"President Dalton," ca the voice of Trevor.
David Dalton toyed with the Jade Pendant, furrowing his brow with confusion, and asked, "Since Justin Kingston is investigating the whereabouts of this half Jade Pendant and he’s already seen it, why hasn’t there been any movent these days?"
"I find that very strange too," Trevor replied thoughtfully. "We’ve been keeping an eye on him discreetly, and anything unusual will be reported back to you imdiately."
"What do you think Justin is thinking?" David Dalton questioned. "Why is he looking for the Jade Pendant? Does he believe that rumor going around?"
"But what does the rumor have to do with the Jade Pendant?" Trevor analyzed. "With Justin’s intelligence, he wouldn’t be foolish enough to believe the Jade Pendant is the key to the treasure trove."
David Dalton squinted his eyes. "Regardless of what he’s thinking, we must stay vigilant. More and more people are watching the Dalton family and the treasure."
"Yes."
David Dalton hung up the call, the night’s shadows engulfing his silhouette as they seeped through the window. As the chairman of The Dalton Group, he was deeply respected.
While he shone brightly during the day, he would return ho with a tinge of unresolvable worries.
"Dad, food... food is ready, shall we eat?" His 12-year-old simple-minded son peeked timidly from the doorway.
David Dalton put away the Jade Pendant, rose, and walked toward him. "Ethan, did you learn any words today?" He bent at the doorway, picking up his son, and his furrowed brow relaxed.
"Uh-huh, today I learned..." The simple-minded son thought for a long ti while clinging to his father, until they were downstairs. "I learned the word ’big’! A very big ’big’!"
As David Dalton was about to praise his son, he saw a stranger woman standing in the living room downstairs with his wife and daughter.
"David," his wife, Joan Graham, spoke warmly. "Aunt Zhou went back ho to take care of her daughter in confinent. I hired a new housekeeper from the agency."
"Hello, Mr. Dalton. You can call Anthea." The woman, who appeared to be in her fifties, spoke in a modest and composed manner, dressed plainly but neatly. "I have thirty years of housekeeping experience; I’m skilled in laundry, cooking, and cleaning."
David Dalton put his son down and set his gaze on the new woman, then started walking downstairs.
With his acute sense honed from years of navigating the business arena, he didn’t believe tonight’s scene was just an ordinary hiring.
"Alright," he said with a slight smile, showing no airs of the master of the house. "Hello, Anthea. We’ll rely on you for this household from now on."
"It’s my duty. If there’s any oversight, please point it out, and I’ll correct it imdiately."
After dinner.
David Dalton saw Anthea diligently cleaning.
After so thought, he spoke calmly, "Anthea."
"Mr. Dalton," the middle-aged woman paused her work and looked up at him.
"Later, please co upstairs and help tidy up the study. Don’t move the books on the shelves; just organize the items on the desk and dust it a bit."
He specifically instructed, "Be careful when cleaning the guzheng in the corner. It mustn’t collect dust or be damaged."
"Yes, Mr. Dalton."
Standing by the door, Sean Dalton watched her father’s back as he walked upstairs, listening to his instructions to Anthea regarding the guzheng. She wasn’t too pleased.
After all these years, has he still not let go?
Once David Dalton went upstairs and entered the study, the first thing he did was take the Jade Pendant out from the drawer and place it on the desk.
Then he glanced at the cara hidden in the lamp, and strode out of the study.
Indeed, he suspected that Anthea was Justin Kingston’s person, sent to steal the Jade Pendant.
With Justin’s intelligence, he wouldn’t easily forget the appearance of the Jade Pendant that day.
Perhaps the quiet these days is because he’s making a fake Jade Pendant, waiting to switch it!
