Ningyan hung upside down from a tree branch in the sparring grounds, arms folded behind his head as his hair dangled freely.

"Ugh. Why does he keep looking at ? It’s creepy," he muttered.

Below him, Rong Chao paced leisurely with a scroll in hand, not even glancing up. "I think it’s because you stabbed him," he replied calmly. "And he’s finally back after spending a full week in critical condition."

Ningyan’s gaze drifted back to Mingze.

The phoenix clan heir was sparring with a girl, his movents sharp and aggressive but his fiery, serpent-like eyes kept flicking toward Ningyan, each glance heavy with promise.

Promise of death.

Ningyan clicked his tongue and pulled himself upright, sitting on the branch. Over the past week, he had focused heavily on agility, refining his stage one cultivation further. His body was lighter, sharper.

Wuhen had helped whenever he could. Even busy, he never refused Ningyan training ti at the manor.

Still... Ningyan hadn’t told him about ishan.

About patching his core. About using sothing like a temporary bandage just to give him a chance.

But this training was a foundation. A necessary one.

It might make things easier for both him and ishan.

With a quiet sigh, Ningyan swung his legs idly before jumping down from the branch. He landed lightly, earning a glance from Rong Chao, who had begun practicing sword forms, claws wrapped tightly around the hilt.

"What’s wrong?" he asked.

Ningyan stretched, pulling his flute from his belt and spinning it lazily between his fingers. "I need sowhere quiet."

"But we have lectures in ten minutes," Rong Chao said, brow lifting.

Ningyan chuckled and patted his shoulder. "No one’s going to notice a cripple like going missing."

He walked away before Rong Chao could argue, Mingze’s gaze burning into his back.

After wandering the academy halls and asking around, Ningyan finally stopped before the Celestial Beast Academy’s Imperial Library.

It towered like a pagoda, just as vast and imposing inside as it appeared from the outside.

He swallowed, climbed the steps, and stepped inside. Only to find it just as empty as the first ti Lan ishan had brought him here.

Ningyan looked around the towering shelves, unsure whether he should call out Lan ishan’s na or...

"You are here."

The calm, deep whisper ca from behind him.

Ningyan’s heart skipped. He froze for a brief mont before letting out a quiet sigh.

"What is it with you male leads and sneaking up on people?" he muttered under his breath as he slowly turned.

Lan ishan stood there, composed and elegant like a scholar from an old painting. His erald serpent eyes glowed faintly, serene yet sharp. He was far too beautiful for Ningyan’s peace of mind.

ishan smiled lightly. "Does this an you are ready for us to begin?"

"Wow. Straight to the point, aren’t you?" Ningyan said, gripping his flute nervously. "I’ve been trying to build a foundation by sharpening my body tempering stage. Will that make things easier?"

Lan ishan nodded slowly. "That is actually very good to hear. How long have you been cultivating the first stage?"

This body was well-versed in it. Agile. Fast. According to the novel, Ningyan had trained in body tempering since childhood before his beast core was damaged.

"Since I was a child," he replied with a small nod.

Lan ishan studied him thoughtfully. His gaze briefly fell to Ningyan’s neck, unmistakably aware of the spirit mate chain but he made no comnt.

Instead, he turned and walked deeper into the library.

Ningyan blinked, then hurried after him.

They passed towering shelves until ishan stopped before a large door. Dark erald light glowed from his palms as he pushed it open.

Inside was a hidden cultivation space. A small waterfall cascading into clear water, soft grass beneath their feet, and gold and silver serpent sculptures embedded into the walls. The spiritual energy here was dense and tranquil.

It reminded Ningyan of the garden he had once stumbled into. Wuhen’s teacher’s garden.

The door closed behind them.

Ningyan flinched slightly, then cleared his throat as Lan ishan turned back to him.

"Are you sure you are ready?" ishan asked.

Ningyan nodded. "I am. But... I’m curious. What thod are you using? The books and scrolls you gave explained two. Core Strength Sharing and Forceful Activation."

He winced. "Forceful Activation sounds terrifying."

It required reaching directly into the damaged core, gripping it, and forcing it awake with pure spiritual energy.

Failure ant death.

ishan’s lips quirked into a faint smile.

"Don’t worry. I intend to use core strength sharing. I have no intention of causing you pain or discomfort."

Ningyan blinked rapidly. "But that thod harms the beast, channeling their strength more than the receiver. Are you going to be alright?"

ishan studied him carefully, as if weighing his thoughts.

"I think it is better that you do not concern yourself with , Su Ningyan," he said calmly. "If you lose focus, the consequences will be catastrophic."

He paused briefly.

"Do not forget that this repair is temporary. Until you enter the second stage and continue strengthening it, the core will remain fragile. In simple terms, the higher you climb, the stronger it becos."

Ningyan swallowed. He wanted to trust ishan.

So he asked the question that had been gnawing at him.

"How did you know my spirit mate chain is connected to Yan Wuhen? I know teachers can see the chain itself... but they shouldn’t know who it leads to."

ishan blinked, then smiled faintly.

"It is endearing that you think so highly of everyone," he said. "But I do not bla you. You are... rather weak."

Ningyan frowned in annoyance, even though he knew it was true.

"Not everyone has reached the Saint Beast stage of cultivation," ishan continued. "Not even the headmaster."

Ningyan stiffened.

"In the entire academy," ishan said evenly, "there are only eight."

He listed them calmly. "Myself. Yan Wuhen. Rong Yue. Jun Haoxuan. Yan Qinghe. Her partner, Tu Lanyin. And Bai Ziru."

Ningyan’s eyes widened.

For the first ti, it truly hit him.

He was living in this world. Blind, underpowered, and surrounded by beings strong enough to see everything he couldn’t.

He didn’t know the plot anymore.
