Outside the upscale restaurant, several paparazzi stood crouched with long-lens digital caras aid at the third-floor window. The glass walls, transparent and uncurtained, gave them a perfect vantage point.
One of the paparazzi grinned, adjusting his zoom lens. "Bingo. That room’s got full glass walls. And would you look at that—Lucas is right there."
"Finally, so luck," another muttered, snapping photos. "We can’t hear what they’re saying, but at least we’ve got visuals."
"Who cares what they’re saying?" a third chuckled, eyes glued to his viewfinder. "Their lips are moving. That’s enough. People online will make up their own stories."
One paparazzo leaned against a pole, squinting. "Bet you anything he’s talking about the family ss. He probably needed emotional support and called up his Modern Family castmates."
"Totally. That show launched his career," another chid in. "Makes sense he’d turn to the people who feel like a second family."
"I can already see the headlines," said one with a smirk. "Lucas Knight finds comfort in sitcom co-stars during family fallout."
Unbeknownst to them, their assumptions were completely off.
Inside, the dinner was anything but emotional venting.
It was a lively, laughter-filled reunion—set up by the network to celebrate Lucas’s return to Modern Family for a special guest arc.
Ty Burrell was mid-chew, his fork still hovering in the air as he eyed Lucas with faux suspicion. "Okay, seriously... how are you not aging? You look better than the last ti I saw you."
Lucas laughed. "You say that like I was ugly before."
"No," Ty grinned, pointing his fork at him. "But it’s like you reversed ti. What are you using—vampire blood? A deal with the devil?"
Julie Bowen jumped in. "Even if he gave you his secret, Ty, it wouldn’t help. You still look like a retired tennis coach."
Ty gasped, mock-offended. "Excuse ! I’m a solid late twenties if you squint hard enough."
Everyone burst into laughter. Sarah Hyland leaned in, shaking her head. "You’ll always be our favorite TV dad, Ty."
Lucas smiled warmly, his voice softer now. "Honestly? You don’t need beauty secrets. You’re still as sharp and funny as ever. That kind of energy? Way more important than looks."
The table fell quiet for a beat, touched by the comnt.
Ty placed a hand to his heart, dramatically. "Thank you. I try to stay happy—even when life gets weird. I guess... that’s my secret."
"Maybe that’s the real anti-aging serum," Lucas replied. "Joy."
The group clinked glasses together.
After clinking their glasses together, they each took a sip of wine. The mood remained light as they continued reminiscing and catching up. Sofia turned to Lucas, smiling brightly.
"You rember that trip we all took to Napa after season five? God, we were such a chaotic group."
Lucas chuckled. "How could I forget? You almost got us kicked out of that winery."
Sofia laughed. "They should’ve thanked for making it livelier."
Just then, Sarah leaned forward, twirling her glass nervously between her fingers. "Okay, this is embarrassing... but I never told you this, Lucas."
Everyone turned to her curiously.
"I, uh... used to have a crush on you back then."
There was a collective ripple of surprise around the table. Even Sofia blinked. "Wait—what? Really? You never said anything!"
Julie gave Sarah a knowing look. "Honestly, I’m not shocked. I had a hunch."
Lucas looked just as caught off guard but recovered quickly, flashing a playful smirk. "What about now?"
Sarah held his gaze for a mont before exhaling and smiling. "Still kind of do, but... I don’t think about it anymore. You’re engaged to Jennifer now. I’ve moved on."
Lucas smiled warmly. "Well, I’m honored. That ans a lot."
Though she laughed it off with the others, deep down, Sarah felt the tiniest pang of regret. ’Maybe if I said sothing earlier...’
To shift the mood, Sofia clapped her hands. "Alright, enough heartbreak. Let’s talk about the tis we really ssed up behind the scenes."
Laughter bubbled around the table again as they dove into hilarious stories from the Modern Family set—monts when Lucas wasn’t there, or when pranks went too far.
Across the table, Christopher and Steven shared a glance.
Ty, catching their exchange, leaned in quietly. "You guys thinking what I’m thinking?"
They both nodded subtly. Earlier that day, they had agreed to check in on Lucas—to talk about his family’s scandal, the arrest, the robbery. It was heavy stuff, and they felt he shouldn’t face it alone.
But now, seeing Lucas genuinely laughing and bonding with the people who watched him grow up, they hesitated.
Ty whispered, "Maybe we don’t bring it up tonight. He’s smiling... and it’s real. No point digging up wounds if he’s finally breathing easy."
Christopher glanced at Lucas, then nodded. "Agreed. He deserves a night without the storm."
Steven added, "Yeah. As a writer, I can tell... this scene doesn’t need drama. Let him have his peace."

Ti flew by. Before Lucas or anyone else realized it, two hours had passed, and the night had deepened. It was already 10 PM.
Outside the restaurant, the paparazzi were starting to feel the weight of the evening. Their shoulders slumped, fingers sore from hours of holding their caras. Another hour slipped by—11 PM.
"Three hours already? Looks like Lucas is really pouring his heart out," one paparazzo murmured, adjusting his lens.
"Yeah, I’ve been waiting for a breakdown. Maybe so tears," another said half-jokingly.
But one of them pointed at his zood-in screen. "He doesn’t look upset at all. If anything, he’s smiling. Laughing, even."
"Nah, I think the cast is just cheering him up," soone replied. "That’s what friends are for, right? They’re probably cracking jokes just to keep his spirits up."
"Especially Ty—dude’s face alone is cody gold," another added with a low chuckle.
Despite the fatigue, a few of them laughed softly under their breath. Even they could appreciate the camaraderie happening behind the glass.
anwhile, inside, the restaurant had officially closed to the public, but continued serving Lucas and the Modern Family cast. It was a private affair, and the staff, knowing they were hosting stars, stayed courteous and accommodating.
Finally, after four long hours, and a couple glasses of wine too many, Lucas stood from the table, slightly buzzed. He hugged his old castmates one by one, sharing smiles and goodbyes before heading toward the exit.
The mont he stepped out, the paparazzi stirred like owls in the dark. Caras flashed silently in the distance as Lucas got into the car.
"Thank God," one of them muttered. "I can finally sleep tonight."
Inside the car, Lucas let himself sink into the plush seat, his eyes already heavy. The weight of laughter and warmth finally taking its toll.
Up front, his longti driver Shawn glanced at him through the rearview mirror. "He really had a good ti tonight," he said quietly. "It’s been a while since I’ve seen him stay out this long."
Jack, one of Lucas’s bodyguards, nodded from the passenger seat. "Yeah. Guess he just needed to breathe a little. No caras in his face. No headlines. Just good people and real friends."
Simon leaned back and added, "He needed that escape... even if just for one night."
As the car rolled through the quiet streets of Los Angeles, Lucas had already drifted off, peaceful at last.
---
The next day, Lucas woke up around 10 a.m. After a warm shower and a simple breakfast of eggs and toast, he checked his schedule. Today was stacked — he had a creative eting with Christopher and Steven to discuss the upcoming Modern Family episode centered on his character, Dylan.
Dressed in a crisp designer jacket, slim jeans, and white rubber-soled sneakers, he hopped into his car with Shawn behind the wheel, and Jack and Simon flanking as always.
Later, they arrived at the studio building. After a few greetings from familiar staff, Lucas was escorted upstairs to the writers’ room.
Christopher and Steven were already inside, surrounded by a whiteboard filled with scribbles and plot beats, joined by two other writers.
"Lucas," Christopher greeted with a grin, standing up briefly before gesturing to the seat. "Co in, take a seat."
Lucas nodded with a relaxed smile and sat down. He scanned the room, feeling a little nostalgic. Although he had been involved in early creative decisions years ago, this felt different now—he was walking in with more weight, more experience, and a bigger na.
"With you back on board," Christopher began, "we’re thinking of bringing Dylan into the spotlight again. And we want to build an episode that’s really dedicated to your character."
Steven nodded, gesturing with a pen. "We thought it’d be great to get your input on it. Maybe you could pitch in so ideas or adjustnts. You know the character better than anyone."
Lucas tilted his head with interest. "Alright, I’m listening."
Christopher and Steven exchanged a glance before Christopher began, "So, to sum up the episode... Dylan’s now a recognized rockstar with his band. His life seems to be going great—on paper, at least. But it’s not all smooth sailing. He and Haley broke up after that big concert a few months ago—rember the one where she sang on stage with him?"
Lucas nodded with a small smile. "Yeah. That was a fun one to shoot."
"Yeah," Christopher said with a grin. "After that concert, Dylan and Haley broke up. He wanted to focus on his career, and Haley didn’t want to hold him back. But that decision haunts him. The fa starts to feel empty. He runs into issues with his family, pressure builds, and he begins spiraling a bit... maybe even brushes up against so substance use."
Steven picked it up, "Instead of talking to anyone about it, he pours everything into a song—his pain, confusion, and regret. He releases it, and when Haley hears it, she realizes sothing’s wrong. That’s when she reaches out. They reconnect, not through a dramatic reunion, but through the music. The episode ends on that hopeful note."
Lucas leaned back, arms crossed as he mulled it over. "So Dylan’s song is really my song, right? I’ll be writing and performing it based on his emotional state?"
"Exactly," Christopher nodded. "Your voice, your lody, but written from Dylan’s point of view."
Steven smirked and added, "And just a reminder—anything you create for the show goes through your label and the network. That’s in the contract."
Christopher grinned. "We are paying you two million dollars per episode, after all. Might as well put you to work."
Lucas chuckled. "Fair enough. I like it. Sounds like a chance to do sothing aningful... and fun."
