Sighing in a pretentious manner, "Alright then..."
Just as the three little munchkins were thrilled to hear they didn’t need to see Chen Mu for dical treatnt,
they heard Chen Mu coldly say, "Even with insurance, taking these kids to the hospital will cost a few hundred bucks."
Before the words were even fully spoken,
the three little ones visibly quieted down.
The youngest one’s eyes brimd with tears.
—
"???"
"Could it be what I’m thinking?"
"Are we thinking the sa...?"
"Probably, right? Chen just ntioned the hospital costs, and the kids went silent—maybe they’re worried about the money?"
"No way, are kids this young already concerned about money?"
"Yeah, if these three are the kids of Hai City University staff, they shouldn’t be worried over a few hundred bucks, should they? I think your guess is a bit of a stretch..."
"I don’t think our guess is exaggerated. We’ve been watching this live for days now; haven’t you noticed how Dr. Chen deals with patients—he’s quite deliberate."
"So, it ans Dr. Chen brought it up because he knows that worrying about money is these kids’ Achilles’ heel."
"No, you guys are taking this too far. Would little kids even understand the concept of worrying over money?"
"Don’t underestimate little kids. My niece is just three years old, and she knows about her New Year’s money—I can’t trick her out of it anymore!"
"???"
"You’re eyeing a three-year-old’s New Year’s money?!"
"I’m different. My son is two, and we manage his New Year’s money for him!"
"Oh, I’m all too familiar with this tactic—’keep it safe for life,’ and never return it, right?!"
"..."
—
"Why aren’t you leaving? Don’t you have a car?"
Seeing the three kids no longer excited,
Chen Mu’s mood inexplicably improved.
He reached into the pocket of his white coat and pulled out a car key.
With a chuckle, he said, "These kids don’t need the school ambulance for now. Teacher He, we go way back, right? How about I lend you my car?"
With that,
Chen Mu generously tossed his car key to Teacher He.
Teacher He, realizing what was happening, cooperatively caught the key.
He laughed, then thanked Chen Mu, "Thank you, Dr. Chen. It was inconvenient to go to the hospital because we didn’t drive, but since that’s settled, I’ll take the kids and leave..."
Before he could finish his sentence,
the older child interrupted him.
Child: "Dad, you’re lying. We did drive here!"
Saying that,
the child pouted and glared at Chen Mu.
"Uh... this..." Hearing his son’s unmasked hostility towards Chen Mu,
Teacher He looked at Chen Mu with so embarrassnt.
Chen Mu, however, wasn’t bothered by the animosity of the little ones.
He walked up to Teacher He,
gently retrieved his car key from Teacher He’s hand.
He smiled and said, "Oh, you drove here, so no need to use my car. I save on gas money."
Chen Mu’s actions were as smooth as water.
Teacher He’s son beca even more annoyed upon hearing this.
He tugged at his father’s pant leg and whispered, "Dad, it costs more to go to the hospital. Maybe we should just swallow our pride and get treated here."
Swallow our pride?
Su Bingbing looked at Chen Mu, incredulous: "Dr. Chen, what on earth happened between you and these kids before?"
"How did it escalate to swallowing pride?"
With that said,
Su Bingbing glanced at the youngest one.
Also pouting, seemingly only two or three years old, having deep-seated issues with Chen Mu.
With a sense of helplessness, she continued to ask, "Dr. Chen, can such young kids really hold grudges?"
Even such a young child.
Had a lasting impression of Chen Mu.
Su Bingbing was really curious about what Chen Mu had done in the past.
When she heard Su Bingbing’s question,
Chen Mu just smiled, "Reporter Su, you’ve only been at Hai City University for a short while, so it’s normal you’re not familiar with them. I just ntioned their past to you as we ca down."
Su Bingbing took a full five seconds to react.
She then looked at the three little munchkins with disbelief, raising her voice slightly, "The three who jumped off the building last sester?"
As Chen Mu nodded,
Su Bingbing’s expression turned troubled.
—
"Gosh, I was just telling my wife how cute kids can be, but now I’m hoping ours won’t be like this."
"They look cute, but these three would jump off a building..."
"No wonder their impression of Dr. Chen is so pronounced. If I’m not mistaken, according to what Dr. Chen said earlier, he was the one dealing with them when they took that leap last year, right?"
"Not even half a year has passed, and these three little ancestors are back?"
"Just now: three little munchkins. Now: three ancestors..."
"These aren’t just three little ancestors; they’re three living ones."
"..."
—
"They look so cute..."
Su Bingbing stared at the three kids.
Still sowhat subconsciously.
Unwilling to accept the news Chen Mu brought her.
Such adorable kids.
Chen Mu just glanced at Su Bingbing and could tell what she was thinking.
With a slight smirk,
he continued, "Reporter Su, do you want to know why these three kids resist and dislike so much?"
"Why?" Su Bingbing was genuinely curious.
Clearly.
After Chen Mu openly talked about past events,
the kids’ attitudes showed so change.
The two older ones glared at Chen Mu with deep resentnt.
The youngest.
Clearly.
Still didn’t know how to manage their emotions.
Just looked at Chen Mu fearfully, unconsciously hiding behind the two older kids.
The more obvious the kids’ reactions,
the more curious Su Bingbing beca, urging him: "Dr. Chen, who on earth did you offend?"
Chen Mu stroked his chin, not feeling awkward about being disliked by the kids.
He even seed slightly proud: "I didn’t do anything too over-the-top. Last year, I just prescribed them a redy, though it’s not sothing most doctors would prescribe to patients!"
Su Bingbing was still pondering.
What kind of redy Chen Mu ntioned,
when she saw the two older kids suddenly explode on the spot.
Their voices unconsciously raised.
"Is that even a redy? What kind of doctor prescribes that kind of treatnt?"
"Quack! You’re just a quack!"
"Yeah! If it weren’t for the fact that treatnt here is free, we wouldn’t even be here!"
The children’s innocent words made Su Bingbing chuckle uncontrollably.
Even if she didn’t fully understand before,
seeing such a strong reaction from the kids.
Even the dullest adult
could sowhat guess that the redy Chen Mu prescribed to the three little ones.
Was definitely not an ordinary redy.
"Dr. Chen, stop leaving us hanging..." Su Bingbing couldn’t help herself, tugging at Chen Mu’s sleeve, softly acting spoiled.
Chen Mu felt his ears warm, instinctively dodging Su Bingbing’s gaze, "It’s nothing rare, just a very common redy called broom stir-fry."
Su Bingbing: "Broom stir-fry? Any specifications on the broom material?"
Chen Mu’s smile widened, "Just needs to be handy for the parents."
—
"???!!!"
"No wonder the kids reacted so strongly. If anyone had prescribed such a redy to my dad when I was a kid, I’d probably curse them in my dreams!"
"Broom stir-fry? Haha! Common, indeed, this redy is all too common!"
"My wife doesn’t seem to understand the value of this redy..."
"Why doesn’t the wife understand? Because when she was a kid, she was well-behaved."
"Let ask, those of you who’ve had broom stir-fry, who wasn’t a little rascal back then?"
"Say no more! I’m thirty, and just hearing broom stir-fry gives the chills, childhood fears resurfacing!"
"Dr. Chen, this prescription is poison!"
