Now reading: Chapter 185: Cadre 6 Magivore (Part 1) from Treatise Of A Failed Knight, a Fantasy novel by Magecrafter.

Before is an impossible entity.

It stands majestically at sixty ters in height, with three ominously raised heads that possess countless eyes on each of them.

The beast has crimson red fur, with six twisted horns that rise sharply and pierce the sky on each head. All of its eyes are dark purple, and their countless number stare in every direction, covering every single blind spot it is ant to have.

Then, there are the stars that shine brightly on its fur, each of them glistening with great beauty but also bearing terrifying power.

A great chill fills the air the mont it appears, and even now I tremble to my core.

Such a grand creature... this imnse power...

I have only ever seen it recorded in this world’s myths and legends.

Cadre 6 Magivore—Crimson Direwolf Emperor!

’So this was her trump card...’ Beads of sweat form on my face as I feel my body turn frigid at the presence of this colossal and overwhelming monster before .

How...

How exactly am I supposed to beat sothing like this?

In my mind, I always assud that Ciel would overwhelm with numbers, likely using the two remaining Direwolf Kings to lead her army. But how is this possible? She actually had a far stronger beast on a leash!

’Her preparations are out of this world!’ I shudder while gulping loudly. ’I underestimated her yet again!’

She likely kept herself and the creature hidden until I appeared inside the Sanctuary because of my Clairvoyance. She wanted to lure in by giving a sliver of hope that I could win against her, only revealing this monstrosity once I had sunken deep enough into the muck.

’But there’s no need to despair so quickly...’ My eye flashes with brilliance as I reveal my own hidden card from beneath my cloak.

The golden blade I mysteriously had in my possession after I regained consciousness.

—Golden Dawn!

SHIIIIINNGGGG!!!

The blade shines a magnificent, warm light that suppresses and eventually disperses the overpowering chill in the air. For a mont, the sky is painted with golden lustre, and an invigorating feeling courses through .

I feel a strong resonance with the blade, almost as if I have always had it with .

Plus, I feel the surge of sothing else.

Hope!

Strong hope rises from my bowels, rapidly spreading through my body.

’I can do this!’

My eye widens as I glare at the monstrosity that stands several ters from .

Devastation serves as the gap between us, but I remain calm and tightly clench my blade, imrsing myself in the hopeful sensation I am experiencing right now.

This beast is certainly powerful.

It is Cadre 6.

That dwells beyond the realm of human ability.

However, I am not entirely powerless. Although I am one man, I am not a re human, but a Leviathan. Apart from all the Potions and Armants currently in my possession, I also happen to wield a weapon that has the sa transcendent quality.

A Divine Relic!

’Right now... I have the power to slay this Crimson Direwolf Emperor!’

With this thought continuously surging in my head, I steel my mind and ready my body to attack.

Then—

WHOOSH!

’H-huh—?’ For a split mont, I feel an invisible pressure.

My life flashes before my eyes.

Every ounce of my instincts screams at to do one thing.

RUN!

I imdiately activate Frontflow, surging as high as I can into the sky while also flying as far away as I possibly can from my position.

Even then... I am only barely able to escape the horror that follows.

BAM!

The ground around shatters like brittle glass as the Crimson Direwolf Emperor lands on the ground after leaping from its previous position. It must have charged forward to attack , but I couldn’t even perceive it until I activated Frontflow.

And even with Frontflow, I am not much faster than the creature.

No...

This monster and I are equally matched in speed!

This is a first for .

I am sixty tis faster than the world in Frontflow, yet the Crimson Direwolf is matching this elevated state of mine.

What does that say about its true speed?!

’Frontflow doesn’t last forever!’ Beads of sweat form on my face as I tremble to my bones. ’What am I going to do once this Conception runs out?’

Right as I am distracted by these thoughts, a sharp crimson light shines from beneath , and I am drawn towards one of the heads of the Crimson Direwolf Emperor.

More specifically... its mouth.

Its maw is wide open, and a concentrated brilliance is born from within it.

Within seconds, everything coalesces to form a solid crimson ball.

Then, at the next second, the orb explodes.

And from it erges an overwhelming crimson ray that is sent charging towards with the rumbling of thunder.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMM!!!

My body jolts to life as I control my Obsidian Steed to flee, quickly rushing away from our position as this ray of bright red destruction consus everything in its path. Even the dust is eviscerated, completely torn to unrecognizable shreds by this radiation.

It quickly becos clear to that I won’t survive if even a fraction of this ray lands on my body.

Even as I maintain my distance, the heat is enough to sear my flesh.

It’s too overpowering!

While I am still distracted by this single ray, yet another head opens its mouth and fires another shot at . The bright crimson light is concentrated this ti, causing its speed to nearly double and its intensity to climb to an unbelievable extent.

’Shit!’

Once again, I evade the assault, albeit barely.

’If I had moved any slower...’ My thoughts echo in a panic with my body feeling the climbing temperature as I struggle to even see in this red-painted world.

This is hard!

Right now, I have no clue what other abilities this Crimson Direwolf Emperor possesses.

However, this crimson ray is enough to overwhelm .

It has stalemated with its speed, and its strength definitely outmatches mine. The Crimson Ray is definitely one of many abilities it possesses, which ans my current struggles are only about to increase in magnitude.

’When will I have the chance to use Golden Dawn?’

As this question rapidly echoes in my mind, another consideration seeps in with more urgency.

’My Conception is about to run out... damnit!’ My eye widens as I witness the third head pry its massive mouth open.

It’s clear what is about to happen.

’But I won’t be fast enough to dodge this ti!’

The only thing I can do is rely on the Divine Relic in my hand to protect .

Using the last second I have in Frontflow to raise my blade and send the order to the weapon, I shut my eyes and entrust my life to the blade. The resonance I feel within my soul tells my faith is not misplaced, but how can I be so sure?

If I am wrong about this weapon, I’ll be dead before I even know what happened.

But—

’If I live, then I’ll finally be able to render my counterattack!’

With no other choice but to rely on the mysterious golden blade, Frontflow ends, and the world is once again painted in overwhelming crimson light.

Heat courses through my entire body.

Then, everything turns dark.
