A single spark can start a prairie fire. If a sinister wind is added to the mix, it becos truly unstoppable.
Just like that, all of Cangyun City had erupted in calls for the Elders' Court to imdiately remove Chen Yang and replace him with Han Shaobai as the War God of the State. The clamor grew louder and louder, a deafening roar.
"The current Supre Martial Commander has a deep thirst for killing! He has no regard for the law and lacks the virtue for his position! He must be removed imdiately and handed over to the Patrol and Arrest Team for handling!"
"Commander Han Shaobai is a young and promising leader whose excellent character is plain for all to see. He is truly deserving of holding the Great Seal of the Commander."
In every street and alley, in tea houses and taverns, in all public places, the na Han Shaobai was on everyone's lips, the buzz rising and falling endlessly. One could say his na was sung by thousands.
Faced with such a spectacle, Han Shaobai naturally did not ignore it. He imdiately made a public statent that was both concise and to the point, thanking everyone for their sentint but stressing that the final decision was up to the Elders' Court, urging them to restrain their praise. He was exceedingly polite, yet he pushed all the pressure onto the Elders' Court, killing two birds with one stone.
As a result, the cries grew even more intense, now taking aim at the Elders' Court.
"The downfall of certain individuals is truly what the people want! First, we had Young Master Tang Yunfeng of the royal family, and now General Han Shaobai has entered the fray. The ambitions of those who want to use their high positions to dominate the court are dood to fail."
"It is young talents like General Han Shaobai who are the hope and future of this country!"
"We hope that when General Han Shaobai ascends to his position, Young Master Tang Yunfeng will attend the ceremony."
Those making such pleas were, naturally, from the Chenlong Martial District. Just imagine, with Tang Yunfeng's status, if he were to attend, not only would Han Shaobai gain trendous face, but the entire Chenlong Martial District would bask in reflected glory.
For the ti being, Han Shaobai paid no mind to these voices. For him, the urgent matter was to deal with the Martial Guard of Hanyun Valley and avenge Lord Ye Kuan. Subsequently, he issued another order, implying that the Jingnan Prince's actions had disgraced the Martial Departnt. Since Chen Yang was ignoring the issue and letting his subordinates act recklessly, he, the Peerage King, would have to discipline them in his stead.
"If Chen Yang hadn't been summoned by Young Master Tang Yunfeng, I, Han Shaobai, would have pointed right at his nose and asked him if he even knows how to lead troops! If not, he should get lost, and the sooner the better!"
His words were fierce and resounding. This statent naturally sparked another wave of admiration, while also subtly criticizing the Elders' Court for their poor judgnt in allowing soone so unscrupulous and utterly lacking a conscience to rise to power.
Another wave of excitent rippled through the elites, who suggested that Han Shaobai should discuss the matter with Tang Yunfeng and order Chen Yang to present himself before the great Commander Han.
Basking in triumph, Han Shaobai grinned broadly, staring down at Liu Wu under his foot. "You worthless cur, Chen Yang is already despised by everyone. Don't even think he can co save you."
"Do as I said, and you still have a chance to live."
The overcast sky began to drizzle. A damp chill spread through the air as the day grew ever more gloomy under the oppressive dark clouds. With the falling rain, the once-boisterous Cangyun City suddenly beca deathly silent. It was incredibly eerie.
What followed was a collective gasp of shock, a sound that nearly drowned out the patter of the rain. The reason for it was a video.
In the video, Tang Yunfeng was on his knees, kowtowing repeatedly while confessing his cris. He admitted that the arranged marriage was a lie, a pretense for his true desire to trample on Chen Yang for his own gratification. He declared that he was nothing special and should never have ordered around the highly decorated Supre Martial Commander, nor should he have ddled in the internal affairs of the Martial Departnt. The sins he had committed, he said, were too nurous to docunt. He begged the other party for forgiveness and to be spared.
"This… this…"
"Young Master Tang Yunfeng… who is he kowtowing and apologizing to?"
"Who else could it be but the Supre Martial Commander? Did you all naively believe that our War God of the State was actually going to pay respects to a young master from the royal family?"
Suddenly, the world fell quiet. This was especially true for the powerful elites who had just been viciously slandering Chen Yang while worshipping Tang Yunfeng as a deity. Now, their hearts pounded in their chests, their faces ashen.
At the end of the video, only the sound of footsteps could be heard. Then, a pair of bloodstained white gloves dropped to the ground, and the video ended.
As the two figures in the video departed, the scene was left in a dead silence.
"Now this is going to be a good show. Let's see if Han Shaobai can still act so smug after watching this!"
"He called Chen Yang and the Hanyun Valley Martial Guard worthless trash. I'm afraid he's about to lift a rock only to drop it on his own feet."
Along the banks of the Eight Hundred Li Hongzhi River, the drizzle fell like silk.
After watching the video in its entirety, Han Shaobai nearly collapsed. One hand wiped cold sweat from his brow while the other clutched his phone in a death grip. Monts ago, he had been acting like a king presiding over his domain. Now, his gaze was unfocused, and he trembled violently. Those… those were people from the South Pole Royal Family! He just killed them, just like that?!
"Ahem."
Han Shaobai dropped his phone and moved to help Liu Wu up, forcing an awkward chuckle. "Ah, Brother Liu Wu, a misunderstanding. This was all a misunderstanding, I can explain."
"A misunderstanding?" Liu Wu said, blinking once before a savage grin spread across his face. "Does this an my Boss has already dealt with that so-called Young Master Tang and is on his way here?"
"PTUI!" Liu Wu spat a thick glob of phlegm right in Han Shaobai's face. "You ordered my Boss to kowtow to you? Called him worthless trash? Demanded that our Hanyun Valley Martial Guard kneel and listen to your lecture?"
"And now you're telling it's a misunderstanding?" Liu Wu scrambled up from the ground. "You," he said, pointing a finger at Han Shaobai's nose. "Why don't you keep acting so arrogant to now?"
Han Shaobai was speechless. This… this!
Wiping the phlegm from his face, Han Shaobai's mouth twitched, and he felt like dying. He quickly lowered his posture, bowing and scraping. "Brother Liu Wu, I was impulsive. I apologize."
SCREECH!
The sharp sound of brakes cut through the air, making Han Shaobai go rigid. His followers trembled, struggling to remain standing. How… How did he get here so fast?
"Peerage King? I wonder, with whom do you intend to stand shoulder-to-shoulder?"
The indifferent voice drifted over. Though only a few words, they struck Han Shaobai like a bolt of lightning, chilling him to the bone. He turned with great difficulty, his head bowed low, and managed a cheerful greeting. "Your subordinate greets the Supre Martial Commander."
"So you still recognize as the Commander?" Chen Yang glanced at Liu Wu. Before he could say more, Han Shaobai interjected hastily, "I was just thinking of having a friendly spar with the Jingnan Prince, but the ground was slippery from the rain, and Brother Liu Wu fell. It's all my fault."
He then turned to Liu Wu. "Isn't that right, Brother Liu Wu?"
BOOM!
Yang Hu raised his hand and sent Han Shaobai flying several ters with a single slap. His gaze was fiery, radiating a chilling intent. "A friendly spar, was it? Co on, tell , how exactly were you 'sparring'?"
Giving up all pretense, Han Shaobai dropped to his knees and begged, "Sir, sir! It's a misunderstanding! Please, give a chance to explain."
"Boss, I've caused you trouble," Liu Wu said, taking the initiative to admit fault.
Chen Yang patted his shoulder and smiled. "You did nothing wrong. How could you have caused any trouble?" He paused, his gaze shifting back to Han Shaobai. "On the other hand, so people seem determined to help a tyrant in his cruelty."
Chen Yang's eyes narrowed. "Peerage King, was it?"
Han Shaobai could only tremble in silence.
