Li Feng rolled down the car window and looked at a middle-aged man with slightly graying hair outside the window. Before Li Feng could speak, Mu Yuyan, sitting in the passenger’s seat, flushed crimson.
"Dad."
The next second, Mu Yuyan also saw her mother walking over from behind her father, and they were caught red-handed.
"Mom."
"So it’s you again, kid. I thought you’d learned your lesson and given up on chasing my daughter. What, you’re shalessly pursuing her again?"
Mu Yuyan’s mother squinted at Li Feng with a tone that was soft but laced with thorns.
"Young man, since you’re here anyway, would you like to co upstairs for a sit?"
Mu Yuyan’s father, however, was all smiles, inviting Li Feng upstairs, though whether it was a trap was yet to be known.
"Mum, Dad."
Mu Yuyan quickly opened the car door and got out, walked around the car to stand in front of her mother, and gave her a hug.
"What, can’t own up to it? Or just feeling guilty like a thief?"
Mu Yuyan’s mother wasn’t about to let Li Feng off the hook. With such pressure, how could Li Feng back down? If he were to flee in disgrace, that wouldn’t be in his nature.
Even if it was stepping into Dragon Pond and Tiger Cave, Li Feng had to go through with it.
"Uncle, Auntie, then I’ll take you up on your offer."
Li Feng opened the door and got out, while Mu Yuyan herself blushed deeply. Was this eting the parents? The problem was, she had no idea what she was to him right now.
The group of four headed upstairs.
"Have a seat. No need to be polite at ho," Mu Tiantao said to Li Feng, sizing him up. He looked quite impressive.
"Dear, go fetch that jar of First Grade tea leaves and brew so."
"You do spoil him."
Mu Yuyan’s mother rolled her eyes at Mu Tiantao. Those First Grade tea leaves were not cheap and were definitely not the "fake" kind found in the marketplace but were picked from hundred-year-old tea trees. Moreover, they were a gift from one of the old man’s well-performing students, rumored to be worth over ten thousand for that small jar.
"Hurry, go on."
Mu Tiantao urged and then surveyed Li Feng: "Are you pursuing my daughter?"
Li Feng hesitated for a mont: "You could say that."
"It’s either yes or no. What’s this ’could say’? You don’t seem very sincere, kid. What, my daughter’s standards are too high, too difficult to pursue, so you’re hesitating?"
Mu Tiantao looked at Li Feng.
"Dad."
Mu Yuyan interjected with a coquettish sound from the side, thinking about the two encounters she had with Li Feng. He never even pursued her; he simply assud she was his girlfriend without ever asking her opinion.
Li Feng chuckled to himself. He hadn’t intended to beco involved with Mu Yuyan, but who would have thought Chu Wei would drag her into this ss.
Now, not only did Zhu Jun and the others think of Mu Yuyan as his girlfriend, but her parents probably thought the sa. And judging by Mu Yuyan’s hesitant look in the car earlier, she seed to believe it too.
How could Li Feng explain, say it was all just a joke?
Mu Yuyan must hate him now. He had stated things straightforwardly, but now that Mu Yuyan was involved, would Lin Wanzhou let it go just like that? And there’s also Xu Ziang from today.
"Yes."
Li Feng weighed his options for a mont before nodding; at least for now, he had a reason to protect Mu Yuyan. Otherwise, if she beca petulant, wouldn’t he be harming her?
While they were talking, Mu Yuyan’s mother brought over a set of dishes, fine purple clay teaware with delicate teacups. Clearly, Mu Yuyan’s father was a tea connoisseur.
Mu Tiantao poured a cup of tea with the purple clay teapot. "Here, try this tea."
Li Feng glanced at Mu Tiantao and didn’t just gulp it down. The man was obviously well-versed in tea; Li Feng delicately sniffed the tea fragrance by his nose, his hand gently swirling, causing ripples in the jade green tea. Leaves unfurled within the cup, evoking an infinite sense of spring.
Afterward, Li Feng took a careful sip, tasting it, the entire process smooth and graceful, clearly that of a seasoned tea drinker. Mu Tiantao, who was evaluating Li Feng as he sipped, believed in the saying, "The quality of the tea reflects the character of the person."
Those who appreciate tea couldn’t be too bad.
"It appears you’re also versed in tea. How is my tea?"
Mu Tiantao took interest, Li Feng’s tea-drinking deanor didn’t suggest a beginner’s awkwardness; it wasn’t a last-minute act.
"Hmm, this tea at first glance has tight, curly leaves like snails, showing off its silvery pekoe. The green amidst the silver is hidden yet present, and the young buds and leaves gently unfurl after steeping, fluttering up and down. The liquid is a silver-tinted green, clear and fragrant, with a cool and sweet taste that’s refreshing and stimulates the saliva – truly first grade."
Li Feng offered his praise.
Hearing Li Feng’s words, Mu Tiantao’s face broke into a smile. "Looks like you know your tea. Co, have another cup."
Mu Yuyan’s mother watched from the side, rolling her eyes. She knew her husband was obsessed with tea and worried this young man’s few words might endear him to her husband enough to practically sell their daughter.
"This tea is, of course, exquisite. Only three to five ounces here, yet it’s worth nearly a hundred thousand. You usually can’t bear to drink it, but today you’re quite generous."
After speaking, Mu Yuyan’s mother turned to Li Feng. "Right, what was your na again? You’ve been out of sight for so many days, I thought you’d given up. I didn’t expect you to be so persistent. And last ti you ntioned you would pass the judicial examination, did you?"
Li Feng coughed, noting that she still rembered.
"Well, I forgot."
Mu Yuyan’s mother was relentless, her arms crossed as she looked at Li Feng with amusent. "You forgot? Are you sure it isn’t because you failed?"
"If you had passed, you likely would’ve co to visit sooner, right? Are you planning a sneak attack, to win over my daughter first and then use that as leverage for other things?"
Mu Yuyan’s mother gazed sharply at Li Feng.
"Mom, what are you talking about? We aren’t even at that point yet," Mu Yuyan said, biting her lip.
Seeing her daughter’s bashful face, Mu Yuyan’s mother thought: How can she say they’re not at that point? Should they wait until a child is on the way before admitting it?
"Young man, let’s speak frankly. If you want to pursue my daughter, I’m not opposed. After all, it’s ti for n to marry and won to wed."
"Since we’ve t again today, there’s no better day than the present. Last ti, I didn’t ask about your details. Since you keep pestering my daughter, let’s settle this today."
"Don’t say I’m being materialistic, but in marriage, it’s better for families to be well-matched."
Li Feng looked at Mu Yuyan’s mother; was this the mother-in-law facing the son-in-law, ready to start interrogation mode?
"Ask away."
Li Feng pondered secretly that this might be for the best. If Mu Yuyan’s parents objected, he could extricate himself after everything was resolved, as he couldn’t make any promises to Mu Yuyan.
"Who else is in your family, what do your parents do, what’s your current job, how much do you earn? My daughter is a local from Sea City, naturally she wouldn’t marry and move away. Can you afford a house in Sea City?"
