For the next three days, Chen Yang and Qin Qiu toured the entire Cangyun City, watching movies, going shopping, fishing, and climbing mountains.

Early that morning, after breakfast, Yang Hu held a docunt and said, "Boss, our guess was correct. That old coot, Ye Kuan, relied entirely on his connections to climb the ranks. You might not believe this, but despite being in the Martial Departnt for decades, he's only symbolically participated in a few small-scale conflicts. He's never actually taken to the field himself. Ten years ago, he personally led the formation of the Shanxiang Club. On the surface, it's just a small group for chatting and drinking tea, but in reality, it's a community of shared interests."

Chen Yang wasn't surprised. If such a revered veteran of the Martial Departnt were truly a man of iron-willed integrity, would he willingly let himself be used as a pawn?

Taking the docunt from Yang Hu, Chen Yang casually flipped through it and smiled. "From the looks of it, our dear Elder Ye Kuan intends to use the Martial Departnt as a stepping stone to enter the imperial court?"

"That seems to be the case." Yang Hu nodded. "With his extrely high reputation, he'll undoubtedly be beloved the mont he enters the court. Hiding behind such a veil of hypocrisy makes it much more convenient to manipulate things. But in reality, he is massively corrupt, indulging in both wealth and won."

Chen Yang put down the docunt and couldn't help but chuckle. "He's quite old, yet he still has such a passion for won. The man's still full of vigor, I'll give him that."

Ye Kuan, who had been a widower since middle age, had always remained single. The popular story was that the old general was not only upright and steadfast but also deeply devoted to his late wife, having vowed never to remarry and to live out his days alone. In reality, Ye Kuan enjoyed the company of a new young woman every month, all of them provided by those seeking to curry favor with him.

「Half an hour later.」

Ji Ping of the Ten Thousand Martial Guards arrived at Chen Yang's residence.

"My Lord, congratulations!" Ji Ping said, standing at attention and saluting.

Chen Yang waved his hand with a smile. "I've called you here today to have you make so preparations. I'm planning to move against a group of people."

Ji Ping had already suspected as much, but this was incredibly decisive. His superior had only been in his post for a few days, and he was already mobilizing the Ten Thousand Martial Guards? One can only imagine how high-ranking the target must be.

"My Lord, if I may be so bold, who is your target this ti?" Ji Ping asked.

Chen Yang smiled. "So old fellows just don't know how to enjoy a peaceful retirent, choosing to form factions instead. By the way, how much do you know about the Shanxiang Club?"

Ji Ping was speechless. He had his suspicions before he arrived, but hearing it confird still sent a jolt of shock through him, and the corner of his mouth twitched.

Ye Kuan's reputation, both within the Martial Departnt and among the public, was imnse. To move against such a person without an irrefutable reason would surely fail to silence the public outcry. Furthermore, this Lord had only just assud his position. Is this the new official's customary show of force?

"Go and prepare," Chen Yang said, dismissing him with another wave.

"Yes, Sir!"

Ji Ping complied. It wasn't until he was outside the courtyard that he wiped the sweat from his brow, his heart still pounding with alarm. Everyone says Ye Kuan is sympathetic to the people and a bastion of righteousness, yet the War God of the State is going to make an example of him. Now this is going to be a good show.

Cangyun City was in turmoil; one storm was brewing right after another.

...

The sky was a vast, clear blue, with no hint of wind or rain. Ye Kuan's mood, however, was anything but bright. He was gloomy and despondent, his brows knitted tightly together. The cause, naturally, was the harsh reprimand and threats he had received from the Great Elder at the Elders' Court. With the position of War God of the State now firmly consolidated by his rival, the venerable veteran found his food tasteless and his sleep fraught with anxiety.

Upon hearing the news, his old friends and nurous protégés flocked to visit, all bearing extravagant gifts. Among them were powerful dignitaries and outstanding figures from various fields. Within a single hour, Ye Kuan's private resort villa in Cangyun City was bustling with an extraordinary number of visitors.

"Teacher, I've brought a selection of top-quality goods today," a middle-aged man nad Han Tai said as he sidled up to Ye Kuan, whispering with a low chuckle. "The best part is, they're all virgins, waiting in my car."

"Not now," Ye Kuan said with a wave of his hand, but it was clear that the tight knot in his brow had loosened considerably.

"Right!" Han Tai nodded, then raised his voice. "Teacher, your noble character and outstanding achievents are unparalleled in the nation! You must take care of your health and not let so petty little people spoil your mood."

"Elder Ye is a man of unblemished integrity and honesty. The heavens will surely watch over you."

"Elder Ye, here is an old ginseng root."

Following Han Tai's lead, the others chid in with their own fawning flattery. To think that a simple bad mood could draw a crowd of dignitaries to personally visit and present such valuable gifts—who else could command such respect?

More people continued to arrive at the scenic resort villa. Even figures frequently seen on television were exceedingly humble here. The conversation revolved entirely around Ye Kuan, and the atmosphere grew relaxed and pleasant. Whether it was because of the girls Han Tai had prepared or sothing else, a faint smile began to spread across Ye Kuan's face, allowing many of the guests to breathe a sigh of relief. Their trip had not been in vain.

"Teacher, have so tea." Han Tai presented a cup to Ye Kuan with both hands.

Ye Kuan accepted it, took a small sip, and said with an amiable smile, "Don't be in such a hurry to leave, everyone. Please stay for lunch."

"Thank you, Teacher."

"You are too kind, Elder Ye."

Another round of pleasantries and fawning praise followed.

"Ahem." Han Tai cleared his throat and said with a displeased tone, "This War God of the State, for all his outstanding achievents, can't escape the elent of luck. Plus, he's defiant and uncontrollable. Teacher, you've dedicated your life's blood to the Martial Departnt. You are its most revered elder. So many days have passed, yet that fellow hasn't co to pay his respects and offer you a cup of tea. Is he already placing himself above everyone else? With such arrogance, his achievents will go no further."

His words were t with a wave of nodding heads. In their eyes, Ye Kuan was indisputably the most senior and prestigious veteran in the Martial Departnt. If not for his age, who else would have been worthy of the title this ti? Therefore, Chen Yang should have, without question, paid him a visit at the first opportunity.

"The man doesn't know the first thing about etiquette! Take away his luck, and what is he? Absolutely nothing!" a young man nad Huang Xin imdiately added.

"When I get a free mont, I'm going to find that guy and demand to know if he has any manners at all!"

The more Han Tai spoke, the more animated he beca, seeming to get carried away. "What War God of the State? If he were standing in front of right now, I'd give him a piece of my mind! Would he even dare to make a peep in protest?"

HAHAHA!

The gathering erupted in boisterous laughter. Being able to ridicule the War God of the State so openly was deeply satisfying.

"He doesn't even understand basic respect for his elders. Is he even human?" Han Tai pressed on.

As the others nodded in agreent, they also admired Han Tai's courage. While his words were cathartic, not just anyone would dare to say them. To make Ye Kuan happy, his student was truly putting himself on the line.

However, the sound of approaching footsteps shattered the festive atmosphere, plunging it from a warm spring day into the depths of a frozen winter. The resounding laughter died abruptly.

"The... the War God of the State?!"

"It's... it's..."

Hmm?

Riding high on his tirade, Han Tai frowned and instinctively turned around. He saw two figures slowly approaching. As his eyes fell on the Python Sparrow Devouring Dragon attire worn by one of them, he froze.

"You were saying soone lacks manners?" Yang Hu asked with great interest.

Han Tai was speechless.

"Not even human? I wonder, to whom were you referring?"

Han Tai was speechless.
