Jocelyn locked eyes with him for a few seconds, then Ian Shelby refocused his gaze and drove on seriously.
The girl snapped out of it and then worried about Cecilia Dunn—this silly girl! She’s really never been a worry-free person! Not at all like an adult!
"Why is she so troubled?" Ian Shelby, being a doctor, asked calmly, "Is she suffering from depression? What’s her usual state of mind?"
If she gets rescued, Ian felt she might need psychological counseling.
"Her boyfriend screwed her over, she couldn’t think straight for a mont and ran into a dead end," Jocelyn sighed and said truthfully, "They’ve been together since high school, he’s been her whole youth."
At tis, Jocelyn could understand Cecilia’s feelings, but torturing oneself is not the solution; dealing with the scumbag would be more satisfying.
Ian understood—it was a case of being troubled by love.
The car was speeding; rescuing her was a priority!
In just a few minutes, the car stopped at the location she ntioned, where there was a row of ladders, after turning right, and to the left was a high river bank.
Jocelyn quickly unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car.
Ian followed suit.
Together, they ran up the stone stairs.
A row of large, Z-shaped stone stairs, sowhat vertical, a bit steep.
By the ti Jocelyn reached the last few steps, her legs were sore; when she stepped on the final step, gasping for breath, she hadn’t even caught her breath when she saw the figure leaping towards the river in the distance!
"Cecilia Dunn!!" She sprinted over desperately, "Don’t jump!!"
Ian also charged forward, into the urgent monts ahead, along with Jocelyn’s frantic screams!
He reacted swiftly, long legs rushing forward! At the speed of a hundred-ter sprint!
Just as Cecilia heard the shouting and looked over, Ian bypassed Jocelyn and reached her, grabbing her arm and pulling her back down!
"Ah!" Cecilia barely had ti to react, but she was already safe.
Jocelyn rushed over, gasping and yanked her arm to stabilize her!
Smack—!
She raised her hand and slapped her face!
The slap knocked Cecilia’s face to the side, made her see stars, and made her head dizzy!
This also shocked Ian Shelby!
Then ca Jocelyn’s furious scolding—
"Cecilia Dunn! Can’t you show so resolve?!"
"Even if soone should die, it should be Howard Sawyer! Why should you go die?! What about your parents if you die?!"
"Do you know how worried your parents are about you?! I got a call from them first thing this morning! They’re crying their hearts out! What will they do if you die?! You’re so heartless, I’ll slap you to death!"
While scolding, Jocelyn raised her hand again, unable to control her explosive temper!
Ian quickly grasped her wrist, "Calm down!"
Cecilia looked very disheveled, her face tear-stained, holding her swollen cheek, the river wind ssing her hair, her mind seed sowhat dazed, like an eggplant hit by frost.
Facing her best friend’s questioning, Cecilia was speechless but sowhat sobered.
Jocelyn glanced at Ian and lowered her hand.
She took a deep breath and took out her phone to dial Cecilia’s mom’s number, "Auntie, I’ve found Cecilia, don’t worry, she’s fine."
"Really?! That’s great! Thank you so much! Where are you?" The middle-aged woman on the phone cried with joy.
"I’ll hang up now," Jocelyn said, "I’ll make sure she’s safely in your hands!"
Hanging up the phone, Jocelyn hauled Cecilia’s arm, "Let’s go!"
"..." The girl didn’t resist; she was too sad, felt her heart tearing, every second of being alive was intensely painful, she felt like a walking corpse.
In Ian’s eyes, Jocelyn appeared particularly rough at this mont, dragging her best friend down the steps!
