Aside from the wallpaper, there didn’t seem to be anything particularly sensitive in her brother’s rented apartnt—at least, not if you didn’t open his computer folders, cloud drives, or ga platforms.
Sitting on the living room sofa, Ning Chu looked up at the ceiling, which was easily four or five ters high, and asked curiously,
“Why is the second floor only built over a third of the space? With this height, couldn’t you make it full?”
“Maybe it’d feel too cramped otherwise?”
Ning Yuan, face still slightly flushed, sat stiffly at his desk, frantically cleaning up all the “questionable” things on his computer desktop.
“Huh. I thought I’d see sothing weird,”
Ning Chu sighed, a little disappointed.
—Wait, wasn’t that nsfw picture from a mont ago weird enough!?
Ning Yuan’s mouth twitched as he glanced over at his sister—and only when he noticed the small bump under her skirt near the tailbone did he suddenly rember: his little sister was a succubus.
For a succubus, yeah… maybe that kind of stuff really wasn’t “weird.”
Still, he tried hard to separate the general image of succubi from his own sister—otherwise, he’d never be able to look at his family properly again.
Ning Chu took off her coat, revealing a fitted white turtleneck sweater that perfectly outlined her curves.
Sohow, she’d grown from a “small bun” into a full “at bun,” and even the thick winter clothes couldn’t hide it.
She crossed her legs on the coffee table and snapped a few pictures of the apartnt to send to their mother—part of a “mission” from Mom, apparently.
“So, what’s for lunch?”
They’d been on the road for over an hour, and it was nearly noon.
“Let’s just order takeout. Up to you.”
Finally done hiding all his “study materials,” Ning Yuan wiped his (imaginary) sweat and asked,
“When are you leaving?”
“Hey! I just got here! You’re kicking out already?”
“I need to take a nap this afternoon.”
“At least let eat lunch before I go, right?”
With a helpless sigh, Ning Yuan tossed his phone onto the sofa.
“Order whatever you want.”
“Got it~!”
Ning Chu cheerfully ordered a few dozen yuan’s worth of takeout, then went back to exploring her brother’s little apartnt with excitent.
This kind of duplex studio had always been her dream ho—two floors, easy to clean, perfect for a single person.
But once she actually stepped inside, she realized her fantasy had been… a little too idealistic.
The upstairs bedroom ceiling was barely 1.8 ters high—soone like Wen Yang would have to stoop to walk.
There was no bathroom upstairs, so you had to go up and down every ti you needed the toilet.
And worst of all—she wasn’t living alone anymore.
Two people definitely needed sothing roomier~
Just as she finished wandering around, a knock sounded at the door.
“What’d you order that got here so fast?”
“I’ll get it!”
Ning Chu hurriedly ran down from the loft bedroom, nearly twisting her ankle on the stairs.
She caught herself on the wall, then jogged to the door.
When she opened it, she found a girl standing outside—high ponytail, cozy ho pajamas.
Instinctively, Ning Chu reached out to take the food bag—only to realize the girl wasn’t holding anything.
“Um… you are?”
The other girl actually spoke first, looking confused—then suddenly tensed up, stepping back half a pace like a startled cat, eyes sharp and defensive.
Ning Chu froze for a mont.
That wary, territorial expression… it looked just like her own whenever another girl tried to flirt with Wen Yang.
‘Interesting~~’
She turned her head toward the room and deliberately swallowed back the word “brother.”
“Looks like soone ca to see you.”
“Who is it?”
Ning Yuan stood up from his desk and ca over.
Being taller, he imdiately saw who was at the door and smiled.
“Oh, Xiao Xi! I just got back after New Year’s.”
At the sight of him, the girl’s expression softened instantly.
Her eyes curved, her tone gentle.
“I just got back too.”
Then she tilted her head slightly, gaze flicking toward the shoe rack where two new pairs of shoes sat.
“I noticed a couple of extra shoes by the door…” she asked cutely, though her tone carried a hint of unease. “She’s…?”
Ning Chu’s sharp eyes caught the subtle tension in the girl’s hands—her knuckles pale, veins showing.
“My sister,” Ning Yuan said.
The girl’s smile instantly grew even sweeter, and the wariness in her eyes vanished completely.
“Oh, your sister~? Perfect timing! I accidentally bought too many groceries today—how about we all eat together?”
“Uh… you always ‘accidentally’ buy too much. I already ordered takeout.”
Ning Yuan scratched his head awkwardly.
anwhile, Ning Chu secretly kicked him in the shin, frustrated beyond words.
Seriously!?
This girl clearly likes you! Can you not be such a dense straight man for once!?
She’s practically throwing herself at you! And you’re still turning her down!?
Trying to save the situation, Ning Chu quickly smiled and stepped in.
“If you don’t mind… our takeout can just be an extra dish.”
“Great! I live right next door—let cook first! I’ll call you when it’s ready!”
Xiao Xi bead, tiptoed cheerfully, and skipped back to her apartnt next door.
As soon as the door closed, Ning Chu turned back to her brother, who looked visibly troubled, and asked earnestly,
“Bro, seriously—you can’t see what’s going on here?”
“What?”
“She likes you!” Ning Chu threw up her hands in exasperation.
“She’s basically all over you! One nod from you and you’d have a girlfriend already! And after all the effort I went through to get you Lily’s contact info, too!”
“Besides, she’s cute! Honestly, she’s not worse-looking than you. With a little makeup, she’d be really pretty!”
But Ning Yuan only gave a pained look.
“Please no. She’s probably trying to poison .”
“...What?”
“You have no idea what you’re talking about.” He sighed deeply.
“I’m traumatized, okay?”
“Huh?”
Ning Yuan rubbed his stomach and slumped back onto the sofa.
“She can’t cook to save her life. Either it’s burnt to charcoal or drowned in salt.
I ate her food once—and never again.”
“That’s supposed to be a lunch made with love, you know~”
“Lunch made with love, my ass! She was just experinting on like I’m her taste-test dummy.”
“Can you not freak out? I’m not even panicking,” Ning Chu muttered.
“You should be,” Ning Yuan shot back, rolling his eyes.
“Xiao Xi’s my college classmate. She used to tease every single day. The idea that she actually likes ? Yeah, right.”
“Tease you?”
Ning Yuan looked a little embarrassed, lowering his voice.
“More like… bully .”
“Well, damn~”
Ning Chu sank down next to him, frowning in silence.
The thing was—Xiao Xi’s expression just now scread possessiveness.
When Xiao Xi saw her at the door, she looked exactly like a jealous girlfriend catching the “other woman.”
That sa look of burning irritation she herself wore whenever another girl tried to flirt with Wen Yang.
But according to Ning Yuan, that girl had been bullying him since college?
She couldn’t make sense of it.
Ning Chu rubbed her temples in frustration.
Even after spending years living as a girl, she’d t only a handful of won—and never one this confusing.
Finally, Ning Chu asked the real question:
“So… is it really that bad?”
“If you’re lucky,” Ning Yuan sighed, “you can just about eat it.”
