My stats ca back on day five.

Not all the way — STR hit twenty-four, AGI twenty-eight, INT twenty-seven, close enough to baseline that the gap was manageable rather than critical. The wiki stopped flagging recovery in progress and switched to recovery complete with a note that full restoration to base stats would follow naturally through normal activity.

Close enough.

I told Mira at breakfast. She had the Floor 7 notes already out.

---

We went in at midmorning — , Mira, Rin, Sable with her expanded materials, Cael with no weapons and the retained UI access and three weeks of protocol contact in her history. Five people in a dungeon entry chamber for the first ti.

The entry chamber read us the way it always did — the warr ambient light, the constructed architecture, the three corridor openings standing equal width and height. Sable looked at the ceiling with her characteristic attention. Cael stood still and I watched her read the system tags floating above the corridor entrances.

"Left has residue," she said quietly. "Like sothing passed through it recently and left a trace."

I looked at the left corridor. The wiki showed nothing — clean architecture, mapped and docunted from prior runs. But Cael wasn’t reading the wiki. She was reading the protocol’s architecture directly, the access the vector function had installed in her and hadn’t taken back when the corruption cleared.

"The unit," Mira said.

"Maybe." Cael looked at center and right. "Those feel neutral. Left feels used."

We took left.

The corridor ran the way I’d mapped it — two branches, four junctions, the wall markings in the linear repeating pattern that Sable had docunted on a prior surface run. She walked with her materials bag open, eyes moving between walls and pages, already taking notes without being asked.

The unit t us at the second junction.

Taller than the Shades, longer limb ratio, partial UI tag generating and not completing the way it never completed. It looked at the party — five of us, first ti it had seen more than three — and the head tilt ca at twenty seconds instead of thirty. Learning curve still running, still ahead of the prior session.

Palm out. Stop and wait.

Then sothing new. It looked at Cael specifically. The head tilt ca a second ti, directed at her, a different angle than the standard one.

"It recognizes the protocol residue," Cael said. Her voice was steady. "It can read what was running through ."

The unit held her gaze for a long mont. Then it turned and walked toward the third junction.

We followed.

---

The chamber was the sa — wall to wall markings, complex and systematic, the warm light from wherever it ca from hitting the surface in a way that made the precision of the work visible. Sable moved to the nearest wall imdiately, pages out, left hand already finding the line pressure she needed. She worked without comntary, which was Sable operating at full capacity.

The unit stood at the center and watched Cael.

Cael stood still and closed her eyes.

Rin’s hand was at her blade. I put my hand out. She held.

Thirty seconds. Forty. The unit didn’t move. Cael didn’t move. Mira had her bolt ready and her eyes on the unit and the specific stillness she used for situations where she was one half-second from action if the read changed.

Cael opened her eyes.

"There," she said. She pointed at the floor — center of the chamber, the sa spot where the unit always stood. "Underneath. The fourth anchor point is underneath this room."

The unit stepped aside.

Where it had been standing there was a floor marking I hadn’t seen on any prior visit — not the radial pattern, not the individual grid record marks. A single symbol, isolated, cut deeper into the stone than anything else in the chamber. Recent work. The precision was exact.

I crouched and looked at it.

The wiki generated imdiately.

FLOOR 7 UNIT — ENTRY 005 UPDATE

New data: chamber floor marking — single isolated symbol / cut depth exceeds all prior markings / estimated completion: recent

Cross-reference: structural flag / fourth distribution point / confird location

Communication update: direct indication gesture confird — unit indicated Cael / unit indicated floor symbol / sequence = here / below / this

Classification: STILL PENDING — insufficient data for full classification

Note: Unit has been marking the fourth point’s location since before protocol detection / docuntation predates wiki awareness of structural flag / unit knew before we did

It knew before we did.

I read that line twice.

The unit had been cutting that symbol into the floor before the wiki had caught the protocol running. Before I’d hit the first three anchor points. Before any of us had understood what the structural flag ant. It had been docunting the location of the fourth distribution point and waiting for soone to co read it.

I stood up.

The unit was looking at with those non-completing UI tags and the head tilt that had beco familiar over weeks of contact. Waiting.

"Mira," I said.

She was already crouching beside , reading the symbol, cross-referencing against her six pages of chamber docuntation. "It’s not in any of the wall markings," she said. "This is new. It cut this specifically."

"For us," Rin said. She’d moved closer, blade still in hand but angled down. Looking at the symbol with the focused assessnt she gave to kill points. "It’s been waiting for us to be ready."

I looked at the unit.

It had known about the fourth anchor point longer than the wiki had. It had been docunting the location systematically, the sa way it docunted everything — precision work, consistent thodology, waiting for the party to reach the comprehension level where it could communicate the information directly.

That was not hostile architecture.

That was sothing that had been trying to help us before we knew we needed help.

"The fourth point is below this room," I said. "The unit has marked the location. I need to access the cheat system from directly above it — the proximity might be enough to make the fourth point visible to the wiki even if it’s below standard visibility range."

"Your stats," Mira said.

"Twenty-four, twenty-eight, twenty-seven. Not full baseline but functional." I looked at her. "The protocol is in a holding pattern. If it detects cheat system activity at this proximity it might trigger whatever condition it’s been waiting for. I need the whole party ready."

Rin was already repositioning — moving to the chamber entrance, covering the corridor behind us. Mira took the right flank. Cael stayed at center, eyes half-closed, reading the architecture the way she’d learned to read it.

Sable kept docunting. She looked up once, t my eyes, went back to the wall.

I opened the cheat system and pushed it directly down.

Not offensive deploynt — not yet. Just wiki access, extended range, directed through the floor at the location the unit had marked. The system pushed back imdiately, the familiar resistance of ga-level architecture, but different this ti — less like a wall and more like a locked door with the key in the wrong hand.

The wiki flickered.

Then it extended.

WIKI ACCESS — EXTENDED RANGE ACTIVE

Below-visibility scan: IN PROGRESS

Target: Fourth distribution point / confird location

Depth: SIGNIFICANT — beyond standard floor architecture

Status: RESOLVING

The chamber went quiet in a way that had nothing to do with sound. The unit stood at the wall and did not move. Cael’s breathing was even and focused. The warm ambient light did what it always did, sourceless and steady.

The wiki resolved.

FOURTH DISTRIBUTION POINT — LOCATED

Classification: ARCHITECTURAL — embedded in floor 7 foundation layer

Function: Protocol anchor / final holding point

Status: ACTIVE — reduced capacity / conserving

Access: POSSIBLE — cheat system proximity sufficient

Suppression: AVAILABLE — cost unknown

Note: Protocol trigger condition identified — anchor point suppression will trigger protocol final response / nature of final response: UNKNOWN / proceed with full party awareness

Trigger condition identified.

Suppressing the fourth point would trigger the protocol’s final response. Unknown nature. The ga had built a last move into its correction chanism and I was one cheat system push away from finding out what it was.

I looked at Mira. She’d read the wiki update. Her jaw was set.

"Unknown final response," she said.

"Yes."

"That’s everything we don’t have," Rin said from the entrance. Flat, practical. "We push it, we find out what it does. We don’t push it, the protocol holds and waits indefinitely."

"It’s been conserving," Cael said quietly. "Waiting. Whatever the final response is — it needs the right conditions. It’s been holding because the conditions aren’t t yet." She opened her eyes and looked at . "Lyra’s trust threshold."

Ninety-seven. System response pending.

"The protocol’s final response and the system response to Lyra’s threshold are connected," I said. "The protocol has been suppressing the threshold response since it activated. If I push the fourth point while the threshold is still at ninety-seven —"

"The protocol fires its final move before the threshold triggers," Mira said. "But if the threshold hits one hundred first —"

"The system response fires before the protocol can use it." I looked at the floor symbol. "The protocol has been holding because it’s waiting for the threshold to move. It needs to intercept it."

Rin was looking at from the entrance. "So we need Lyra at one hundred before you push the anchor point."

"Yes."

"How."

I thought about Lyra on a market bench telling both things are true without needing them resolved into one. Trust threshold moving three points in a single conversation.

"I talk to her," I said.

The unit had not moved. It was looking at the floor symbol with the focused quality it brought to its own work, the sa attention Sable brought to docuntation. Patient. It had been patient for a long ti.

I looked at it.

"Thank you," I said.

The head tilt. Thirty degrees, the familiar angle. Then sothing I hadn’t seen before — a single slow nod. Not the head tilt. An actual nod. Deliberate.

It understood thank you.

The wiki updated Entry 005 with the gesture and flagged it under communication vocabulary expanding and I filed it and straightened up.

"Surface," I said. "I need to find Lyra."

We surfaced into Ashveil afternoon and I went to find her.
