Dead silence hung in the air for a long mont.
HISS.
It was followed by a chorus of sharp, indrawn breaths.
The mighty Chen Family Patriarch… defeated?!
Even with the proof right before them, many people still rubbed their eyes frantically, unable to believe what they were seeing.
How could he be this strong?
Clutching his mangled, bloody chest, Chen Linan used his free hand to struggle back to his feet. He stared at Chen Yang in terror, unable to utter a single word for a long ti.
His mind was in turmoil, a storm of emotions raging within him. He had racked his brain, but he could never have imagined that this young man would be so terrifyingly powerful. Though he had yet to enter the Earth Saint realm, he stood at the absolute peak of the Human Saint realm. Logically, crushing a novice who had just beco a Saint should have been effortless. And yet... he had been utterly routed! The most crucial part? It had only taken two moves.
The Dharma Golden Body dissipated. Chen Yang's face was pale as he said coldly, "And you thought you could kill ?"
His words drew endless sighs from the crowd. It wasn't that Chen Linan was weak; it was that Chen Yang was too strong. So strong he barely seed human.
"Don't you get arrogant!" Chen Linan roared. His injuries were severe; if he fought again, he would almost certainly be killed.
"You should know," Chen Linan gritted his teeth, his voice laced with nace, "the Chen Family also has an Inner Court. Yes, you defeated , but you're still going to die! As for wiping out my Chen Family... you can pray you succeed in your next life."
WHOOSH.
Chen Yang moved. If he had been concerned about such things, the events of today would never have happened.
SWOOSH!
Without warning, a piercing shriek tore through the air, exploding from the distance as it ripped through the sky.
Before the crowd could react, a streak of chilling light shot straight for Chen Yang like a spear.
PFFT.
As fast as a flash of lightning, it drove straight into Chen Yang, piercing clean through his body and sending a spray of blood out the other side.
Chen Yang's body went rigid. He instinctively looked down to see a small, round hole in his abdon, blood already gushing from the wound.
"This…"
Everyone present was stunned. What kind of hidden weapon was that? Chen Yang didn't even have ti to react!
As the crowd reeled in confusion, a group of seven or eight people walked onto the field. Leading them was a pair of young siblings, strikingly handso and brimming with youthful energy.
The woman, in particular, had a lovely face and a tall, elegant figure. Her appearance imdiately outshone all the others, making her stand out like a radiant peony. Her expression was grim, her almond-shaped eyes fixed on Chen Yang with an intensity that suggested an irreconcilable feud between them.
The young man at her side, however, strolled leisurely with a faint smile on his lips. Then, he reached out his right hand. A Feather Arrow, gleaming with a dark tallic luster, shot back from the distance and landed squarely in his palm.
"Chen Bo?"
Chen Jinnan, who had stepped forward, recognized the man instantly. His eyes filled with deep vigilance, particularly as he noted the Feather Arrow in Chen Bo's hand.
His words sent a buzz through the crowd. Chen Bo, a direct descendant of the Chen Family's Inner Court. Rumor had it this man was a second Chen Hua. Given enough ti, it wasn't impossible for him to surpass the legendary Demon Monarch Chen Hua himself. He was a key figure being nurtured by the Inner Court.
The woman at his side was his sister, Chen Lan.
This Chen Lan was the girlfriend of Chen Xiao, the very sa Chen Xiao from the Inner Court who had been the main driver of the previous battle on the banks of the Qingyuan River. Their relationship hadn't suffered any rifts due to the separation between the Inner and Outer Courts, and Chen Xiao had been deeply liked by Chen Lan's parents, as well as by her older brother, Chen Bo.
This explained why Chen Lan, despite eting Chen Yang for the first ti, looked at him as if he were her sworn enemy. Although Chen Hua had been the one to kill Chen Xiao, the entire incident had been orchestrated by Chen Yang. How could she not burn with hatred now that her beloved boyfriend was dead?
"Did I arrive a little late? Seems I missed the most exciting part." Chen Bo wore a flippant expression as he swept his gaze over the crowd, his eyes finally landing on Chen Yang. "Cousin Chen Yang, your talent is truly remarkable. Even I am quite shaken."
"I heard you wanted to destroy our Chen Family, so I dared not delay." Chen Bo toyed with the Feather Arrow in his hand. It was a Treasure Weapon of the sa mid-grade as Su Ling's Traveling Dragon Sword. Caught off guard, it was perfectly normal for Chen Yang to have been powerless to defend against it. Fortunately, the strike had missed any vital spots.
"Now, it's true that whether the Outer Court of our Chen Clan is destroyed or not is of no great consequence. But it is, after all, the public face of our royal Chen Clan. And since it's our face, how can we let soone else smash it?"
"Wouldn't you agree, cousin?"
SNAP.
"Most importantly," Chen Bo said lightly, snapping his fingers, "you killed my sister's boyfriend, Chen Xiao. He was my future brother-in-law. As her older brother, how could I simply turn a blind eye?"
Chen Yang lowered his head, trying to stanch the bleeding, his heart still pounding with residual fear. Nearby, Chen Jinnan clenched his fists tightly. He shot Chen Bo a cold glare before turning his gaze to the battle platform across the Qingyuan River.
"Uncle, give up." Seeing Chen Jinnan's murderous stare, Chen Bo spread his hands nonchalantly. "The other three great royal clans have already arrived. It's anyone's guess if Chen Hua can even survive today. Don't pin your hopes on him."
"You can't bla for this. You can only bla our dear cousin Chen Yang for being so talented that he's scared the other royal clans witless."
"Divine Conquest... tsk, tsk." Chen Bo clicked his tongue, a flicker of intense jealousy and envy in his eyes. "Anyone with a chance of reaching that realm cannot be allowed to exist."
"Alright, now it's ti for to clean house." Chen Bo grinned, his eyes fixed on Chen Yang as if he were looking at a stray dog, filled not with sympathy or pity, but with utter disdain and ridicule.
"Clean house?" Chen Jinnan laughed. Chen Yang has already severed his connection to the Chen Family's Bloodline Power. What 'house' is there to clean? So people in this family truly have no sha.
"That's right! And of course, that includes you," Chen Bo said, his flippant deanor vanishing. He stood ramrod straight with his hands behind his back, his face a mask of arrogance. "With my talent, barring any surprises, the next Sovereign will be none other than ."
"You dare speak of talent in front of my son?" Chen Jinnan sneered. "Have you no sha?"
Chen Bo's face twitched, but he said nothing.
"You're several years older than my son. Have you beco a Saint yet?"
Again, Chen Bo was silent.
"Aside from sneak attacks with a Treasure Weapon, what else can you do?"
"HMPH!" Chen Bo's expression turned ugly. "Keep provoking , old man," he said coldly. "It will only make your death more miserable!"
WHOOSH.
Suddenly, a terrifying aura surged from the distant horizon. It felt like a dormant True Dragon, sending a chill down everyone's spines despite the imnse distance.
Chen Jinnan's face grew even more solemn. Is that the arrival of soone on par with a Sovereign?
Chen Yang also looked up instinctively, his eyes narrowing to slits. It seems I've truly underestimated the deep reserves of the royal clans.
