Ji Rui hung up after saying just a few words; it seems he was caught up in urgent matters over there.
But even such simple words made Le Tong’s stifling heart feel a lot more relaxed.
I’m really hopeless!
Reflecting on her own late realizations, Le Tong rubbed her forehead with a bitter smile and bowed her head to continue working through the pile of tasks in front of her, uncertain of when she’d manage to finish.
During dinner, Le Tong’s thoughts were still stuck amidst that pile of work affairs, when suddenly she heard her beloved son’s call.
"Mommy, Mommy!" Baobao tugged at her wrist.
"Hmm?" Le Tong turned her head, looking a bit dazedly at Baobao.
Because she brought ho such a pile of tasks, and Luo Yuanyuan is a spoiled young lady who doesn’t lift a finger, simply having Manager Chen deliver the usual dishes over, Baobao and Luo Yuanyuan set up the al before she took her seat. Now, her mind hadn’t yet moved away from work.
Baobao looked excited, "Yuanyuan Sister said if she becos a bride, she wants Baobao to be the flower boy!"
Le Tong was startled, opening her eyes wide and staring at Luo Yuanyuan.
"You and Xu Tao are planning to get married? How co I haven’t heard you ntion it?"
Recently, Le Tong has t privately with Luo Yuanyuan less frequently than before, but Luo Yuanyuan still makes ti every week to co and spend ti with Baobao. Yet the news of her getting married was sothing Le Tong was hearing for the first ti.
Luo Yuanyuan, usually carefree, rarely showed a shy smile, "He just proposed yesterday..."
Le Tong still looked at her with wide-open eyes. If she rembered correctly, not long ago, that girl Yuan’er was still stubbornly saying she wasn’t in a rush to get married and wanted to enjoy their ti together.
Now, hastily preparing for marriage, could it be a shotgun marriage?
That’s what Le Tong thought, and she asked a little more tactfully from her lips.
"Yuan’er, you and Xu Tao, are you..."
Le Tong glanced sideways at Baobao, the implication clear without saying it aloud.
Luo Yuanyuan’s face turned even redder, almost imperceptibly, nodding slightly.
Though she guessed as much, Le Tong was still stunned for a mont, before rembering she should congratulate her good friend.
"Congratulations, Yuan’er!"
Luo Yuanyuan smiled happily, and Le Tong then turned to instruct Baobao, "Baobao, in the future, you can’t play too roughly with Yuanyuan Sister, don’t let Yuanyuan Sister carry you, and don’t bump into her, okay?"
Baobao tilted his head, thought about it, and then seriously nodded, "Oh, Baobao knows. Yuanyuan Sister has a little baby in her tummy, so Baobao will be very careful, very careful!"
Le Tong had long been ntally prepared for her son’s intelligence and maturity, so she wasn’t surprised at him saying sothing like that. But Yuan’er was a bit scared.
"Tsk tsk, Baobao, you’re only six years old, and you already know about the baby stuff?"
Baobao glared at her with obvious disdain.
"Please, it’s always on TV, isn’t it?! And Mommy is about to have a baby soon too, so of course, Baobao needs to know!"
Upon hearing this, Le Tong felt sothing was off, wanting to cover Baobao’s mouth with her hand but already too late.
Luo Yuanyuan was even more surprised now because she was unaware of Le Tong’s relationship with Ji Rui.
"You... you and Ji Rui..."
Le Tong thought, anyway, whether ducking or confronting, there’s no avoiding it, so she might as well be forthright about it. Moreover, Ji Rui isn’t soone to hide from the public; it’s just that their developnt has been sowhat inexplicable.
"Yes, we are now boyfriend and girlfriend." Le Tong decisively nodded, frankly admitting her relationship with Ji Rui.
"Tsk, no wonder they say enemies always et; it fits perfectly for you two!"
Luo Yuanyuan, although shocked, didn’t express doubt. She wouldn’t tell her friend that as an observer, it seed that a subtle ambiguous atmosphere had surrounded them both for a long ti. However, the external circumstances weren’t suitable for that ambiguity to flourish wildly until it slowly dragged on to today.
Le Tong glared at her friend, carefully watching Baobao, seeing the little guy delightfully munching with his mouth full of grease, only then did her worries ease slightly.
The scenes of her and Ji Rui arguing, with Baobao present several tis, but nevertheless, she didn’t want Baobao to know the contentious past between herself and Ji Rui.
Even though she knew it was a lie, Le Tong still hoped that in Baobao’s mind, his existence was born from love between his parents, and not from a chilling transaction.
Luo Yuanyuan stuck out her tongue after being glared at by her friend, not daring to speak randomly again.
Le Tong stirred the soup in her bowl, her eyes fixed on Luo Yuanyuan.
"Is the wedding date set?"
Luo Yuanyuan shook her head, "Not yet, but probably soon, because my dad says the sooner the wedding’s done, the sooner I can rest and take care of the pregnancy."
Le Tong nodded, endorsing Mr. Luo’s approach.
Beside them, the little one raised his head curiously, looking at Le Tong, "When Baobao was in Mommy’s tummy, was Baobao good?"
Le Tong’s thoughts instantly swept back to over six years ago.
Baobao was quite easy-going; otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to care for him while juggling taking care of her mother, recovering from surgery. Later on, she was taken to that unfamiliar yet paradise-like place, surrounded by a bunch of doctors and nurses dedicated to attending to her. At that ti, she self-mocked more than once, that those months were probably the finest and most privileged days of her life. However, the privilege and comfort gained in such a way was sothing Le Tong could never truly enjoy.
"Good, Baobao was very good; even the nurse’s aunt said Baobao was very good!" That was indeed what the doctor who looked after Le Tong said back then.
In the apartnt in R City, the three of them chatted about Baobao and the little baby while eating, the atmosphere was very lively.
anwhile, in a luxury suite of a high-end hotel in Y Country, there were two people sitting in the living room.
One had a tall, upright stature with black hair and green eyes, and an impressive face.
One was slightly overweight, blond-haired with green eyes, ordinary-looking but with a sharp gaze that clearly revealed a tough character.
"Mr. Ji, everything you asked for is in here." The blond-haired, green-eyed fat man handed a bulging docunt folder to the handso man.
The handso man took the folder, opened it, and took out two items; included were a contract and another smaller zipper bag.
The handso man ticulously examined the contract, lifted the zipper bag, "What’s this?"
The fat man raised his chin and replied, "So ntos from when your little one was born; handprints, footprints, a wristband, and so on."
The handso man’s eyes quickly flashed with tenderness, but then quickly turned cold.
"I’ll pay the money. You’re sure that besides our original two copies and this one, there’s no second copy of this to be found?"
"Absolutely sure!"
