Not long after Ji Rui hung up the phone, Le Tong received a call from Yang Sheng.
"Tongtong, the demon has ordered, working overti tomorrow!"
The demon that Yang Sheng ntioned naturally referred to Ji Rui.
"Hey, didn’t they say things were almost done? Why do we have to work overti again?"
Le Tong was at Zhang Yi’s house playing with the kids along with Sister-in-law Zhang, and she had planned to go to the park with Sister-in-law Zhang and Wenwen early the next morning.
"You don’t need to know the specifics, anyway, the demon has issued the order, the sooner the task is finished, the better!"
Le Tong replied helplessly, "Alright, what ti tomorrow?"
"Nine o’clock. Oh, and buy so of that porridge and roasted sweet potatoes you brought back yesterday for breakfast tomorrow."
Yang Sheng, like Ji Rui, often had to dine with clients, and was sick of big feasts. Yesterday, he eagerly took half of Le Tong’s breakfast and enjoyed it thoroughly.
Le Tong checked the ti, it was past nine, Brother Zhang should be back soon. Being Saturday, business would be good, so it’s likely he wouldn’t save any roasted sweet potatoes for her today.
"I can bring you porridge, but I’m not sure about the roasted sweet potatoes."
No matter what Le Tong said, Zhang Yi still saved her seven or eight roasted sweet potatoes. He refused her money, so Le Tong would occasionally buy toys, food, and clothes for Wenwen. Nowadays, she rarely stayed bored in her apartnt reading books or watching TV, nor did she visit the library as much to pass ti. Instead, she often went to Zhang Yi’s house across the street to play with Wenwen. Wenwen, who was babbling, was very cute, and Le Tong liked her a lot. The little girl liked her too, and every ti she saw her, she would open her little arms and call, "Sister... Sister...".
The rice porridge was made by Le Tong herself. She would cook a big pot and then pack it into small containers to store in the fridge. When she wanted to eat, she’d take one out and heat it in the microwave, making breakfast or a midnight snack easy to handle.
Most of the porridge was plain rice, but she would add fresh at or a poached egg according to taste. Le Tong wasn’t sure of Yang Sheng’s preference, so she added so beef, and placed an egg in her own portion.
At nine, the three of them sat in the reception room of the president’s office. Yang Sheng opened the container and sniffed, "Wow, Tongtong, you’re so aweso, how did you know I like beef rice porridge?"
Ji Rui was sitting not far from Le Tong on a single sofa, holding the coffee made by Le Tong, but his eyes were fixated on the porridge and roasted sweet potatoes in Yang Sheng’s hands.
"Just guessed, you really like beef?" Le Tong laughed as she took out her own portion.
"Yeah, I love it the most."
Yang Sheng took a sip of porridge and raised his head with satisfaction, "Hmm... this porridge is really good, soft and fluffy. Tongtong, where did you buy the breakfast? Maybe I should eat there next ti."
Le Tong was about to eat her porridge, but before she could answer Yang Sheng, she noticed President Ji holding his coffee, staring at her and Yang Sheng.
"President, didn’t you have breakfast? Want so?" Le Tong pretended to hand the rice porridge to Ji Rui.
Ji Rui withdrew his gaze and said softly, "No need," taking a sip of the coffee he had to drink before starting his work.
Le Tong uttered an "Oh" before turning to answer Yang Sheng’s question.
"Senior, you can’t buy this porridge outside. The roasted sweet potatoes are from a stall near my ho."
Le Tong had been eating rice porridge with sweet potatoes for many days straight without feeling sick of it.
"Hey, Tongtong, do you make this porridge every day? Can you get an extra portion every day?" Yang Sheng shalessly requested with a playful smile.
Le Tong nodded, "Sure!", and was about to eat her porridge.
"Pass the porridge!" Just after refusing Le Tong’s offer, President Ji stretched his long arms and snatched the porridge container from her.
"Uh... President, didn’t you say you didn’t need it?"
Le Tong pitifully watched as the rice porridge ant for her stomach got gulped down by the man, who drank over half of it.
Ji Rui drank more than half of the porridge in a single breath, then gracefully dabbed his mouth with a napkin and glanced at her, "Didn’t you say drinking coffee on an empty stomach is bad?"
Le Tong helplessly took a bite of the sweet potato, venting all her grievances on it.
This President Ji was becoming increasingly malicious. Didn’t he used to be content with just a pot of coffee? Why did he have to steal her breakfast now? Couldn’t he just let her have it?
Maybe she did sothing to upset him lately?
Le Tong cursed Ji Rui in her heart while simultaneously reflecting and examining herself.
For the ti being, she wouldn’t consider resigning because, just two days ago, Aunt Huang from the finance departnt had told her the president had notified her that Le Tong’s base salary would be increased by ten percent starting next month.
With this increase, it was nearly enough to cover a month’s rent for Le Tong. Plus, with the recent overti, the overti pay had also made Le Tong very satisfied.
She secretly calculated yesterday that with her current inco at Ji Family, living a bit frugally for two or three years would be enough to cover a twenty percent down paynt for a small apartnt.
Of course, the apartnt’s location would be quite remote, but after all, it would be a place truly belonging to her.
Therefore, for that little nest of her own in two or three years, Le Tong was ntally prepared to endure whatever difficulties President Ji threw her way!
President Ji nonchalantly wiped his mouth and then casually said, "Bring a portion for too, no lamb, everything else is fine."
In her heart, Le Tong secretly gave the finger. This man was really shaless. Her senior asked with a face full of a pleasing smile, while he acted as if it was only natural for her to bring him a portion.
But thinking about that little place that would be hers in two or three years, Le Tong could only respond, "Oh...".
"The breakfast money will be transferred to you along with your salary."
After Ji Rui said this, he lowered his head and continued eating the remaining half box of porridge.
Le Tong, who just wagged a finger in her mind, imdiately had stars twinkling in her eyes upon hearing the president would pay for the porridge. In the dazzling halo of those stars, President Ji’s image instantly beca tall and radiant.
Ah! President, you’re truly a considerate and good boss to your subordinates!
Yang Sheng glared at Ji Rui, "Rui, you wickedly rich person, you’re really out of line! Tongtong already agreed to treat to breakfast every day, but with your generous wave, it makes feel guilty about eating for free."
Ji Rui glanced at him, "Special Assistant Yang, I heard your annual salary is several million, my little secretary only makes around tens of thousands!"
Implying that Yang Sheng was greedy, even though he was wealthy, he still dared to freeload?
Yang Sheng shrugged, "Fine, however much you give Tongtong, deduct the sa amount from to give to Tongtong."
Although Le Tong found the idea of charging her boss for breakfast a bit petty and rcenary, she couldn’t resist the allure of money. Despite being exploited, she humd a song cheerfully in her mind, thinking the roasted sweet potatoes tasted especially delicious!
