Gu Lingqian had been on a business trip for several days, and today he made a special effort to co back for Gu Beicheng’s engagent banquet.
He went to pick up Xia Yinian, and after having dinner with her outside, he personally drove her back.
"What’s wrong?" Gu Lingqian turned his head to glance at Xia Yinian.
Xia Yinian t his gaze, shook her head, and looked ahead once more.
"What could be wrong with ?"
"Uncle and Lady Qing’s engagent is also a forced decision, don’t think too much." Gu Lingqian said softly.
This girl hardly said a word during the entire dinner, yet she claims nothing is wrong.
Xia Yinian pressed her lips together and glanced at him again.
"Aren’t you jealous today?"
"I am, I feel jealous every day, so I’ve gotten used to it." Gu Lingqian nodded, the corners of his mouth slightly lifted.
Xia Yinian didn’t know what to say; that night she stayed, and she was willing to do so.
Although she and Uncle hadn’t taken the final step, it seed there wasn’t much difference.
Brother Ling Qian probably knows too; he didn’t even call her that day.
Every night while on the business trip, no matter how busy he was, he would call her, except for that night.
She had a lot of guilt towards him, but there was no way to make up for it.
Xia Yinian looked ahead, trying hard to suppress her thoughts.
"In a few days, I plan to go to Yaoshan to see Grandpa. I’ve spoken with the Third Young Master over the phone, he’ll be waiting for at the airport, so you can focus on your work."
"Mhm." Gu Lingqian nodded.
"You know?" His reaction surprised Xia Yinian a little.
"I know you’re worried about Grandpa Feng, so I ntioned it to the Third Young Master before, and he said he could protect you." Gu Lingqian replied softly.
"When are you planning to go? When will you be back?" He continued to ask.
"The plane is on Friday night, and I’ll be back in about three or four days." Xia Yinian pressed her lips together.
"These past few days, I’ve gained so understanding of Grandma’s illness, and before setting up the studio, I want to sort through Grandpa’s condition, maybe I can be of so help."
"Take it slow, don’t wear yourself out." Gu Lingqian stretched out his large hand, and gently rubbed the girl’s head.
He was still driving and didn’t look at her.
"I know, aren’t you the sa, going out for a few days and you’ve gotten thinner." Xia Yinian said lightly.
"Who’s to bla for my unrequited love? But people get used to it." Gu Lingqian curved his lips slightly and withdrew his hand.
His words carried no peculiarities, yet they bore so asure of reluctance and heartache.
Before Xia Yinian could respond, Gu Lingqian’s voice sounded again.
"Tonight, you won’t cry, right?"
"Cry?" Xia Yinian frowned, recalling sothing, she said disdainfully, "You might cry, but I haven’t cried yet."
Earlier, she felt a little choked up, but now, it’s gone.
Brother Ling Qian is just like that, always being good to her, even if she says too much, it’s futile.
"Why would I cry? My rival in love is getting engaged, I’m too happy to even cry." Gu Lingqian said with a smile.
"What rival in love?" Xia Yinian pinched his shoulder, "Brother Ling Qian, you’re becoming more and more annoying, hasn’t anyone told you that?"
"Not really, I still think I’m quite popular." Gu Lingqian responded generously, not feeling embarrassed at all.
"Go away!" Xia Yinian cast him a side glance, finally letting a small smile form at the corner of her lips.
The two continued their playful banter, quickly arriving back at the Gu Family.
The banquet didn’t start until half-past eight in the evening, and when they got ho, the guests hadn’t arrived yet, but the Gu Family was already bustling with activity.
Tonight’s banquet was more grand than previous ones, with the venue set outside the main house, unlike before when it was held inside.
