By December, Jennifer’s business ventures were showing promising growth. Her Knight-Lawrence Cups line, featured prominently on Vine, had exploded in popularity thanks to the couple’s combined star power. But success brought its own challenges.
Jennifer found herself overwheld by demand, struggling with inventory managent and financial complexities.
Lucas watched her learning curve with patient understanding, guiding her through the business basics like a parent teaching a child to ride a bike.
The real challenge, however, ca from competitors. Threatened by the success of her cups and fashion lines, they launched calculated attacks on both Jennifer and Lucas’s public image.
Knowing their products’ success relied heavily on their celebrity status, these rivals spread baseless rumors, trying to tarnish their reputation and hurt sales.
One evening, Lucas found Jennifer slumped on his couch, scrolling through another wave of negative comnts.
"I can’t stand seeing them drag you into this," she said, her voice tight with frustration. "Maybe I should just stick to acting."
"Hey," Lucas sat beside her, gently taking her phone away. "This is standard business warfare - competitors using astroturfing and sock puppet accounts to create artificial outrage. It’s annoying, but predictable." He squeezed her hand. "If you want, I can have my PR team and marketing connections handle all this. You deserve a break."
Jennifer sighed heavily. "I know it’s just competitor tactics, but it feels so dirty. And yeah, a break sounds really good right now."
Lucas’s face brightened. "Perfect timing then. Kobe just announced his farewell tour, and the Lakers are playing the Timberwolves in Minnesota in a few days. Want to go?"
"Basketball?" Jennifer perked up imdiately. "God, yes. I’ve been obsessed with basketball since I was a kid in Kentucky. Used to play on the boys’ team and everything." Her eyes lit up with genuine excitent. "My brothers would never let live it down if I missed Kobe’s farewell tour."
The transformation in her energy was imdiate - from stressed entrepreneur back to the basketball-loving Kentucky girl who’d never lost her passion for the ga.

The Target Center in Minneapolis was filling up with basketball fans, predominantly in Timberwolves colors, when an unexpected stir rippled through the arriving crowd. Lucas and Jennifer erged from their black SUV, both wearing Lakers caps and face masks, but sohow managing to stand out even more because of it.
Their attempt at staying low-key was imdiately undermined by several factors: the professional security detail moving in formation around them, Jennifer’s distinctive height and build, and most notably, Lucas’s unmistakable golden hair with its characteristic darker undertones catching the arena lights. His blue eyes, visible above his mask, sealed the recognition.
"Oh my God, is that Lucas Knight?" a girl squealed, starting a chain reaction. Within seconds, a crowd began forming.
"Lucas! Lucas!" Several male fans started shouting, while others rushed forward with phones ready. Jennifer, despite her own star status, found herself in the unusual position of being sowhat overshadowed – though she still drew plenty of attention.
"Wait, guys, rember that YouTube prank?" soone in the crowd called out. "The one with the fake Lucas at the New York mall?"
"Nah, this is real – look, that’s definitely Jennifer Lawrence with him!" ca the reply.
The YouTuber prank from weeks earlier had been cleverly executed. They’d found soone with just a passing resemblance to Lucas - mainly the golden hair and blue eyes - and dressed him in Lucas’s signature public appearance style: face mask and cap.
The disguise had worked perfectly because that’s exactly how Lucas typically appeared in public, making the subtle differences in the impersonator’s features impossible to detect. The video of this fake Lucas touring a New York mall with pretend security guards had gone viral, racking up millions of views.
Now, that viral video was causing so fans to hesitate, though plenty still sward forward for autographs and photos. After all, Lucas’s popularity in the US had surpassed even Justin Bieber’s, making such pranks an increasingly common occurrence.
"Is this another YouTube prank? Where’s the hidden cara?" a young man in a Timberwolves jersey called out skeptically.
Lucas looked puzzled for a mont before breaking into an amused smile. "Cara? Well," he gestured at the forest of phones pointed their way, "take your pick."
The response drew laughs from the crowd, and Lucas continued to joke with the fans, even playfully teasing his serious-faced security team. "These guys look more intimidating than they are," he stage-whispered to so kids, making them giggle while his guards maintained their professional composure.
Eventually, Lucas and Jennifer were escorted to their courtside seats, pri spots near the Lakers bench. The kind of seats reserved for A-list celebrities - and tonight, they certainly qualified.
The jumbotron overhead suddenly cut to Lucas, his masked face appearing on the massive screen. He offered a casual wave, drawing cheers from the crowd.
"And we’ve got so serious star power courtside tonight, folks," one comntator announced excitedly. "Lucas Knight and Jennifer Lawrence are in attendance for Kobe’s farewell tour stop in Minnesota."
"Now that’s how you know this ga is special," his co-comntator added.
The constant cara attention on Lucas sparked an imdiate social dia frenzy. #LucasNBA started trending as viewers tuned in, though so remained skeptical.
"Another YouTuber probably fooled the NBA this ti 😂"
"Watch this be another prank and end up on YouTube tomorrow 💀"
As the teams took the court and the ga began, Jennifer noticed Lucas’s intense focus on one player in particular.
"Are you a Kobe fan?" she asked, watching his reaction to every play.
"Yeah," Lucas nodded, drinking in every mont. In his previous life, he’d never had the chance to see Kobe play in person. This was different - this was real.
Over on the Lakers bench, a different kind of entertainnt was unfolding. Nick Young kept stealing glances at their celebrity visitors.
"Man, is that really Lucas though?" Young whispered to his teammates. "I don’t wanna look stupid asking for an autograph if it’s another prank."
Julius laughed. "Your mom still collecting Lucas autographs, Swaggy?"
"Hey, she’s a huge fan!" Young protested. "Plus, I kind of want one too..."
Brandon shook his head. "Just wait till halfti, let soone else approach first. If it’s really him, you’ll know."
"Yeah, let Ryan Kelly be the test dummy," Sacre grinned. "He’s got that Disney face, won’t look as embarrassing if it’s fake."
"I heard that," Kelly called from further down the bench, but he was smiling too.
During tiouts, both teams kept stealing glances at the masked celebrities courtside, though they tried to maintain their focus on their coaches’ instructions.
The real surprise ca during a longer break when Kobe Bryant approached their seats, his daughter Gianna by his side. She’d been watching the ga from nearby, as she often did.
"Mind if I ask if you’re the real Lucas Knight?" Kobe said with a warm smile. "My daughter here might never forgive if I don’t check. Though you might need to prove it by taking off that mask."
Lucas smiled beneath his mask, while Jennifer watched the interaction with fascination. It wasn’t every day that Kobe Bryant himself ca to verify your identity.
"Well, can’t have the Black Mamba doubting ," Lucas responded with a characteristic warmth in his voice.
Gianna’s eyes lit up imdiately. "That’s definitely him, Dad! I’d know his voice anywhere!"
Lucas chuckled and lowered his mask, causing an imdiate stir in the arena. The cara operators quickly zood in on the interaction, broadcasting it on the jumbotron.
"Looks like Kobe might have fallen for another YouTube prank, folks!" one comntator joked, then stopped abruptly. "Wait... that actually IS Lucas Knight!"
The revelation sent waves through the crowd and social dia. Viewers who had been confidently declaring it another prank suddenly went silent.
"Holy shit, it really is him!"
"We thought it was fake 💀"
"LUCAS KNIGHT AT THE LAKERS GA THIS IS NOT A DRILL"
The online skeptics had to eat their words - this was no prank, but the real Lucas Knight attending Kobe’s farewell tour.
"Appreciate you coming out to support the farewell tour, man. ans a lot." Kobe’s voice carried that distinctive intensity, even in casual conversation, as he stepped forward to embrace Lucas.
"My bad about the sweat," Kobe said with his characteristic half-smile.
Lucas chuckled, "Hey, it’s the Black Mamba’s sweat - it’s an honor."
Kobe turned to Jennifer, his deanor professional but friendly. "Jennifer Lawrence, right? Good to have you both here."
Jennifer nodded, shaking his hand with a warm smile.
Gianna, showing the sa focused enthusiasm her father was known for, held out her program. "Could I get your autograph, Lucas?"
After Lucas and Jennifer signed for Gianna and Kobe, Lucas pulled out his Lakers cap, speaking with genuine respect. "Think I could get the Mamba’s signature?"
"No doubt," Kobe responded with that familiar competitive glint in his eye, taking the pen to sign both Lucas’s cap and shirt.
The surrounding fans watched the exchange longingly, but the mont passed as Kobe returned to the bench, his ga face already back on. Lucas turned back to his conversation with Jennifer while the caras continued to split their attention between the ga and the celebrity couple.
Social dia lit up:
"Is this an NBA ga or the Lucas Knight Show? 😂"
"Cara guy really said forget basketball 💀"
"Even the Mamba’s getting autographs now!"
Lucas watched intently as Kobe dominated the fourth quarter, his signature fadeaway finding the net ti after ti. After a particularly impressive three-pointer, Kobe pointed skyward, then gestured toward Lucas - a mont that would be replayed on sports shows for days.
When the final buzzer sounded, Lucas found himself lingering, hoping for another chance to talk with Kobe. His heart tightened watching Gianna excitedly discussing the ga’s highlights with her father. The sight stirred mories from his previous life - mories of headlines he never wanted to see repeated in this tiline.
"Great ga," Lucas said as Kobe approached. "Think we could grab dinner soti? Would love to hear your thoughts about life after basketball."
Sothing in Lucas’s tone must have resonated with Kobe, who studied him for a mont before nodding. "Always good to plan ahead," he said, pulling out his phone to exchange numbers. "Gigi, you good with having Lucas over for dinner soti?"
"Yes!" Gianna bead, completely unaware of how desperately Lucas wanted to protect the future she deserved to have.
As Lucas watched them leave the arena together, he felt a determination.
He wasn’t just seeking friendship with Kobe out of admiration. This was different - a desperate hope that sohow, through their connection, he might be able to subtly influence events enough to prevent that fateful day from repeating itself.
So changes were too important not to try for.
