Janelle Mills watched the anxious figure, a certain bittersweet emotion surging in her heart, growing more pronounced with every breath.
Perhaps because she wasn’t familiar with Jocelyn Morgan, compared to Trevor’s tension, Janelle seed much calr, though it wasn’t that she wasn’t worried.
Trevor ran and stopped, looked around, not sparing any store!
The usually calm him was very anxious at this mont! This rarely happened.
Janelle saw his furrowed brow, saw him almost miss a step on the stairs, saw him wishing he could dig three feet into the ground to find her.
She saw his anxiety and urgency, just like Ian Shelby.
Following him, Janelle gathered her thoughts, keeping up close behind Trevor, sotis jogging, sotis looking around, helping him search.
Would Trevor spare her a glance only after they found Jocelyn and returned her safe and sound to Dr. Shelby?
Not far behind, a police officer followed, starting to visit door to door, leaving no suspicious person unchecked.
The entire small town was almost undergoing a complete investigation.
Every second and every minute was excruciating for Ian Shelby, perhaps also for Trevor.
"Oh no."
Janelle Mills was so rushed on the stairs that she missed a step and twisted her ankle! In that second, the pain was excruciating.
Instinctively, she reached out to support herself against the bluestone wall on the left, getting her hand covered with moss - sticky, slippery, and emitting a faint stench, even staining her sleeve.
When Janelle looked up, she found Trevor had run far ahead. She quickly straightened up and headed towards a water tap not far in front.
Quickly rinsing her hands, she endured the foot pain and stepped forward.
Losing soone out of the blue in broad daylight, coupled with those ghost stories ringing in her ears - of course, she was still scared, even though there were other passersby around.
But, only beside Trevor did she feel safe, unafraid even of life and death.
"Jocelyn! Jocelyn Morgan!!"
Trevor searched, cupping his hands to his mouth, loudly calling her na, and inadvertently saw Janelle Mills walking over from a distance.
He stared at her unsteady gait, pausing for a mont, "Why are you here?" He lowered his hands from his mouth and walked towards her.
What?
Had he never noticed her presence all along?
Hadn’t she followed him the whole way??
"What happened to your foot?" Trevor squatted in front of her, reaching out to support her injured ankle, looking up and asking, "Did you twist it?"
Janelle looked down at him blankly, a little surprised, "No, I’m fine." She felt awkward and a little disappointed.
So had he really not seen her twist her ankle just now?
She had even exclaid, and he was not far in front at that ti. Clearly, his mind was entirely on Jocelyn Morgan.
Hearing her say she was fine, Trevor got up, patted her shoulder, then shifted his gaze and started walking forward, gradually picking up his pace, continuing to search for Jocelyn Morgan.
Janelle just watched that back, realizing perhaps, he liked Jocelyn Morgan.
Feeling a sense of loss, yet still attached to him, Janelle also moved forward, heavy-hearted, following behind Trevor.
The small town wasn’t big, with crisscrossing alleys.
Twenty minutes later, at the end of an alley, Trevor and Ian Shelby t, both returning empty-handed, the disappointnt and anxiety written across their faces.
At this mont, two policen also arrived, one of them said, "Mr. Shelby, could you take us to the spot she disappeared again? We’ll inspect it once more carefully."
Because everyone had practically searched the entire town and still found nothing.
