Evan, along with other people, was running as fast as he could. His leg muscles were hurting, he was running out of breath, and his endurance was about to reach its limit.
This was not only the case for Evan but also for the other people. Almost everyone was breathing heavily, so were crying, and so were even screaming.
The reason why he and the others were running was because mindless creatures called Half Deads were following them.
Evan, seeing the situation, was extrely sad because neither could he help himself nor others.
’Great Heavens, why are you doing this to us!’ said Evan to himself in tears.
’I don’t want to die this young!’
Just yesterday, Evan had turned eighteen and had made many plans for his future.
He was a handso guy with a sharp jawline, sharp eyebrows, a small pointed nose, and a fair face with thin lips.
But to think that he was going to die in such a state, killed by these ugly creatures, caused him to feel remorse for coming to the restricted zone to help people.
’No, Evan, don’t think like this. People should be helped even though the Governnt does not allow going to the restricted zone.’
The restricted zone was a place where the disease that gave birth to Half Deads was found, triggering humans to turn into mindless creatures, not even recognizing their family.
Evan, along with his friend, ca to the restricted zone to help the people caught there escape.
However, his friend sacrificed himself for him and got bitten by a Half Dead, turning into one of them.
Now, the Half Deads were extrely close to him and the other people.
’How could the Governnt be so selfish,’ said Evan, seeing so people carrying their newborn babies.
The main threat right now was that it was dusk, and at night the Half Deads grew even stronger and more dangerous.
In daylight, they had the strength of a normal human. Their speed was slow, but they had unlimited endurance.
However, at night, they had the strength of two humans, normal speed, and self-healing, causing a serious threat.
Evan, seeing the situation, knew there was no way out.
Suddenly, he stopped running. Seeing him, the other people stopped too.
’As you all must know, as it is pretty obvious from the situation, there is no way out.’
’So don’t stop, just run. I will handle the Half Deads, otherwise no one is going to get out alive.’
The people did not want to leave Evan, as he was their savior.
However, seeing the situation, they knew they did not have any other option, so they simply nodded and started to run towards the exit.
’Ah, Evan, who knew this was going to be your last day? Well, you chose this path, now complete it,’ said Evan to himself.
’You guys want to fight? Then co on!’ Evan shouted.
The Half Deads made their usual sounds.
’gyah’
’gyah’
’gyah’
Evan ran into the Half Deads and punched one, then two, then three.
However, soon enough, he got caught by the overwhelming crowd.
Still refusing to accept defeat, he kicked and punched and even bit so of the Half Deads, but soon he lost control over his body.
He could feel their teeth thrusting deep into his legs, arms, chest, and neck. His blood was being sucked from every part of his body.
’Don’t worry, Evan, this will be over in an instant,’ he said to himself, but he cried when he saw his friend trying to eat him too, his face covered in blood.
’I couldn’t even beat up school bullies, how could I think of saving these people? Even though they ran, there is no guarantee that the guards will let them go.’
The people living in the restricted zone were ordered not to leave their hos under any circumstances.
But the food and water inside their hos had run out. So had even died because of starvation.
Evan, seeing what was happening, decided to help them escape the restricted zone and live in the normal world.
However, he did not anticipate being bitten by a group of Half Deads.
After a minute, the Half Deads who were biting him stood up to chase the humans they were previously chasing.
Slowly, Evan’s consciousness began to fade.
’Looks like I am going to beco a Half Dead too,’ said Evan to himself.
He had died, with no feeling inside him. The Half Deads were still lurking around, trying to find other humans.
Although Evan had died, he could still feel that he was sowhere.
It was a dark room with no end, but he could feel the darkness and an overpowered entity.
Evan did not know how much ti he was there, it could have been a second or even a century.
White smoke started to fill the darkness, and suddenly, a blue-colored screen with white text appeared in front of him.
On it was written.
[ DO YOU WANT TO BE REBORN? ]
And below it, two options were given.
[ YES ] OR [ NO ]
Evan’s consciousness had returned, so he could think again.
’What does this an? I can live again?’
’Why does this feel like a video ga though?’ Evan thought.
Evan did what any other person would do. He did not know how, but when he willed to choose the "YES" option, it was automatically selected. Because what does a man want more than life itself?
After he chose the option, a new ssage appeared.
[ ARE YOU SURE ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS ACTION? ]
[ YES ] OR [ NO ]
He willed "YES" again, and it was automatically chosen.
Next, he felt a burning sensation so intense that he wished he had died. His entire body trembled as sothing inside him began to move.
A cracking sound echoed as his bones started reforming, and he felt sothing hard attaching to his back.
Then, it felt as if a snake was slithering through his veins, spreading a terrifying heat throughout his body.
His muscles tightened, his skin stretched, and new bones seed to grow in his face, arms, chest, and legs.
Soon, he felt blood rushing through him again, flowing beneath his skin.
Finally, his teeth began to grow, and his canines extended longer than the others, sharp and unnatural.
A strange chill spread through his body, yet it felt oddly comforting. His senses sharpened, every sound clearer, every scent stronger, and an unfamiliar hunger stirred deep within him.
Soon, he felt himself soaked in blood, lying on the ground.
He opened his eyes and saw he was at the sa place where he had been bitten by the Half Deads. He stood up and saw them about 100 ters away.
The screen appeared again.

After a minute, another page appeared.

’What? I am a vampire! Isn’t that sothing from storybooks that kids read?’
Evan could feel his aura, it was overwhelming and strong. But it was not only Evan who could feel it; the Half Deads reacted to his aura, and all of them started walking quickly toward him.
Evan did not know how, but he could sense that the number of Half Deads ranged between 100 and 150.
He also felt an extre thirst, a thirst for blood, a thirst to kill.

’How am I supposed to kill them!’
’And why do I need to level up----wait, is it what I think it is?’ said Evan, laughing.
’But it is not right if I kill them it ans I am killing humans, well not exactly but, no Evan you have to do it otherwise other humans will be killed and if I kill them I will level up and probably get stronger and will be able to save other humans in the future’
Evan sighed and saw that the moon was shining brightly in the sky, aning it had been at least an hour since he had died.
A Half Dead ca close to Evan and tried to bite him.
’Wait---what the hell was I thinking? Can I even kill them? I am just going to die again, oh no its too close to now.’
The Half Dead lunged toward him.
’Damn it!’
With no ti left to think, he swung his fist instinctively.
CRACK.
The creature’s head flew off its body.
Evan froze and felt his heart go cold.
’What?’
He stared at his hand, then at the corpse.
’I did that?’
His breathing slowed.
The fear in his chest weakened. The fear inside him faded. In its place, a new feeling rose, a mixture of power, strength, and sothing dangerously close to happiness.
’So I can kill them.’
’Hehehe’
’Co at and I shall show you what I’ve beco.’
