Undead Mage: I Have a Skeleton Clone Chapter 348 - 276: Demon Talent, Clash of Two Calamities!
As the Long Spear was withdrawn, the Sheep-headed Monster’s corpse fell limply to the ground like a tattered sack. Its blood stained the earth, and it never rose again. Without a mont’s hesitation, the Long Spear Skeletons continued their determined advance.
Their formation was an indestructible bulwark, blocking the path of the advancing Sheep-headed Monsters. The fiends charged like a furious tempest, but the shoulder-to-shoulder Long Spear Skeletons stood as firm as unyielding reefs. Holding their Long Spears level, they ford a formidable array, an impenetrable wall of steel. Every charge by the Sheep-headed Monsters only splashed waves of blood against this solid Defense, followed by the terrified screams of the others. They were forced to retreat, their hearts enveloped in chaos and Fear.
A cold glint flashed in the Black Armored Abyss Knight’s eyes as he watched his subordinates retreat in disarray from the Shelter’s gates. He raised the pitch-black Longsword in his hand and issued a cold, ruthless command. "Charge, or die!"
The Abyss Knight’s words were not to be questioned. Though the Sheep-headed Monsters feared Death, they clearly feared their master’s wrath even more. After a series of frenzied shrieks, they remounted their black beasts, preparing to launch another assault.
By this ti, Olaf had already commanded the Long Spear Skeletons to prepare. Arranged in two rows, they tightly blocked the camp entrance. The front row knelt, thrusting the butts of their Long Spears deep into the earth and gripping the shafts with both hands, the sharp tips pointed directly at the enemy. The back row stood with their feet staggered, resting their spears on the shoulders of the row in front, together forming a dense forest of steel. Against a Light Cavalry-style enemy like the Sheep-headed Monsters, this dense Spear Array was a natural counter, at least for foes below a certain threshold of power.
The Shelter’s entrance was less than three ters wide, so the six Long Spear Skeletons in each row ford an incredibly dense defensive line. To the left and right of the first rank stood nurous Giant Shield Skeletons, their heavy shields like bastions. They further reinforced the line’s stability, ensuring that any enemy attempting to break through would pay a heavy price.
As the Sheep-headed Monsters neared the Spear Array this ti, they used their charge’s montum to hurl their Short Spears. This was a classic Light Cavalry tactic against a dense phalanx, using high-speed impact to increase a projectile’s Penetration and break the enemy line. Even Fang Zhou’s Long Spear Skeletons, with their hollow bones that allowed them to shrug off so lightweight projectiles, would inevitably suffer losses against such a fierce assault.
At that decisive mont, however, the Giant Shield Skeletons flanking the Spear Array began to move. They raised their heavy Skeleton Shields with powerful arms, tearing the air with a low roar. As they advanced, they ford an impenetrable wall of bone. Upon striking this wall, the Short Spears either shattered on impact or were deflected, losing all threat. A few lucky projectiles managed to slip past the Shield line, but their trajectories were altered, and they rely embedded themselves deeply into the distant wooden wall, causing no substantial damage to the Spear Array.
A glint of sharp, cold light flashed in the eyes of the observing Black Armored Abyss Knight. He tightened his grip on his pitch-black Longsword, preparing to command the battle once more. But before he could speak, an intense sense of danger struck him like a bolt of lightning—a premonition that was as swift as it was sudden.
The Knight’s reaction was exceptionally fast. The instant he sensed danger, he flung himself sideways, rolling from the saddle to the ground. Almost simultaneously, a sharp Arrow whistled down from the sky, burying itself deep in the back of his steed. Despite its Solid black armor, the loyal warhorse could not withstand the lethal strike. It let out a piercing shriek, its front hooves rearing in a final struggle before it crashed heavily to the ground, its life extinguished in an instant.
After rolling several tis on the ground, the Black Armored Abyss Knight regained his footing. Even in his Heavy Armor, he displayed stunning agility, a testant to his extraordinary physique and strength. Seeing the tragic death of his faithful steed, a raging fire ignited in the Abyss Knight’s eyes.
He slowly reached over his shoulder, retrieving a Longbow that emanated a dark sheen. Nocking a twisted black Long Arrow to the string, he raised his head and stared forward.
Up on the watchtower near the gate, the gaze of Li Guang, the Punishnt Ranger, was as sharp as an icy blade. He had already readied a second Arrow for his Silver Fir Wood Longbow, its tip aid squarely at the Black Armored Abyss Knight’s head.
Feeling that sharp gaze, the Black Armored Abyss Knight grunted, his expression growing even more grim. His hoarse, cold voice rang out again, but this ti the command was completely different. "Forget the gate! Attack the watchtower!"
The Sheep-headed Monsters had already launched two volleys of Short Spears. However, over forty of the projectiles were intercepted by the Giant Shield Skeletons’ Shields, shattering before they reached the Spear Array. A few managed to penetrate the defensive line, but most missed their mark. Only a dozen or so spears made it into the phalanx, glancing off the Long Spear Skeletons’ bodies without causing any real damage.
The Black Armored Abyss Knight’s new command brought a collective sigh of relief from the terrified creatures. They imdiately kicked their mounts’ bellies hard, fleeing from the camp gate as quickly as possible and leaving trails of dust that seed to proclaim their fear and helplessness.
Seeing the Sheep-headed Monsters scatter and flee from the gate, a cheer erupted from behind the Spear Array. The shouts ca from a group of camp guards and courageous refugees. They stood behind the Long Spear Skeletons, holding anything that could be used as a weapon, ready to charge forward and fight the Demons to the death should the Skeletons falter. Among them were old n brandishing rusty swords, young people clutching makeshift clubs, and even won and children ard with rocks and pieces of wood.
While the threat at the camp gate had been temporarily neutralized, the Archers on the watchtower now faced a greater danger. Under a gloomy, overcast sky, the ghostly figures of dozens of Sheep-headed Monsters darted around the outside of the watchtower’s wooden wall. Their eyes, gleaming with a feral light, were locked onto the towering structure.
The Sheep-headed Monsters swiftly drew Short Spears from their sides. With a roar, they swung their arms forcefully, hurling the projectiles at incredible speeds. The spearheads left silvery-white trails in the air, like teors streaking across the night sky. Their strength was astonishing; at a range of about thirty ters, the Short Spears had terrifying Penetration, their power even exceeding that of ordinary Arrows.
However, the watchtower stood over fifteen ters high, and its half-ter-tall wooden parapet provided an additional layer of protection. Although the continuous barrage of Short Spears caused the entire structure to tremble violently, the wooden walls held firm, showing no signs of damage.
The Sheep-headed Monsters not only possessed astonishing strength, but they were also exceptionally agile. They moved quickly across the battlefield in a loose, irregular formation that made them difficult to predict and target.
For Fang Zhou, this was a problem. While he wasn’t in any imdiate danger, the monsters’ constant repositioning and frequent attacks prevented him from finding a suitable opportunity to unleash his Death Ripple skill. He therefore chose to remain hidden for the ti being, avoiding the premature exposure of his position or power.
