Outside Shisu Town lay the only road to the Northern Mountain region.
It was a path paved with mountain stone, less than five ters wide. In the past, this area was overgrown with weeds and ho to wild beasts, making it a natural hunting ground for many. However, ever since news broke that a fragnt of an ancient map had appeared in the Northern Mountain region, the vegetation had been trampled flat, leaving only bare earth. Despite the ti that had passed, a steady stream of people still made their way to the mountains along this route.
At this very mont, everyone on the path, whether they were heading up the mountain or coming down, stopped dead in their tracks. Their eyes were all fixed on a patch of barren land before them, where fresh blood stained the brown stones crimson. The grueso scene was shocking, enough to send a chill down anyone's spine. It was brutally violent.
CLANG!
Standing alone to one side was a woman in a blue dress. Her face was ethereally beautiful, yet her expression was as cold as frost. In her hand, she held a longsword dripping with blood.
Not far from her stood an old crone wrapped in a black robe. She hesitated for a mont but ultimately chose not to step forward.
Facing the woman was a group of more than a dozen n, each wielding a longsword. Their faces were grim, and their potent killing intent surged toward the heavens.
"Gu Zhiqing, is this rebellion?!" the middle-aged leader of the group demanded icily. His eyes narrowed to slits, a cold light flickering within them. "If you know what's good for you, surrender at once!"
"What wrong have I done?" Gu Zhiqing asked, her face an expressionless mask.
"Heh..." The middle-aged man, Elder Gu Qingshan of the Biluo Sword Valley, sneered. "You have the gall to ask that? Fine. I'll list your cris one by one."
"First, the Sword Valley sent you to the secular world to assist the Imperial Clan's leader in killing Chen Yang. Yet when Tu Cunshan requested your help, you turned a blind eye.
"Second, at the foot of Yuning Mountain, Gu Shuheng was injured right in front of you. Not only did you fail to help, but you stood by and watched as he was killed.
"Third, before the Red Lotus Valley, many disciples of our Biluo Sword Valley died. Why did you not act?"
At this, Gu Qingshan's voice rose sharply as he questioned her harshly, "Any one of these three cris is a capital offense! We are taking your exceptional talent into account, seeing you as soone worth cultivating, so we were only going to bring you back to the Biluo Sword Valley, not take your life.
"But you! Instead of obeying, you resisted and even killed our own clansn! That is your fourth cri!"
His words were irrefutable; after all, he spoke the truth. But Gu Zhiqing remained impassive, her face a seemingly permanent, unchanging mask. "I, Gu Zhiqing, am alone. Whether the people of Biluo Sword Valley live or die has nothing to do with ."
Gu Qingshan was left speechless. His expression shifted dramatically, and he opened his mouth several tis but was at a loss for words.
To be honest, it was all because of a man, a past romance... They really had broken this woman's heart. The Gu Zhiqing of the past was nothing like this.
He'd heard that after the man died, Gu Zhiqing had locked herself in her room and cried for three days straight. When she erged, she severed all ties with the Biluo Sword Valley. At the ti, no one took her seriously, assuming they were just words spoken in anger. They thought she would get over it once her temper cooled. However, the events of the past few days proved that Gu Zhiqing had truly turned against them, leading to the standoff today.
Gu Zhiqing was a rare prodigy, and even an organization as powerful as the Biluo Sword Valley valued her imnsely.
After a long pause, Gu Qingshan finally spoke, his tone softening considerably. "Zhiqing, we were wrong about that matter, it's true, but what's done is done. The Valley Master asked to tell you that he will do his best to make it up to you in other ways, hoping to earn your forgiveness.
"We are clansn, after all. We share the surna Gu and the sa blood flows in our veins. How can we kill each other? Look around you. Do you want to make us a laughingstock?"
He then forced a smile. "You've killed so of our people, so your anger should have subsided. Why don't you co back with your uncle, alright?"
"Get lost!"
Gu Qingshan was stunned into silence. So was everyone else. The onlookers clicked their tongues in astonishnt.
Regardless of whether Gu Qingshan was being insincere, he had at least made a public show of reconciliation. Logically, Gu Zhiqing should have accepted the olive branch. And yet... this woman was just too unyielding.
"Gu Zhiqing!" The muscles on Gu Qingshan's face twitched violently, his eyes blazing with fury. "What more do you want?!"
"From now on, you are you, and I am I. Let our paths never cross again," Gu Zhiqing stated flatly.
Gu Qingshan sneered. "You were born in the Biluo Sword Valley and raised in the Biluo Sword Valley. We spared no expense to cultivate you, and now you say our paths should never cross? Do you really think that's possible?" He paused, his voice dropping to a deadly whisper. "Gu Zhiqing, don't force my hand."
CLANG!
With a backhanded motion, Gu Qingshan drew his sword. With an alarming CRACK, a terrifying gash split the ground, extending from his feet for dozens of ters.
Such was the terrifying might of a Half-step Divine Conquest expert. His strength far surpassed that of Tu Cunshan or Gu Tai; he had one foot planted firmly in the realm of Divine Conquest. With a single draw of his sword, his aura surged, splitting the earth for a full eighty ters.
At the sa ti, the hundreds, perhaps thousands, of onlookers all focused their gazes on Gu Qingshan. Their faces were etched with terror, their throats dry. Though their nerves were stretched taut, they couldn't suppress the thrill of excitent and anticipation that bubbled up inside them. Still, they all began to back away. Gu Qingshan was simply too powerful; the consequences of being caught in the crossfire were unimaginable.
ZING!
Gu Qingshan ran his index and middle fingers along the blade, and the sword let out a clear, deafening cry. A sharp aura and a dense killing intent swept out in all directions.
"Gu Zhiqing, I am giving you one last chance!" His roar was like a thunderclap, the sound waves rolling outward.
A dead silence fell, so profound one could hear a pin drop. Only the drumming of the wind broke the stillness.
A mont later, Gu Zhiqing raised her sword, prepared to fight to the death. A razor-sharp beam of light tore through the air, slicing through the void as its edge aid directly at Gu Qingshan.
Gu Qingshan sneered, a sense of grim acceptance washing over him. He had said all there was to say. Since she remained so obstinate, his only choice was to eliminate her.
He raised his sword and, with a simple block using the flat of the blade, effortlessly deflected Gu Zhiqing's attack. The beam of light from her sword dissipated.
Gu Zhiqing took a step forward, sword still in hand.
BOOM!
Gu Qingshan was forced back a step. The ground beneath him exploded, sending dust and debris flying.
"Gu Zhiqing, today you have officially committed treason against the Biluo Sword Valley! As an Elder, I, Gu Qingshan, will carry out the law on behalf of the Valley Master and sentence you to death!"
