After lunch, Nuonuo Xiaobao was sent off by Le Tong for a nap, while Da Bao dragged Ji Rui into the study.
"Daddy, did you like Mommy at first because she was pretty?"
Undeniably, when it cos to matters of the heart, Da Bao preferred discussing things with Mommy. But there’s a natural inclination in n, especially between father and son, often leading to so inexplicable commonalities.
Although Da Bao often despised his father’s extre slowness in certain areas, he also acknowledged that quite a bit of himself was inherited from his father.
Ji Rui gave him a strange and slightly wary glance, "What do you want to know?"
Da Bao burst out laughing; he thought that the relationship between his parents was already so solid that there was no fear of any external disruption.
But it seed like that wasn’t the case at all. It appeared that no matter how good Mommy was to Daddy, Daddy still lacked a sense of security!
"Don’t worry, I’m not a spy sent by Mommy; I just have so questions I need to ask you."
Ji Rui sized up his son, pondering for a mont.
"So, you have soone you like?"
Da Bao smiled and nodded, "Yeah!"
Just hearing his father ask that confird that his father was indeed hopelessly dull in matters of the heart, completely incomparable to Mommy’s almost wizard-like level.
No wonder he’s still so lacking in security until now.
"To be honest, before I t your Mommy, I had no feelings for won at all. Whether they were pretty or not, I never paid attention. But I can say for sure, with my conditions, there were plenty of pretty won around , but I never looked at any of them seriously. As for your Mommy, at first, I actually quite disliked her."
Ji Rui didn’t hide much. Though he hadn’t ntioned these past stories to many, not ntioning them didn’t an he was afraid to.
On one hand, he and Le Tong were old married couples now, having experienced everything over the years; these old stories wouldn’t affect their relationship. On the other hand, it was a fact. At the beginning, neither of them could stand the other, and they were often at odds.
"Dislike? You disliked Mommy at the start?" Da Bao’s face clearly bore the words "How is that possible?"
For so many years, Da Bao had always believed that Mommy and Daddy had fallen in love at first sight and then separated for a few years due to misunderstandings.
He never expected that they had such a dark history.
Recalling the initial misunderstandings and disturbances with Le Tong, Ji Rui still felt he was quite hateful and deserved a beating at that ti.
"Yeah, your Mommy disliked a lot then too."
Hearing this, Da Bao looked gleeful and seed to have expected it.
"That’s normal, with a personality like yours, it’s a miracle that Mommy fell for you."
Of course, there was a teasing elent to this. In Da Bao’s eyes, although his father was a bit slow, he’s absolutely at the top when it cos to personal charm and capability.
Ji Rui seed used to his son’s teasing, raising his hand to pat Da Bao’s head, "Sure enough, you are your Mommy’s son, always siding with her!"
Da Bao raised an eyebrow, "Of course, it’s strange if I side with you instead of Mommy!"
Ji Rui pretended to sigh helplessly, "You little rascals, all of you have the surna Le?"
Ji Rui was well aware of his rank in the hearts of his three children.
He was never really jealous about this.
Though when Xiaobao was first born, he did feel quite jealous because Le Tong spent most of her ti on Xiaobao.
"Our surna doesn’t matter; what matters is that our hearts all lean toward Mommy."
Da Bao fearlessly declared his loyalty, not afraid that going against Ji Rui would provoke retaliation or suppression from President Ji.
Of course, President Ji wasn’t so petty, especially when it ca to his wife and children—he was always very forgiving.
"Why suddenly probe into this business? Things not going well with the girl you like?"
Da Bao nodded honestly, "Yeah, it’s not going very smoothly, so I wanted to get so tips from you."
Between him and Nuonuo, it wasn’t exactly not smooth. After all, it was always his one-sided feelings; he hadn’t even tried testing her response.
But, more experience couldn’t hurt. Especially, the dating experience from soone like Daddy, who is extraordinarily slow in love, was much more useful than those of the playboys who flit from flower to flower.
"Between your Mommy and , there were many misunderstandings at the start. I couldn’t stand her, and often used my authority to make things difficult for her, which led to her despising intensely later."
Da Bao naturally related his father’s words to the ti when he first t Mommy, "I know, it was when I encouraged you to pursue Mommy, right?"
"Yeah!" ntioning these things brought a bit of a regretful look to Ji Rui.
"Why didn’t you tell then that she was my Mommy, making call her sister for so long?"
This question had been buried in Da Bao’s heart for a long ti. However, he was a smart child, intuitively sensing it might be a trigger that could negatively affect his parents’ relationship, so he never brought it up before.
But now, after so many years, his parents’ marriage was as solid as the Great Wall, rekindling his curiosity about past events.
"Your Mommy and I were full of misunderstandings back then. I couldn’t have disliked her more. Of course, I wouldn’t let you know she was your Mommy!"
This excuse was sothing Ji Rui and Le Tong had co up with over a decade ago, in case Da Bao would inquire about what happened then.
The couple unanimously agreed that Da Bao had suffered too much as a child, and his lineage would remain a secret forever.
"You’re really ruthless, huh!" Da Bao just sighed a bit, not truly intending to resent his father.
After all, ever since he reunited with Mommy at over five years old, he’s been living a life filled with parental love. Digging into past rights and wrongs had no practical significance anymore.
Besides, with matters of the heart, it’s really hard to determine who was right or wrong.
"Actually, I was just too dull, not understanding won’s thoughts."
"So how did you later realize you liked Mommy?"
Da Bao silently wondered if it took his reminder for his father to realize his feelings for Mommy.
"By then, your uncle had already warned , and later you ntioned it, too. I carefully pondered for a long ti and finally realized that I had long been unconsciously enchanted by her. By the ti you reminded , I was already too far gone."
Hearing his father’s confession, Da Bao couldn’t help but roll his eyes dramatically.
