At first, Song Ke, Yu Xiang, and all the others had been arrogant and overbearing, looking down on the Xue and Fang Families.
Now, however, they were as pathetic as stray dogs, kneeling on the ground and shivering uncontrollably.
Chen Yang tugged at his cuff. His gaze fell upon the noblewoman, Yu Xiang, as he slowly began to walk toward her.
THUD. THUD. THUD.
Hearing the footsteps, Yu Xiang's heart leaped into her throat. Cold sweat beaded on her smooth forehead, rolling down her cheeks. So drops hit the floor, while others trickled down her slender neck and soaked into her collar.
Yu Zhen, who had been simring with indignation, felt a bone-chilling cold and began to tremble uncontrollably.
"You keep bringing up the Yu Family," Chen Yang said mildly, kicking a piece of yellow talisman paper on the floor. "Do you think that just because I've stepped down, I owe your family so face?"
"I wonder, how does your Yu Family compare to the Qi Family?"
His seemingly casual words made Yu Xiang feel as if she'd been plunged into an icy cavern, her very blood threatening to freeze solid.
After all, who in Cangyun City didn't know that the Qi Family, one of the eight great influential families, had been wiped out by this very man? He had done it with a single sword strike, taking a mont out of his day during his decisive battle at Chilian Peak.
And her Yu Family was, at best, only evenly matched with the Qi Family.
"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!" Yu Xiang apologized profusely, her voice trembling. "I… I didn't an to throw my weight around. Please, Sir, forgive ."
"Let's not talk about that for now."
Chen Yang kicked out, sending the talisman paper fluttering into the air. It grazed Yu Zhen's scalp and flew out of the hall.
A gentle breeze wafted through. The paper rode the wind, soaring upward.
"First, let's talk about what happened at the courtyard gate," Chen Yang said impassively.
BUZZ!
Yu Xiang's face instantly turned deathly pale, a horrifying chill running through her.
Is he going to settle all the scores at once?
HUFF… HUFF… Gasping for breath, Yu Xiang began kowtowing frantically. "Sir, I'm so sorry! My son is still young, and he's going through puberty. It's inevitable that he gets… stirred up around girls."
"He's just a boy. Please, let him go this ti."
Chen Yang flexed his fingers, his eyelids lifting slightly. He gazed outside the hall, where the talisman paper, after making a wide loop, had returned to the Xue Family courtyard.
"He carries a seal and stamps people with it to claim them as his property," Chen Yang stated calmly. "And you expect to believe this is just youthful ignorance? Or that this is his first ti?"
"And you, do you really think money can buy everything?"
"Then again, your readiness to write a check earlier seed quite practiced."
Yu Xiang was speechless.
"Why don't you tell ? How many people has this 'ignorant' child of yours hard over the years?"
The hair on Yu Xiang's entire body stood on end, and her scalp tingled with terror.
Her son had quite the reputation in Cangyun City. Snatching won off the street was just child's play for him; the Yu Family servants had been slaughtered by him, one batch after another. The family's several large wolfhounds, fed on human flesh, had grown as stout as calves. And she, his mother, had always indulged him, never once uttering a word of criticism.
Today, they had only co to the Xue Residence to kick them while they were down. Who could have imagined they would provoke such a colossal figure?
"You… you want to kill ?"
Yu Zhen, at her side, finally understood the implication in Chen Yang's words. He snapped his head up, his eyes flashing with a cold, venomous light.
"Naturally," Chen Yang nodded earnestly.
"Son…" Yu Xiang knew her son's temperant all too well and reached out to stop him.
However, Yu Zhen slapped her hand away and shot to his feet. He jabbed a finger at Chen Yang's nose and snarled, "I know all about you! You *used* to be a big deal, but now…!"
"My grandfather said you're nothing more than a toothless tiger now! Nothing to be afraid of!"
He was, after all, a teenager in the midst of a rebellious phase. A surge of anger incinerated what little reason he had left.
He then pulled out his phone. While dialing his grandfather, he sneered, "A pathetic piece of trash like you wants to kill ?"
"Zhen!" Yu Xiang frantically tried to stop him. "Stop making trouble, listen to —"
"Get away from !"
Yu Zhen shoved his mother aside. As the call connected, he wailed, his face a mask of grievance. "Grandpa, soone's bullying ! The bastard said he's going to kill !"
"I'm your favorite grandson! You have to help !"
A furious, two-word reply ca from the other end. "Where?"
"At the Xue Residence! Get here quick!"
"Ten minutes."
Putting his phone away, Yu Zhen pointed at Chen Yang with renewed arrogance. "You son of a bitch, just you wait!"
Yu Xiang, however, was scared out of her wits. She prostrated herself on the ground again, kowtowing and begging Chen Yang for rcy. "Sir, please, a man of your stature shouldn't concern himself with the foolishness of a boy! I swear this will be the last ti. If it happens again, I'll kill him with my own hands!"
"Sir, please give him one more chance."
Chen Yang grinned. "I don't have ti to wait for him to turn over a new leaf."
Yu Xiang's face fell.
"Wait my ass! To hell with you!" Yu Zhen erupted, making no attempt to hide his rage. With ferocious eyes, he jabbed a finger at Chen Yang and scread, "You damn mutt, do you really think you're sobody special?"
"That woman from before, I don't care if she's your girlfriend or your wife! I'm going to drag her back and torture her until she begs for death!"
With his true nature exposed, Yu Zhen was revealed to be a complete and utter animal.
SMACK!
Chen Yang's hand slamd down. Yu Zhen, who had been lost in his depraved fantasy, was forced to his knees as they both exploded, blood gushing from his head like a waterfall.
"Zhen!" Yu Xiang scread in despair.
"You… you…" Clinging to life, Yu Zhen's face twisted with venomous resentnt and indignation. In his mind, he was a master of the universe, and everyone else was weak and insignificant.
"You dare strike ?" Yu Zhen snarled. "Just you wait. When my grandfather gets here, I'll break all your limbs and make you kneel by my bed to watch with your own eyes as I defile your woman!"
"Isn't that cruel? Isn't it hopeless? Haha…"
WHOOSH.
Chen Yang flicked his foot. A shard of porcelain from the floor shot out, whistling through the air as it pierced Yu Zhen's left cheek, tore through his mouth, and exited his right.
Yu Zhen hit the floor and began to convulse. He thrashed on the ground like a severed earthworm, trying to scream but unable to make a sound.
"Do you want to know why I haven't killed you?" Chen Yang lit a cigarette, his voice detached. "I think it would be better to let your grandfather kill you himself."
"What do you think?"
Yu Zhen could only gurgle in response.
The room was plunged into a stunned silence.
