Early the next morning, Ji Rui returned to the office earlier than usual.
Shortly after he sat down, the office door was pushed open.
"Rui, is it true that the baby’s birthday party was canceled?"
Yang Sheng ran over early in the morning to verify the rumor he heard from sowhere.
"Where did you hear that from?"
No matter when, Ji Rui seed always buried in work. Now, as usual, he was focused on the docunts, multitasking to deal with Yang Sheng.
"Yesterday, I had drinks with a big group of friends, and they were all talking about it, especially a few beauties who had prepared gifts to impress the baby. Now that the party is canceled, the beauties are complaining loudly!"
Ji Rui raised his head and glanced at him, "So, you ran over early in the morning to stand up for the beauties?"
Yang Sheng’s gaze fell on Ji Rui’s face and suddenly, like discovering a new world, he leaned over against the table to take a closer look. Then he exclaid, "Oh! My gosh! Where did you go last night, having fun? What kind of beauty is so wild to bite your lip?"
Ji Rui raised his hand to touch his lip bitten by Le Tong, slightly curling his lips, "Not a beauty, a fierce little wildcat!"
Yang Sheng’s face was filled with curiosity and disbelief, "Tsk tsk! Look at that blissful look on your face, afraid you’ve been bewitched by a little wildcat!"
Ji Rui shrugged noncommittally, not sure why but he didn’t want to talk about Le Tong in front of Yang Sheng.
"So, what’s the latest rumor about the baby?" Ji Rui shifted the topic back to the baby.
Yang Sheng sat down on the desk and picked up the spray bottle, giving the cactus a few squirts.
"Rumors outside? There’s talk that you want to take the baby to see his biological mom, so the party was canceled. So say the baby’s mom is back, so you’re planning to celebrate as a family. Others say Mr. Ji spent so long finding the right mommy candidate for the baby, so the party turned into a family gathering... There’s all sorts of gossip, do you want to hear?"
Ji Rui reached over and snatched the cactus back, "I don’t want to hear! You just can’t stand seeing my cactus thriving, right? Why are you drowning it in water!"
Yang Sheng innocently put down the spray bottle, "Rui, don’t think of so narrowly."
Ji Rui rolled his eyes at him, "It’s not what I think, you really are so narrow-minded."
Yang Sheng looked around idly, his gaze landing on a bag of items on the coffee table in the reception area.
Feeling puzzled, he walked over for a closer look, then turned to Ji Rui with a confused expression.
"Rui, why are Tongtong’s things here with you?"
Ji Rui glanced at him indifferently, "How can you be sure this is hers?"
Yang Sheng rolled his eyes, "I brought these specialties back from K City for her, of course I’m sure!"
Ji Rui’s eyes flashed as he squinted at him, "You brought these back specifically for her?"
Yang Sheng t Ji Rui’s scrutinizing eyes with confusion, wondering if it was an illusion that Ji Rui’s gaze seed slightly hostile.
Yang Sheng gently shook his head, telling himself it was indeed an illusion.
"Actually, not really specially. I took half a day off to visit Professor’s ho, and the professors and his wife always treat Tongtong as their little treasure. So they forced to be their labor and lug this big bag of specialties back for Tongtong, exhausting !"
As they talked, ti gradually ticked to 8:30.
"Hey! Why didn’t Tongtong bring you coffee and breakfast today?"
Having been back for so ti, Yang Sheng had basically figured out that Le Tong brought hot coffee in five minutes before work started every day, along with breakfast these days.
Reminded by Yang Sheng, Ji Rui glanced at the clock, "Maybe she’s late for work."
His face was calm and indifferent, but he started worrying internally; could she be angry over last night’s events and quit on impulse?
"Her late for work? No way! You don’t know that Professor Liu taught her several courses over four years; she never missed a class or was late. Not to ntion she treasures her job at the Ji Family and would never slack off. Just a few days ago, she was so sick she could barely walk, yet she still managed to co in early to brew coffee and bring breakfast for you?"
Ji Rui, prompted by Yang Sheng, thought carefully and indeed, as Yang Sheng said, for the past half year, she had consistently arrived early and brewed coffee every day before work.
This had never happened with previous secretaries, even Lin Ling, whom Ji Rui considered a good secretary, only ca on ti and brewed coffee during work hours.
Probably only she, among major companies, would take private ti to brew a pot of coffee for her boss every day.
Ji Rui had never considered this before, but now he realized these fifteen minutes each day, if compensated normally, would allow Le Tong to apply for ten more days off.
She had never brought this issue up with him.
Ji Rui always despised bosses or leaders who exploited employees, but unknowingly, he too had exploited Le Tong’s work ti and energy.
"Maybe she’s busy today; the docunts given to her yesterday weren’t reviewed yet."
Ji Rui preferred to think this was Le Tong’s reason for not showing up today, rather than considering she might really quit because of him.
But his reluctance to consider it doesn’t an it wouldn’t happen.
Ten minutes later, Le Tong knocked and entered, empty-handed without coffee or breakfast.
Only holding a resignation letter.
"What’s this?"
Ji Rui pretended not to recognize the writing, tossing the resignation letter face down on the desk.
"A resignation letter! I’m quitting, find soone better!"
Le Tong’s complexion was poor, with dark circles worse than days ago just faded after two days.
"Resign? No way!"
Ji Rui picked up the resignation letter, tore it up without glancing, easily splitting the decision Le Tong pondered bitterly for a night.
Le Tong’s face darkened, "Saying no is pointless, anyway, I don’t want to work anymore! Whether you approve or not, I’m leaving!"
Le Tong was resolved, no longer tempted by high salaries, valuing sothing more precious than money.
"Pointless? Fine, you can leave once you pay a penalty at the finance departnt today!" Ji Rui suddenly generously replied.
Over ten minutes later, Le Tong stood before Aunt Huang exclaiming loudly, "What, three million?"
