The fire had burned low by the ti Cang stopped pretending he was going to sleep.

He sat at the cave entrance with the shadow sword across his knees and the System interface open in the blue-lit dark and listened to the cave behind him produce the sounds of nine won who had made a collective decision not to fully settle, in the sa way that water makes a decision not to fully still when sothing is sitting in it.

Lianhua’s silver eyes caught the moonlight twice when she checked on him from the interior passage.

Both tis she said nothing. Both tis she went back inside.

The second ti she left a cup of warm tea at his elbow with the specific precision of a fox-kin woman performing care through logistics because direct expression was not available.

He drank it.

He opened the System properly.

[dical System — Full Status Review:]

[Host: Cang Wuhen — Stage: Nascent Soul Mid — Evil Points: 4,847 — Dragon Essence: 100% Integrated — Shadow Devourer: Bonded, Sealed Tier 2-3 powers pending rune activation]

[First Demon Trial Rewards: UNCLAID — 1x Realm Seed (Dormant) — 1x Grade 4 Spatial Expansion Token — 1x Formation Blueprint (Hidden Domain, Liveable Grade) — 3x Demonic Seed Powers (sealed, require Primordial Rune site for activation)]

[Current Pregnancy Count: 2 (Zhen Ying: 14 weeks, Madam Lin: 12 weeks) — dical Advisory: Both require stable living environnt within 6-8 weeks as cultivation-accelerated gestation approaches critical phase- Fast Forwarded to One month withiut Actual Ti Clarity.]

[Harem Infrastructure Status: Single cave, insufficient. External address: Known to regional cultivators. Security: Dependent on Nascent Soul output only. Assessnt: Inadequate.]

He read ’inadequate’ and sat with it.

[System Note: The System wishes to note that "inadequate" is doing significant heavy lifting here. The System recomnds treating this as urgent rather than eventual. The System notes it has never before issued a tiline to the host. The System is issuing one now. Six weeks.]

’I know,’ he thought.

He looked at the broken mountain range to the northwest—the fracture planes catching the last of the moonlight, the spatial shimr above the primary site visible even at this distance as a faint silver disturbance in the dark. He had read the runes in his previous life, he now understood. Had made them, in a sense, by the act of fighting here. Had left them as instructions for the version of himself who would return after the loop ended and need exactly this.

’Even then I was planning ahead,’ he thought. ’Pre-Earth had the long view down to an uncomfortable precision.’

He looked at the System’s Academy section.

[Demon Academy — Cang Wuhen Status: Absent — Duration: 6 weeks — Institutional Classification: Unaffiliated Nascent Soul Asset — Political Activity During Absence:]

[Elder Seat 1 (Hou Ming, Core Formation Peak): Has begun quiet alliance overtures with seats 3 and 5]

[Elder Seat 3 (Ye Fangren, Nascent Soul Early): Has accepted overtures. Motivations: resource access, political insulation]

[Elder Seat 5 (Dao Shuilan, Core Formation Late): Has accepted overtures. Motivations: Stage advancent desperation]

[Elder Seat 2 (Bai Jiaming, Core Formation Mid): Isolated. Watching.]

[Elder Seat 4 (Kong Ruhe, Core Formation Late): Isolated. Watching.]

[Elder Seat 6 (unknown occupant, stage unknown): No observed political activity. Assessnt: Either uninvested or significantly more dangerous than the rest.]

[The Heavenly Demon’s Seventh Seat: Vacant. Has been vacant for 10,000 years. Every existing elder knows this. Every existing elder has been quietly competing for the right to claim it. None have.]

[System Assessnt: Power is corrupting at the predictable rate. The three-elder coalition will move against the isolated two within months. Seats 2 and 4 will eventually need external alignnt to survive. The Seventh Seat will eventually require a claimant. The claimant’s qualification is not political. It is blood. Specifically: yours.]

He closed the interface.

’The Academy is a fracturing institution with five elders who absorbed trace Heavenly Demon qi from the original battle and have been building power on it for years,’ he thought. ’Power borrowed against soone else’s cultivation history. And now the soone whose history it is has returned and is not dead and is not the Heavenly Demon they rember and is sitting outside a mountain cave with nine won and two pregnancies and no institutional address.’

’I cannot walk back into the Academy without a territory.’

’A territory that is not a cave. Not a village path. Not a location on a map that anyone with a navigation formation can find.’

’A realm. A pocket dinsion built on the Primordial Rune site at the broken mountains, activated with the Grade 4 token and the dormant seed, sealed with Wei Lingyue’s formation literacy and the demonic authority of the Shadow Devourer. A place with no external address. A place that exists between the layers of the cultivation world’s geography, accessible only through a formation gate that I set and only I can relocate.’

’A place where Zhen Ying can give birth safely. Where Madam Lin can give birth safely. Where nine won can exist without being leverage.’

’And then,’ he thought, ’I return to the Academy as the Seventh Seat’s rightful claimant, not as an unaffiliated asset that six frightened elders are competing to absorb.’

The tea was good.

He finished it.

He set the cup down and looked at the mountain range.

’Tomorrow,’ he thought.

Morning.

The cave entrance produced Chen Yun first—the demon sword already drawn, its awakened field pressing outward, the automatic pre-dawn operational status of a sword cultivator who had never developed a relationship with the concept of easing into the day.

She looked at him on the rock.

She looked at the empty tea cup.

"You’ve been out here all night," she said.

"I cultivated," he said.

"You read the System all night," she said.

"Also that," he said.

She stood beside him and looked at the broken mountain range with the demon sword’s field pressing toward it—the specific magnetism of a weapon that shared its origin with whatever was written on those rune faces. Her dark eyes were doing the morning assessnt. Stage, threat level, operational considerations.

Then: "We’re coming with you."

He looked at her.

"Today," she said. "When you go to the runes. We’re coming."

"The formation argunt," he said.

"The formation argunt," she confird. "Which remains correct and has not changed because you slept outside."

"I didn’t sleep," he said.

"That supports my position," she said.

Wei Lingyue arrived from the cave interior with the crown already on, her grey hair loose, the specific composure of a woman who wakes at full capacity and does not require a transition period.

She read the scene—Cang on the rock, Chen Yun beside him, the broken mountain range in the dawn—and positioned herself at his other side with the quiet of soone who has already decided and is executing.

"We’re coming," she said.

"I know," he said.

Both won looked at him.

"I was going to ask you," he said. "The activation array needs three practitioners at minimum. I was going to ask."

Wei Lingyue’s grey eyes did the thing they did when they were deciding whether sothing was true.

"But first," he said, "there’s sothing you need to do."

Chen Yun’s jaw had the set of soone who has been expecting a caveat.

"You need to et the rest," he said.

The silence of two won processing ’the rest.’

"More won," Wei Lingyue said. Flat. Not a question.

"Yes," he said.

Chen Yun looked at the cave entrance. At the sounds of the household already waking inside—Song i’s voice in the cooking area, Suyin’s asured footsteps, the specific muffled exchange of Lianhua and Zhen Ying in whatever they had been managing since dawn.

"How many more," she said.

He thought about the answer.

"Several," he said.

Chen Yun clicked her tongue. Quietly. The sound of a sword cultivator performing a controlled release of sothing that was not quite frustration and was not quite amusent and was the specific territory between them.

Wei Lingyue pressed her lips together.

"They may be," he said carefully, "in a particular mood."

"You an angry," Wei Lingyue said.

"Adjusting," he said.

"To us," she said.

"To the situation," he said.

Both won looked at each other over him with the grey eyes and the dark eyes doing a rapid bilateral assessnt that had the quality of sothing that had been happening since the terminal chamber—the two of them arriving at shared conclusions through the dium of having spent thirty-three hours in close proximity with the sa man and having each developed opinions about what that ant.

"Lead."
