The mont Ting stepped outside, her pace quickened.

She moved swiftly through the night streets of the Phoenix Clan territory, weaving through crowds, past lantern-lit stalls and drunken laughter. Until she reached it. A pleasure house.

Music thundered through the air. Laughter. Moans. Shouted bets.

Bodies pressed together in a haze of heat and indulgence. Beastn and beastwon, half-dressed or completely bare, moving without restraint.

Ting swallowed. But she didn’t stop.

She pushed her way inside and climbed the stairs, ignoring the hands that brushed too close, the eyes that lingered too long.

Finally, she stopped in front of a curtained chamber.

A guard stood outside. His serpent eyes locked onto her instantly. Red veins pulsed faintly beneath his skin.

"You’re back," he said.

Ting’s throat tightened. "I... I need to see His Highness. I have sothing for him."

The guard studied her for a mont. Then pulled the curtain aside. "Go in."

Ting stepped inside. And froze.

The air was thick. Heavy with sweat, incense, and sex.

On the bed, Lan Shiyu. A fox beastwoman lay beneath him, her back arched, her voice breaking into soft cries as he drove into her without restraint.

Behind them, three other won danced, their bodies bare, movents slow and sensual under the dim lantern light.

Ting’s face burned. She forced herself to look away.

She cleared her throat. "Your Highness..."

Lan Shiyu paused and turned his head. "Oh."

A low chuckle slipped from his lips. "It’s you."

He pulled away from the woman beneath him without concern, stepping off the bed as if nothing had happened. His hazel, serpent-like eyes flickered then deepened into a faint red glow.

He pulled on his trousers loosely, his jade-toned torso catching the lantern light as he walked toward her. "What do you have for ?"

Ting swallowed. Her hands trembled as she reached into her robe and pulled out the flute.

He took it, turned it in his hand and frowned. "What is this?"

"A... a flute," she answered weakly.

Lan Shiyu’s expression darkened. His grip tightened.

"I know what it is," he snapped. His voice dropped, sharp and dangerous. "I’m asking why you brought it to ."

Ting’s breath hitched. Her entire body went rigid. "It belongs to Su Ningyan."

"And?" he pressed.

"I told him what you instructed to say," she rushed out. "That the entire clan manor was wiped out... and that it was done by a phoenix."

Lan Shiyu scoffed. His fingers tightened around the flute, knuckles paling as he dragged a hand through his hair.

Ting flinched.

Behind her, the won on the bed giggled softly, whispering among themselves. They were mocking her.

"And... what happened next?" Lan Shiyu’s voice cut through her thoughts, dragging her back to the present.

She imdiately lowered her head, bowing deeply to avoid his gaze. "He... he ca back with Jun Haoxuan."

Lan Shiyu’s eyes widened slightly. "...Jun Haoxuan?"

A quiet scoff slipped past his lips. "So it was him who wiped them out. Oh."

Ting swallowed hard, her entire body trembling. "...C-can I go now, Your Highness?"

For a split second, his expression softened like he was pitying her. Then his hand shot out, gripped her throat and slamd her violently against the nearest wall.

A sharp thud echoed.

The won behind them jolted in fear, their earlier mockery dying instantly as silence swallowed the room.

Ting’s breath shook. Her feet barely touched the ground.

"How dare you ask that?" Lan Shiyu’s voice dropped, heavy with fury. "I saved your life."

His grip tightened. "And you will continue doing my bidding."

Tears spilled down Ting’s face as she clawed weakly at his wrist. Her vision blurred. Her lungs burned.

The other night flashed through her mind.

The blood. Servants being slaughtered like pests. A hooded figure moving through the manor like death itself.

She had run. Desperate. Blind.... Terrified. And when she escaped, he had been there.

Lan Shiyu. Stepping out of a portal like a demon answering her prayers only to turn her into sothing worse than prey.

She had begged him, cried to him, clung to life. And he had given her a choice that wasn’t a choice.

Serve Or I Kill You Myself.

"Yes..." she choked out, her voice barely audible.

Lan Shiyu held her there for a mont longer. He was enjoying her fear.

"Good." he released her.

She collapsed to the floor, coughing violently as air rushed back into her lungs.

He didn’t look at her again. His attention had already shifted to the flute in his hand.

"My brother..." he muttered, running his fingers through his hair slowly. "...decided to marry a phoenix."

His grip tightened around the instrunt. "And those other fools are circling him too?"

A low, humorless chuckle escaped him. "What the hell is going on?"

Ting stayed on her knees, shaking. "What... what should I do, Your Highness?" she whispered.

Lan Shiyu finally looked at her again. This ti he looked calm. Too calm. "I need you to be smart."

He crouched slightly, bringing himself closer to her level. "Because if you aren’t..."

His voice dropped to a near whisper. "The divine beast princes won’t even leave enough of you to bury. Yan Wuhen will rip your heart out and eat it."

Ting froze.

"And Jun Haoxuan?" he continued softly. "He won’t kill you quickly. He’ll decide whether you’re worth killing at all."

Lan Shiyu straightened slowly. "My brother and Rong Yue, on the other hand.... don’t make mistakes."

Ting’s fingers trembled as he handed the flute back to her.. "Yes, your Highness."

"I intend to cause my brother unimaginable pain," Lan Shiyu said casually. "The kind he thinks he understands..."

His eyes darkened. "...but doesn’t."

Ting’s breath hitched.

"So..." he continued lightly, tilting his head, "You know what that ans."

Her lips trembled. "...No..."

His expression hardened. "Kill him. The phoenix."

Ting froze.

"In a simple way," he added calmly. "Poison is simple, isn’t it?"

"But... they’ll kill if they find out—" she stamred.

Shiyu’s eyes flashed. A vivid, terrifying red. "Who do you think you are to question ?!"

His voice rose now, anger cracking through. "Do you know how hard it has been since I took ishan’s position? Do you?"

He stepped closer again, looming over her. "Father ignores . He treats like a tool. A replacent. He wants his favorite son back."

A dangerous smile spread across his lips as he grabbed her shoulder harshly. "And I will give him that son but not before I make him suffer."

Ting shrank under him, sobbing. "I will! I will do it! I’m sorry! I won’t question you again!"

He stared at her like she was filth. Then released her.

"Good. You have one day." His voice turned cold. "Now get out of my sight."

Ting stumbled out of the room, her legs weak, her vision blurred with tears.

Behind her, laughter resud and moans filled the chamber again as if nothing had happened.

She stepped into the corridor, wiping her face quickly, forcing her expression to steady. The flute trembled in her hands before she shoved it into her robe.

"I have to do it..." she whispered to herself, her voice breaking. "I have to..."
