Screams echoed endlessly throughout the Deer Clan.

The once peaceful territory had beco a scene of pure slaughter.

Blood stained the streets crimson while burning flas consud buildings one after another. Deer beast warriors fell beneath the phoenix army rcilessly, their terrified cries swallowed by the roar of destruction spreading across the clan grounds.

At the center of it all, Su Ningyan stood silently.

Blood dripped from his hands.

The blackish-red mist surrounding his body slithered through the air like living darkness before slowly sinking back into him alongside the blood essence he had absorbed from the battlefield.

A strange wild, addictive exhilaration coursed through his veins.

"Ah... This feeling...." A dangerous smile slowly curled across Ningyan’s lips.

"Die! You abomination! Die!" A deer beast warrior charged toward him with a desperate roar.

Ningyan shifted effortlessly.

The attack missed completely.

Before the warrior could react, Ningyan’s hand shot forward and wrapped tightly around the man’s throat.

The deer beastman froze.

Fear flooded his eyes as he struggled weakly within Ningyan’s grip.

"Ha... have rcy... please.." The words ca out strangled and broken.

Ningyan stared at him calmly. His violet eyes had long since darkened into crimson-black.

"There is no rcy here."

Crack.

The man’s neck snapped.

Ningyan tossed the corpse aside carelessly before continuing forward through the carnage.

Ahead stood Xie Zhenting, overseeing the eradication with composed satisfaction.

The mont Ningyan approached, Zhenting smiled warmly. "How do you feel, Your Greatness?"

Ningyan glanced down at his bloodstained hands. "How am I supposed to feel?"

Xie Zhenting opened his mouth to respond. But before he could, a phoenix warrior descended from the skies.

She shifted back into her human form imdiately upon landing and respectfully presented a scroll to Ningyan. Not Xie Zhenting.

Zhenting’s eyes narrowed.

A warning look flashed across his face toward the warrior, clearly displeased she had handed it directly to Ningyan instead of him.

The phoenix woman lowered her head nervously and stepped back.

Ningyan, however, paid little attention to the exchange.

His gaze settled upon the scroll.

A fox sigil adorned the seal. The Vermilion Fox Clan.

One brow lifted before he opened it.

Inside was a formal invitation from the Beast Queen of the Vermilion Fox Clan requesting an audience with the Phoenix Beast King in hopes of discussing an alliance between their clans.

"Oh." Ningyan’s lips twitched faintly.

Xie Zhenting stepped closer. "What does it say, Your Greatness?"

"The Beast Queen of the Vermilion Fox Clan requests my presence."

The mont those words fell, Zhenting frowned deeply. "How dare she?"

Ningyan glanced at him. "Oh, it is no issue, Xie Zhenting."

His smile sharpened. "We shall go."

A dangerous glint flickered within his crimson-darkened eyes. "We can use the opportunity to determine how soon we should destroy them all."

Xie Zhenting still did not look pleased. That alone caught Ningyan’s attention.

He tilted his head. "Does this disturb you, Xie Zhenting?"

Imdiately, Zhenting shook his head. "No. Not at all, Your Greatness."

His expression softened instantly into obedience. "All your decisions are for the sake of our kin. I support them completely."

Ningyan smiled faintly at the response. "Well said."

Then he turned away. "Let us finish matters here."

As Ningyan walked past him, Xie Zhenting’s hands slowly clenched into fists behind his sleeves.

His jaw tightened.

Irritation flickered briefly across his face before disappearing just as quickly.

Nearby, General He Yuting observed the exchange silently.

Her eyes t Zhenting’s for a brief mont.

Zhenting looked away and calmly followed after Su Ningyan once more.

After the Deer Clan was completely eradicated, preparations began for the journey toward the Heavenly Realm.

Toward the Vermilion Fox Clan.

This ti, Ningyan traveled only with Xie Zhenting and General He Yuting.

Truthfully, Ningyan had preferred traveling with only He Yuting accompanying him.

Xie Zhenting, however, had insisted on coming personally.

Because he understood one thing clearly. There was a very high possibility Su Ningyan would encounter Yan Wuhen again. For the first ti in three hundred years.

^°^

By the ti they arrived at the Vermilion Fox Clan, night had already descended fully across the Heavenly Realm.

Yet the entire clan blazed with life.

Crimson lanterns floated through the skies while foxfire danced along the streets like living spirits. Music echoed everywhere alongside laughter and playful shouting, creating an atmosphere so lively it almost felt unreal.

Mischievous fox beasts darted through every corner of the city.

Children ran across the glowing streets chasing one another while elegant fox spirits moved gracefully through the bustling crowds wearing elaborate masks adorned with jewels and feathers.

The towering buildings were sleek and beautiful, decorated with shimring lights that illuminated the night in waves of gold and crimson.

From within the carriage, Ningyan watched everything silently.

And for the first ti in a long while, he felt genuinely captivated by the warmth, life and freedom.

The Vermilion Fox Clan radiated all of it openly.

Eventually, Ningyan pulled away from the carriage window and looked toward Xie Zhenting, who had once again insisted on sharing the carriage with him.

Truthfully, Ningyan was beginning to grow irritated.

At first, Xie Zhenting’s constant presence had been comforting. When Ningyan first awakened, overwheld and hollow, Zhenting had been the only familiar thing in existence.

But now?

Nearly nine months had passed since his awakening.

And Xie Zhenting still hovered around him endlessly as though trying to pry open Ningyan’s mind to examine every thought hidden inside it.

Ningyan actually found it amusing.

How obsessed Xie Zhenting seed with him.

His lips curled.

"Do you rember," Ningyan began lazily, "the night you offered company?"

Xie Zhenting looked mildly surprised by the sudden question, though his expression quickly smoothed over again. "Yes."

Ningyan leaned back against the carriage seat. "I think I would like such company here."

His violet eyes drifted toward the bustling streets outside. "This place is refreshing."

A faint smile appeared across his face. "So vibrant."

His gaze slowly returned to Zhenting. "It’s addictive."

For the first ti that evening, Xie Zhenting’s expression darkened faintly. "I do not think that is a wise idea."

His tone sharpened slightly. "These beasts are our enemies."

Ningyan laughed softly beneath his breath. "That is exactly why I made certain we would not stay anywhere near the imperial palace."

His smile widened teasingly. "An exquisite inn is far more entertaining. This way, I can actually enjoy myself."

Then he tilted his head. "And perhaps you can too."

His eyes narrowed playfully. "You do possess freedom, do you not, Xie Zhenting?"

Ningyan watched him carefully, deliberately searching for a reaction.

But Zhenting’s face beca unreadable almost instantly.

It only made Ningyan chuckle again.

Not long afterward, they arrived at the exquisite inn arranged for the eting.

The building itself was overflowing with life.

Music drifted through the open halls while dancers twirled gracefully beneath hanging lanternlight. Spiritual incense curled through the air alongside laughter and the scent of fine wine.

Ningyan entered with Xie Zhenting at one side and General He Yuting at the other.

They were quickly escorted deeper into the inn toward a private chamber where the Beast Queen awaited them.

But the mont Ningyan stepped through the doorway, a fox beast guard extended an arm to stop Xie Zhenting. "Only the Beast Monarchs are permitted inside."

The atmosphere shifted instantly.

Xie Zhenting’s expression darkened dangerously.

For a mont, it looked as though he intended to force his way through regardless.

He Yuting suddenly spoke calmly beside him. "Do not do anything that will provoke His Greatness."

Those words alone halted him.

Zhenting’s jaw tightened before he finally stepped back with obvious displeasure.

Then he turned sharply and walked away without another word.

anwhile, Ningyan entered the chamber alone.

And the mont he did, his steps paused.

Seated before the low table was an absolutely breathtaking nine-tailed fox beastwoman.

Her crimson tails tipped with white swayed slowly behind her like living flas while rich red robes embroidered with golden patterns draped elegantly around her figure.

She was beautiful. Magnificent.

Her fox eyes shimred red-gold beneath the lantern light as she lifted a cup of liquor gracefully toward her red painted lips.

Then she looked up.

Their eyes t.

And instantly, her entire expression shattered.

The cup trembled within her grasp.

"Heavens, it can’t be." Shock flooded her features as though she had just witnessed a ghost standing before her. "Su Ningyan?"
