Ji Rui’s dinner was incredibly stifling.
He sat on a small stool eating takeout, while the one he thought would lend a helping hand, Ji Baby, was swinging his little legs on the sofa, eating happily, without a care for his poor dad.
As for Le Tong, needless to say, she simply treated him as if he didn’t exist.
Not even a polite "Mr. Ji, would you like to join us?"
He, as the great President Ji, couldn’t possibly have the thick skin to just walk over and grab a piece of at or a vegetable, could he?
The takeout was already bad, and with Le Tong’s ho-cooked dishes on the coffee table as a comparison, the takeout beca even harder to swallow.
After a few bites, Ji Rui simply closed the lunch box and tossed it into the garbage bin in the corner.
Le Tong had made up her mind to treat him as air, so she held back without saying anything.
After all, he’s not a child; when he’s hungry, he’ll naturally find sothing to fill his stomach. Besides, he’s not anyone to her; she isn’t responsible for his food and health.
Ji Baby, however, occasionally glanced at Ji Rui, but he was also afraid of making Le Tong angry, so he didn’t dare to openly help Ji Rui.
Only when Le Tong packed the tableware into the kitchen did Ji Baby signal Ji Rui with his finger.
"Daddy..."
Ji Rui was busy handling work on his laptop, but upon hearing Ji Baby calling, he quickly went over.
"Did you have a fight with mommy?" Ji Baby asked curiously.
Ji Rui was a bit taken aback. Was it that obvious? Even Ji Baby noticed it?
"Did you?" Ji Baby sweetly shook Ji Rui’s arm.
Ji Rui had no choice but to nod honestly, "Uh-huh..."
Ji Baby rolled his eyes, "Daddy... no wonder mommy says you’re an idiot!"
"Huh?" Ji Rui looked at Ji Baby, puzzled.
"If you two fought, then go make it up!" Ji Baby almost couldn’t resist poking his dad’s thick-headed skull with his little finger.
"How do I make it up?"
Ji Rui was a bit lost; the only person he’s ever tried to appease was probably Ji Baby.
But even with Ji Baby, he wasn’t always successful; let alone with Le Tong!
"Silly! I can’t understand how I ended up with such a blockhead for a dad when I’m so smart..."
Ji Baby sighed, his expression as if he were the adult and Ji Rui his disappointing child.
Ji Rui, feeling disdained by his son’s words, patted the boy’s head, "Ji Yu, I’m the dad here!"
Ji Baby straightened up, adopting a more mature deanor, "Fine, but that’s not the point."
"Daddy, haven’t you ever made it up to mommy before?"
Ji Baby tried to prompt Ji Rui, hoping to think of a solution.
Ji Rui paused again, trying hard to recall. It seed he really hadn’t ever made it up to her.
But he sure did complain a lot!
Thinking of the past, Ji Rui couldn’t help but show a trace of guilt on his face.
"Never..."
"Then how did you even get together with mommy?" Ji Baby was curious!
He didn’t realize, he’d t mommy even before his dad did!
"Well..."
Ji Rui felt slightly awkward, being asked such obviously child-inappropriate questions by a little kid, was this really okay?
"Never pursued..." However, Ji Rui still honestly answered his son.
"Uh, could it be mommy pursued you?"
Ji Rui thought about calling a TV station tomorrow to complain about their programs seriously impacting children’s ntal and physical health. How could a child so young ask questions more expert than a love advisor?
"Buddy, Daddy didn’t chase after your mommy, and your mommy didn’t chase after Daddy either."
Ji Rui had no intention of telling Ji Baby the truth for now, since he had no related experience and wasn’t keen on such topics. No matter how much he racked his brains, he couldn’t co up with any romantic history with Le Tong to deceive Ji Baby, so he gave a roundabout answer.
"No wonder..."
Ji Baby suddenly had an enlightened expression, though exactly what he was thinking, he didn’t plan to tell Ji Rui.
Ji Rui: "..."
"So do you know what mommy likes?" Baby decided he’d better help daddy; he didn’t want to be stuck between them every day.
"She likes..."
Ji Rui tried hard to think but couldn’t co up with what she truly liked.
Ji Baby waited for quite a while, seeing him silent for so long without a clear answer, he finally gave up, "Daddy, no wonder mommy says you’re an idiot, you’re not just an idiot; you’re a super idiot!"
After that, he tucked his legs up and curled into the sofa, picking up his little book, ignoring Ji Rui altogether.
Ji Rui pondered for a while, suddenly thinking of sothing, got up, and went out.
Le Tong heard the door close, and called out from the kitchen, "Baby, don’t open the door casually!"
"Got it! Daddy left!"
Implying that the sound of the door shutting earlier was when Ji Rui left.
Le Tong exhaled a bit in relief but couldn’t help feeling a little guilty. Was she too harsh on him earlier?
No matter what, he’s her boss; treating him like this, when he returns to the Ji Family, would he take revenge and make her life difficult?
Le Tong washed dishes, lost in several random thoughts.
Not long after Ji Rui left, the doorbell rang.
Le Tong hurriedly rinsed the suds off her hands, jogging out, and peeked through the peephole. It was Ji Rui, who had returned.
"Did you forget sothing?" Le Tong opened the door, stepping aside to let the man in.
Ji Rui nodded but didn’t say anything, just followed Le Tong into the kitchen, carrying a bag.
"Le Tong, this is for you." Ji Rui took a beautifully wrapped box from the bag and spoke to Le Tong, who had turned her back to him while washing dishes.
Le Tong turned around, puzzled, glancing at him, "What is it?"
Ji Rui firmly pushed the box into her hands, "See if you like it!"
Le Tong frowned, barely glancing at the packaging before pushing the box back without even thinking, "I don’t want it, what’s with this unexpected gift for no reason?"
Ji Rui shoved the box back at her, "Who said it’s for no reason? You’ve been taking care of Baby so hard lately, what’s wrong with giving you a small gift? It’s nothing really, just take a look and see if you like it."
Le Tong, with no other option as he persisted, had to lower her head and take a proper look at the box.
The box had a lot of English on it; after carefully studying it for a while, she realized it was an expensive bottle of red wine.
"Uh, Mr. Ji, I can’t accept this!"
What a joke, a bottle of red wine could cover her salary for several years; how could she dare accept it?
"Don’t you like wine? This one’s quite llow, give it a try!" Ji Rui simply didn’t understand; besides the fact that the gift was from him, the price was another major factor in Le Tong’s refusal.
He focused solely on the aspect of liking it.
