"Are you aware," Ruifeng continued softly, "that there are more than two hundred beasts outside, all searching for you, Su Ningyan?"

Ningyan didn’t react.

No flicker of surprise crossed his face, no tightening of his expression. If anything, he looked almost bored. Tang Ruifeng studied him closely, clearly waiting for a crack.. sothing. When none ca, curiosity sharpened his gaze.

He really was beautiful.

But not as beautiful as ishan. And though there was mischief in his eyes, it wasn’t the sa dangerous spark Yan Wuhen carried.

Ningyan frowned faintly.

Why the hell was he comparing them?

"Did Zihan set you up?" Ningyan asked abruptly. "Did she send you here to kill ?"

Tang Ruifeng laughed. "No. Not at all." He tilted his head, amused. "I’m just as surprised as you are. Imagine my shock, discovering that the beast so many wants dead is here in Water City, looking to get fucked."

Ningyan shot him a dry look. "A beast has his needs."

Ruifeng’s gaze darkened this ti, unmistakably lustful. "Indeed."

Ningyan cocked his head, studying him with open curiosity. "So? Are you going to kill ? I’m standing right here."

"I want to," Ruifeng admitted easily. "Trust ." He stepped closer, leaning in until their noses nearly brushed.

Ningyan could feel it. One move, one calculated shift, and he could twist this entire situation. Make this peacock his accomplice. His shield. Maybe more.

Yet... he didn’t.

Ruifeng’s voice lowered. "But we can do much better than spilling blood."

"Does that end with you burying yourself inside ?" Ningyan asked lightly, amusent glinting in his eyes.

Ruifeng huffed a laugh. "No. Unfortunately not." He straightened slightly. "I ca here for release. I was recently engaged.. to soone I don’t want. I thought I’d clear my head." His gaze lingered on Ningyan. "Then I found you. The one I’m supposed to kill." A slow smile curved his lips. "You’ve made my life far more interesting."

"So you’re an assassin," Ningyan said calmly. "And royalty, from the look of you."

"I am." Ruifeng didn’t deny it. "But I have too many older siblings. Even if I wanted the throne, it would never be mine."

"Then why aren’t you killing ?"

Ruifeng stepped back at last, the distance between them returning like a snapped thread. "Not today." His eyes flicked away. "If we et again, I will." He paused. "And I’m not sure I can give you what you want tonight."

Ningyan’s eyes widened slightly.

What he wanted was painfully obvious.

Without another word, Tang Ruifeng turned and walked away.

"Wait." Ningyan called out imdiately.

Tang Ruifeng stopped and turned. Ningyan offered him a slow smile.

"I don’t really understand what you an," he said calmly, "or why you aren’t attacking . But... thank you."

Tang Ruifeng chuckled softly. "Don’t thank , Su Ningyan. I told you. I will kill you if we et again."

With that, he turned and left the chamber.

Ningyan remained where he was, staring at the closed door, trying to piece together what the hell had just happened.

At least now he knew there were beasts out there hunting him.

Still, Tang Ruifeng hadn’t carried even an ounce of demonic energy. That alone unsettled him. If he wasn’t using a demon too, it ant he was strong.

Ningyan had to digest that soone far worse than i Ren was likely coming.

And more importantly, no one was going to swoop in and save him.

Without overthinking it, Ningyan grabbed his cloak and threw it over his shoulders. He seized the jar of wine and took a long drink from it as he strode out of the chamber. He found an open window, leapt through it, and landed lightly in the yard below.

He took another drink, then let out a deep, satisfied sigh before carefully setting the jar down. Pulling his cloak tighter, he activated his illusion mask into a wolf beastman and walked out of the establishnt grounds, his steps unhurried as he headed toward the bridge.

anwhile, at the heart of the Water City stood a massive clan manor.

Lan ishan entered the main hall, dressed in flowing black-and-white robes. Glasses rested neatly on his face, his steps precise and elegant. His erald serpent eyes glead faintly beneath the lantern light.

Seated upon the twin thrones was a woman clad in exquisite purple and white. Her hair was a soft, luminous shade of lilac, matching her eyes perfectly. Delicate purple fins adorned her ears. Servants stood at her sides, guards positioned carefully below the dais.

"Lan ishan," she said warmly, rising to her feet. Her gown swayed as she smiled. "What a pleasant surprise."

Lan ishan didn’t smile. He only inclined his head slightly.

"I apologize for coming here without prior notice."

"Why would you say that?" she replied lightly. "Just because Lan Yunlai has disowned you doesn’t an your status as a great divine beast prince has vanished."

She descended the steps and stopped before him. His tall form towered over her, yet she appeared entirely at ease with the difference in size and presence.

"I know, Yishu." ishan spoke without eting her gaze. "I’ve been in Water City for so ti now. I simply chose now to see you."

Yishu tilted her head, studying him. "We’ve been friends since childhood, ishan. You don’t need to be so formal with . I promise your arrival here will remain a complete secret."

Lan ishan nodded. "Thank you. But that isn’t why I’m here."

"Then why are you?" she asked, curiosity sharpening her tone.

ishan raised his hand. A parchnt materialized in the air, glowing faintly green. Upon it was a vivid sketch of Ningyan’s face.

"I need to find him."

Yishu’s eyes widened. "The phoenix with a bounty on his head?" She paused. "Are you here to claim it?"

ishan dismissed the parchnt at once. "No. Not at all. I just need to find him."

Her gaze narrowed slightly now. "If you aren’t going to kill him... then why seek him out?"

"Because he’s my lover," ishan said quietly. "And his life is in danger."

For a brief mont, surprise flickered across Yishu’s face. Then she smiled.

"You do realize my influence only extends among water beasts," she said gently. "But yes. I’ll help you."

Lan ishan finally released the breath he’d been holding. "Thank you, Yishu."

She returned his smile.
