「Early the next morning.」
A ssage personally released by Yang Hu once again created a huge stir throughout Cangyun City. Chen Yang had accepted the challenge. No, to be precise, he had seized the initiative by cutting the waiting ti in half. There would be no seven-day wait. The ssage was simple: "In three days, I will co to kill you."
It was an overwhelmingly domineering declaration.
"That Forr Chief Military Commander is as overbearing as ever! Waiting for soone else to kill him just isn't his style!"
"Why do I feel so fired up? I believe he will definitely win!"
"If you ask , this battle won't be simple. If Tu Su wins, that's one thing, but if he can't, the entire Imperial Clan might get involved. That would probably lead to another bloodbath."
Discussions raged throughout the outside world. Many people speculated that if this battle were to happen, the scale of its impact could rival the two previous great battles at Qingyuan River. The Imperial Clan ruled above the four major royal families, possessing a profound foundation that commoners, let alone mbers of the royal families, could hardly imagine.
As one of the central figures in this incident, Chen Yang simply packed his bags and instructed Yang Hu, "Co out for a walk with ."
"Alright." Yang Hu nodded, then raised a bag of small liquor bottles with a laugh. "With liquor for the road, it won't be a dull trip."
Chen Yang smiled without a word.
After a four-hour drive on the highway, their minivan entered a small town on Qiyun Road as noon approached.
「Chu City.」
Its small bridges over flowing streams and slow-paced lifestyle always captivated people, making them reluctant to leave. Gazing at the scenery outside the window, Chen Yang found it all very unfamiliar. For one, he had not set foot in this city for many years. Had the last ti been ten years ago? Furthermore, the area where he used to live was confined to a small part of the West Suburb.
Ten minutes later, the minivan arrived at an orphanage in the West Suburb.
The three-story orphanage was exquisitely decorated, exuding a sense of understated luxury. The front yard was filled with all kinds of playground equipnt. If you didn't know any better, you would not doubt for a second that it was a private kindergarten.
Huh?
The vehicle had not yet co to a stop when Chen Yang, still looking out the window, raised an eyebrow. Right at the entrance, several luxury cars and so mid-range vehicles were slowly starting their engines and driving away. Vaguely, Chen Yang spotted a few familiar faces inside them.
Could those be so of the others from the orphanage?
"Boss, we're here," Yang Hu said after parking the car.
Chen Yang retracted his gaze and stepped out. Amid the bright sunshine and the endless chatter of children, Chen Yang stretched lazily, a smile unconsciously curling his lips.
More than twenty years ago, this place had been nothing but two dilapidated, tiled-roof houses. Whenever it rained heavily, basins had to be set out to catch the water, even on the beds. If a storm hit in the middle of the night, it would descend into chaos as everyone scrambled for basins, sotis ending up falling asleep while still holding them.
mories surged like a tide. Chen Yang smiled silently.
Here, he had spent the first ten years of his life.
"Everyone, put down your toys! Line up, wash your hands, and get ready to eat!" A thin, middle-aged woman in her fifties wearing an apron jingled a bell, her voice enticing. "Today is Tuesday, so we're having braised pork and cola chicken wings!"
"YAY!"
"I love Tuesdays! I wish every day was Tuesday!"
"Granny Fu, I love you to death!"
A burst of excited cheers erupted, so loud it seed they could pierce the sky.
"You bunch of little rascals, hurry up and wash your hands!" The middle-aged woman put one hand on her hip, feigning sternness, but the loving affection in her eyes was impossible to hide.
Witnessing this, Chen Yang smiled at Yang Hu. "This Granny Fu raised . I got my fair share of beatings from her back then."
"I'm sure you did. You must have been too mischievous, Boss," Yang Hu teased.
"Indeed," Chen Yang nodded, continuing, "I rember one ti, after getting a beating, I was so mad that I secretly let the air out of Granny Fu's bicycle tires. She was so furious her face twisted in anger."
"And then you got another thrashing?" Yang Hu pressed, clearly not intending to spare Chen Yang any face.
Chen Yang touched his nose awkwardly, his smile beaming.
"Chen... Chen Yang?"
After sending the children on their way, Granny Fu turned and caught a glimpse of Chen Yang and Yang Hu walking toward her. She was visibly stunned for a mont, then her eyes lit up. "It really is you, you rascal! How many years has it been? You still rember to co see ?"
As she spoke, Granny Fu walked toward them. Her tone was stern, but the smile on her face was so broad it couldn't be contained.
Chen Yang scratched his head and hurried forward to give her a hug, a wave of guilt washing over him.
The last ti he had visited was ten years ago.
"I know, you kids are all very busy. I was just talking," Granny Fu said, patting Chen Yang's back before changing the subject. "Right, you're here for the reunion, aren't you?"
"What reunion?" Chen Yang asked, puzzled. But then, thinking of the people who had just been leaving, he had an inkling.
"You don't know?" Now it was Granny Fu's turn to be confused. She pulled Chen Yang to sit down beside her and explained, "The children who were around your age back then arranged to have a get-together today. They ca here early this morning, brought a lot of things, and just left. They're probably on their way to a hotel."
Seeing that Chen Yang genuinely didn't know, Granny Fu said no more. After all, the fact that they hadn't invited him was a bit of an embarrassnt.
"Chen Yang, how have you been all these years?" Granny Fu changed the topic again. "The funds you provide every year are really too much, and you even stipulate that it all must be used! Your money doesn't grow on trees, so you should save where you can."
"These children are orphans who have suffered imnse psychological trauma," Chen Yang explained. "The least I can do is ensure they don't live worse than anyone else. That way, when they enter society, they won't feel inferior."
Chen Yang looked over at the group of children eating in the dining hall, a faint smile touching his lips. As for the money, he had established many businesses and made sound investnts in his early years. The annual dividends were more than enough to cover these expenses.
"Even so, you still should..." Granny Fu was still worried about Chen Yang's finances, but before she could finish, he cut in with a smile, "Granny Fu, I'm hungry. Can I get a bite to eat here?"
"You child, what a silly thing to say!" Granny Fu shot him a stern look. "Co on, let's eat together."
Instead of eating inside, Chen Yang took a al box and squatted under a large camphor tree, eating heartily across from Yang Hu.
Yang Hu glanced at Chen Yang from ti to ti, a different set of feelings stirring in his heart. He knew what the Boss was thinking. A great battle awaited him. If he didn't co for a visit now, whether he would have another chance in the future was another matter entirely.
"Chen... Chen Yang?"
Just then, a woman who looked to be about Chen Yang's age stared at him with a look of pleasant surprise. She wore a pink dress and high heels, her long hair tied up high. Her features were delicate and her deanor refined, making it clear she lived a prosperous life.
"Xia Chu," Chen Yang said, getting to his feet and giving a small wave with his chopsticks in greeting.
