Chapter 11 — Lantern DistrictSun City — Western Lantern District
Rain began falling before sunset.
Not heavy.
Just enough to make the streets colder and quieter than usual.
The western lantern district normally remained crowded during evenings because of restaurants and tea houses nearby.
Tonight—
half the buildings already closed early.
Xu Yuan walked beneath a wooden umbrella beside Xia Yu while several Xu Family guards investigated nearby streets ahead of them.
Lin Hao followed closely behind looking miserable.
"I hate everything about this situation."
Xu Yuan looked sideways.
"You say that every chapter now."
"Because every chapter keeps getting worse!"
"That's fair."
The corpse discovered earlier still remained inside a sealed building near the end of the district.
Several city cultivators guarded the entrance seriously.
Even Liu Feng stood nearby now alongside several Liu Family disciples.
The mont he noticed Xia Yu arriving—
his expression subtly changed again.
Xu Yuan imdiately sighed internally.
Troubleso people truly possessed excellent timing.
Third Elder Xu Jian stood near the entrance while speaking with city guards.
When he noticed Xu Yuan approaching—
his eyebrows instantly twitched.
"Why are you here?"
Xu Yuan answered honestly.
"Curiosity."
"That's exactly the problem."
Several guards eventually moved aside allowing the elders and younger cultivators inside.
The room imdiately felt cold.
Not naturally cold.
Heavy.
Uncomfortable.
At the center of the room—
another dried corpse remained seated against the wall.
Eyes wide open.
Expression terrified.
Exactly the sa as before.
Rainwater quietly dripped outside while silence filled the building.
Liu Feng frowned deeply.
"No spiritual battle marks again."
One city cultivator nodded grimly.
"Almost like the victim never resisted."
Xu Yuan quietly observed the room surroundings.
Broken lantern pieces scattered across the floor.
A fallen chair.
And—
several strange black marks near the ceiling.
Xia Yu suddenly narrowed her eyes slightly.
"Formation residue."
Everyone imdiately looked toward her.
One elder frowned.
"You can identify it?"
Xia Yu walked closer toward the ceiling calmly.
"Ancient type."
"Not modern formations."
Several cultivators instantly beca serious afterward.
Ancient formations usually ant ruins.
Or worse.
Xu Yuan slowly looked toward the black marks thoughtfully.
Sothing about them felt strangely familiar.
Not visually.
Instinctively.
Like his body unconsciously recognized sothing his mind did not.
Suddenly—
the lantern flas throughout the room flickered violently.
Everyone instantly beca alert.
Then—
BOOM!
A loud sound echoed from outside the building.
Several guards shouted imdiately afterward.
"Movent on the rooftops!"
The entire room exploded into motion instantly.
Xu Yuan rushed outside alongside the others.
Rain continued falling across the dark streets while distant guards pointed toward moving shadows above the rooftops.
Fast.
Too fast for normal civilians.
"There!" soone shouted.
For one brief second—
Xu Yuan saw it clearly.
A thin dark figure moving across the rooftops unnaturally fast.
And beneath the rain—
two dim red lights stared backward briefly.
Eyes.
Then the figure vanished instantly into darkness.
Several cultivators imdiately chased after it.
Liu Feng included.
Spiritual energy erupted across the rooftops as multiple figures disappeared into the rainy night.
Lin Hao looked pale.
"…Please tell we're going ho now."
Unfortunately—
before anyone could answer—
Xu Yuan suddenly froze.
That strange cold sensation inside his chest returned again.
Stronger this ti.
Much stronger.
At the sa mont—
far beneath the eastern mountains—
inside endless underground darkness—
sothing ancient slowly opened countless crimson eyes.
