The Scythes in the Dark

Evan, who was alone in the hospital room, had no idea what the Jones family truly thought of him.

The private ward was quiet.

Too quiet.

The soft hum of dical equipnt filled the air while the faint sll of disinfectant lingered around the room. Moonlight filtered through the tall window, spilling pale silver across the floor.

Evan lay on the hospital bed, half-reclined, bandages wrapped around parts of his torso and arms.

Two hours had passed since the doctors finished treating him.

His breathing had stabilized.

But the humiliation still burned.

His fists slowly clenched against the bedsheets.

Julian D’Aurelius.

The na alone made his jaw tighten.

Just then—

The door opened quietly.

Four n in black suits walked in from outside.

Their movents were disciplined and silent, like shadows slipping into a room.

Each of them wore a ring on their right hand.

A black tal ring engraved with the image of a scythe.

The Scythe Image Ring.

This was the mark of the Scythe Division from the Obsidian Wing organization.

And within that organization, the Scythe Division represented sothing special.

Only the most skilled and experienced mbers could earn the right to wear that ring.

It was not simply decoration.

It was a badge of honor.

A symbol that the wearer had survived countless missions.

A symbol that they were among the deadliest blades under the Obsidian Kings.

This unit was also one of the most elite forces directly under Evan’s command—second only to the legendary Eight War Generals.

Originally, Evan had sent them to Valcenza to gather intelligence.

But today’s events had forced him to call them back early.

The four n entered the room and imdiately knelt on one knee.

"obsidian King!"

Their voices were deep and respectful.

Seeing Evan injured and lying on the hospital bed—

Their expressions instantly darkened.

Who were the fools who dared to ambush the Obsidian King?

Evan slowly raised his gaze toward them.

His black eyes carried a cold sharpness.

"How’s the intelligence gathering in Valcenza going?" Evan asked.

A figure moved ahead from the group.

A figure of noticeable height, he carried wide shoulders like old armor. Down his left cheek cut a scar, slanting as if drawn by haste.

Quiet monts defined him just as much as the sharp strikes did inside Scythe Division. Efficiency carved his reputation, cold but never careless. Thought ca before motion, always. Action followed only when silence gave way.

"We’ve investigated three major families and found so clues," one of them said.

Fingers gently passing the folder toward Evan.

Ahead of them, the remaining trio took their place. Behind ca the sound of footsteps matching his pace.

A thickset guy ca next, his scalp clean of hair. Stone could not have been harder than the shape of his arms, blue lines tracing up like wires under skin.

A wiry figure, he carried himself with stillness. Narrowed eyes watched without blinking - every step placed just so, as if silence shaped his path.

A boy among elders, yet his eyes held a coldness that spoke of battles far beyond his years.

Together -

Fear gripped even top warriors when facing just one of the group - four together? That shook bones. Each step they took carried weight enough to rattle seasoned blood. Experience ant little once their shadows crossed your path. Numbers didn’t explain it; sothing colder lived behind their eyes.

Into his hands went the file, pages turning under quick fingers. A pause ca after a few glances down each one.

The more he read—

The darker his expression beca.

Valcenza.

That city held far more secrets than he initially expected.

"Got it," Evan said finally, closing the file.

His voice lowered.

"Once I’m healed, I’ll personally make a trip to Valcenza."

He leaned back slightly against the hospital bed.

For now, he didn’t want to show his face in Valemont.

Not in his current condition.

His reputation had already taken damage today.

He would recover first.

Then return stronger.

His eyes shifted toward the four kneeling n.

"You four stay in Valemont," Evan ordered calmly.

"And kill Julian D’Aurelius, the eldest son of the D’Aurelius household."

The room fell silent.

The four n didn’t question the command.

But Evan continued speaking.

While lying on the hospital bed earlier, he had been thinking carefully.

Sothing had felt wrong.

He clearly rembered striking Julian with a powerful punch.

That attack should have severely injured him.

Yet Julian barely reacted.

More importantly—

The counterattack Julian delivered had carried sothing unusual.

Evan’s eyes narrowed.

Solar Mana Essence.

That energy was extrely distinctive.

It could only be cultivated by soone with the extrely rare Solar Body.

And across the entire nation—

Evan believed he was the only one who possessed it.

Which ant one thing.

Julian D’Aurelius was hiding sothing.

Sothing dangerous.

Sending the Scythe Division to test him was the best choice.

Even Evan himself would have a headache facing the four of them together.

First Man lowered his head slightly.

"Understood."

Second Man grinned faintly.

"One man?"

Third Man adjusted the cuff of his suit calmly.

"Shouldn’t be difficult."

Last Man only nodded silently and waved his hand.

"Go."

Without another word, the four n stood and left the hospital room.

Their footsteps were quiet.

But the intent behind them was deadly.

Tonight—

The hunt would begin.

------------

anwhile.

On the other side of Valemont.

A black luxury sedan rolled smoothly along the quiet road.

Inside the car sat Julian D’Aurelius and Uncle Zain.

Streetlights slid across the windshield like streaks of gold.

"Young Master Julian, are you satisfied with today?" Uncle Zain asked with a smile.

The older man looked extrely pleased.

Today had been an incredible display.

The famous Black Magic Exorcists from various sects had practically bowed before Julian.

The Valquin household was grateful.

The relationship between the two families had grown much closer.

And when Julian eventually took control of the D’Aurelius family—

Uncle Zain’s position would only rise higher.

Julian leaned back in the seat and sighed.

"Very satisfied, extrely satisfied."

But inwardly—

He was annoyed.

Looking at Uncle Zain, he felt an urge to complain.

This man had clearly leaked information earlier.

Julian even suspected sothing was wrong with his own luck.

Why did it feel like everyone around him was secretly plotting sothing?

And their plans were ridiculously thorough.

If these people were the Obsidian King instead of Evan—

They might actually do a better job.

Uncle Zain blinked slightly.

"So..."

His expression beca hopeful.

This ti he had helped Young Master Julian greatly.

Surely that deserved a reward.

Julian glanced at him.

Then sighed.

He reached into his pocket.

Pulling out a check.

A ten-billion Euro check.

He stuffed it into Uncle Zain’s hand.

He hadn’t wanted to take this money earlier.

But the Valquin family had insisted.

They said refusing would be dishonest.

Uncle Zain looked down at the number on the check.

His eyes widened.

Ten billion.

His hands trembled slightly.

Young Master Julian was indeed generous to his loyal followers.

"By the way, Uncle Zain," Julian said casually.

His tone sounded almost relaxed.

"Isn’t our family planning to develop a tourism project in Antarctica?"

Julian looked out the window at the passing city lights.

A faint smile appeared.

"I want you to be in charge of this project."
