Luofeng nodded. "Yes, that Bai Ningbing!"
Xu Zhenzhu, just erging from the kitchen, said, "I rember that little girl. From the neighborhood next door, right? She’s quite pretty. Are you two together now?"
Luofeng shook his head. "It’s only the very first step between us. She’s studying at Jingzhou University, majoring in Journalism and Communication. Her school isn’t in the sa city as mine."
"It wouldn’t take long to get there from Shu City by plane, right? Surely you can afford a plane ticket?" Xu Zhenzhu advised.
This? Mom is so trendy now? It’s clearly a long-distance relationship, so why is she making it sound like a sa-city romance?
"When will Xiao Bai be back? Find a ti to bring her over so I can et her!" Xu Zhenzhu said.
"Mom, I already told you, it’s just the very beginning for us!" Luofeng complained.
Luo Lin asked, "Hasn’t she gotten her break from university yet?"
This question was fraught with hidden daggers. Previously, Luo Lin had guessed that Luofeng was spending the night out with a woman. And now this question? Wasn’t this putting him to the test? One look at Luo Lin’s expression, and it was obvious there was more to it. The key was, Luo Lin also looked at his son with envy.
Luofeng couldn’t lie. "Jingzhou University hasn’t started its break yet!"
Luo Lin gave his son a doubtful look but didn’t say anything, only comnting, "As for your classmate’s mother working at the bank, discuss it with her directly. Then see what terms they offer. Of course, if the terms are good, I’ll definitely consider it!"
Luo Lin’s aning was quite straightforward. If the terms were good, it wasn’t out of the question. If the terms weren’t good, he couldn’t choose their bank just because she was the mother of his son’s classmate, could he?
"I understand, Dad!" Luofeng nodded, also breathing a sigh of relief.
So Dad is turning a blind eye to this? Perhaps our family’s pig is finally going to eat so cabbage? And? And it’s very likely he’ll get two cabbages, not just one?
"By the way, son, for your birthday this year, we’ll keep everything simple. I’ve already declined all the relatives who wanted to celebrate for you," Xu Zhenzhu said.
In the past, when Luofeng had birthdays, relatives from both his dad’s and mom’s sides would do whatever it took to strengthen ties. The naive Luofeng of the past even thought everyone adored him. One could imagine, if one’s parents had no influence, who would care about their child?
Luofeng nodded. "I know. But I have one question: will there be Smoked Fish for my birthday this year?"
Smoked Fish was his mom’s specialty, but the cooking process was incredibly complicated. Luofeng could almost only eat it once, on his birthday. Any other ti, it was purely up to luck.
Xu Zhenzhu grumbled good-naturedly, "I knew you’d want it! You two go buy the groceries; I’ll get things ready at ho!"
"Thanks, Mom!" Luofeng cheered.
Actually, with Luofeng’s current wealth, he could buy anything he wanted from outside. But the taste of ho was different.
After Luofeng and Luo Lin left the house, Luo Lin drove the Lamborghini Urus to the wet market. One, a promising young man with assets exceeding a billion yuan; the other, a real-life domineering CEO. Together, they arrived at the wet market. Luo Lin usually bought vegetables here, mainly because the vegetables were fresher.
For instance, this ti, the two of them actually spotted winter bamboo shoots? This stuff wasn’t cheap this year. In the South, where they are abundant, the price had already soared to around ten bucks per half a kilogram, and dried shoots were 120 yuan or more. Fresh ones here would easily go for fifteen bucks and up per half a kilogram. The ones Luofeng was looking at in this particular shop were large, a good variety priced at twenty yuan per half a kilogram.
In Shu City, Luofeng knew that winter bamboo shoots tasted great; they could be stewed with smoked pork feet, stir-fried, or even served cold as a salad. These bamboo shoots are mostly wild. Even if cultivated, they’d only use a bit of fertilizer at most. Upon inquiry, he learned they were actually winter bamboo shoots from Colorful Clouds Zhao Tong. The bamboo shoots from that region are of excellent quality.
Around mid-morning, Luo Lin and Luofeng returned ho, their hands full of bags, large and small. His mother was busy preparing in the kitchen.
For lunch, his mom quickly whipped up so Tomato Scrambled Eggs, Yu Xiang Rou Si, Yu Xiang Pig Liver, and stir-fried cucumbers.
"Son, I’ve prepared a gift for you!" Luo Lin said mysteriously after they finished eating.
"Oh?" Luofeng looked at his dad with curiosity.
He rembered his birthday during his senior year of high school: Luo Lin’s gift had been study materials, which had thoroughly annoyed Luofeng.
"It’s not study material, is it?"
"Don’t worry. You’re in university now; I won’t be that strict. This ti, I guarantee you’ll like it!" Luo Lin said with a smile.
"Could it be that you bought a Lamborghini?" Luofeng asked curiously.
"Didn’t you already buy one yourself?" Luo Lin chuckled.
That made sense. Luofeng had bought one already. Although the Lamborghini Urus is often considered not a ’true’ Lamborghini, the opinions of such ’keyboard car gods’ shouldn’t be taken too seriously; it’s best to just let them talk. Despite its various flaws, it still costs three million, doesn’t it?
It’s like looking down on the BMW 3 Series, isn’t it? Does it have to be a BMW 5 Series to be considered a ’real’ BMW? Co on, a BMW 3 Series still costs over three hundred thousand to get on the road. And you’d need around two or three thousand yuan a year for upkeep, right? What’s more, if you drive it a lot, the expenses would be even higher. You earn five thousand a month and want to maintain a BMW 3 Series? Even with eight thousand, would you give up eating and drinking? Paying rent? Other expenses? So, what’s there to look down on about the BMW 3 Series?
Of course, even if you don’t drive it much, a car worth several hundred thousand is a headache. Annual insurance is over ten thousand, and maintenance is a few thousand more!
"What exactly is it, Dad?"
"Just wait!" Luo Lin said before going into the bedroom.
When he ca out again, Luofeng looked at the box in his dad’s hand.
Sony’s PS4? So? He gave a gaming console?
Luofeng was starting to feel speechless...
"This is sothing you really wanted one year, isn’t it? Do you like it?"
Luofeng almost fainted. That was all in the past! The words ’in the past’... they an it’s over and done with! It’s entirely possible that yesterday soone liked BMWs, today they like Porsches, and tomorrow they’ll want Ferraris. As people progress, their horizons broaden too, don’t they?
"Want to play a round of Call of Duty?" Luofeng didn’t show any dissatisfaction and instead issued an invitation.
"Sure!" Luo Lin nodded.
The father and son started playing in the living room. Xu Zhenzhu ca out of the kitchen and saw them enjoying their ga. She smiled, shook her head, and returned to the kitchen to continue her work, very happy with the warm atmosphere in their ho.
