one thought filled him with pride.

Ningyan had beco incredibly strong.

"Are you going to be alright?" Lan ishan finally broke the silence that had settled between them, accompanied only by the gentle rhythm of the waves.

Ningyan didn’t know how to answer that question.

At least not right away.

Strangely, he didn’t cry the way he thought he would. Being held like this already made him feel a little better.

After a long mont passed, he finally pulled back from the embrace and took a slow breath.

He looked into those erald eyes behind ishan’s glasses. The worried gaze of the divine beast prince.

"I will be."

Lan ishan nodded slowly.

Then he raised a hand toward the floating sword.

His essence wrapped around it instantly, swallowing the weapon before it vanished from sight.

Ningyan let out a heavy breath.

Only then did he turn to look at Hai Miao, who was standing nearby and watching them carefully, as if trying not to interrupt.

The boy had been through far too much tonight.

"I don’t think we can travel freely with a child," Ningyan said gently as he walked over and lifted Miao into his arms.

ishan watched them for a mont before speaking.

"He’s a serpent," he said thoughtfully. "Perhaps we could let him stay with Yishu as her disciple."

Ningyan nodded slowly. "I think that would be better."

Then he looked back at ishan.

"Do you trust this acquaintance of yours? This Yishu?"

Lan ishan answered imdiately. "No. Not really."

Ningyan blinked.

ishan continued calmly, looking between Ningyan and Hai Miao.

"We’ve known each other since childhood. But her work mostly revolves around gathering information here in Water City... and beyond."

His eyes darkened slightly. "She may have sold your whereabouts to the assassins while helping search for you. I don’t want to treat it as a conclusion yet... but it is a possibility."

Ningyan’s lips twitched faintly. "Then I suppose we should begin our journey."

He looked at ishan. "Shall we?"

Lan ishan smiled softly.

He reached out and brushed Ningyan’s cheek, wiping away the blood and dirt still staining his skin.

"Of course, my treasure. Of course."
