Fireworks Beneath a False Moon

Finding the front door open, Evan placed his glass on the table - red wine still half full. The mont the carriage rolled up, quiet broke into voices.

A thin shake ran through the red fluid inside the glass when he set it down on stone. Up went his spine, smoothing the dark jacket, then ca the cuff tweak. Forward he moved - asured, quiet, one foot after another.

Up above at Lunar Citadel, the highest level beca soone’s personal dream world. Stretching from floor to ceiling, glass walls held the dark skyline of Valemont as if it were art that breathed. Beneath, urban glimrs sparkled, echoes of stars dropped carelessly onto land.

"Selena, you’re finally here," Evan said, his voice smooth and asured. "Did I not keep my promise?"

A slow grin tugged at the corners of his mouth.

A spark of victory showed deep inside his gaze.

A figure paused just inside the doorway, motionless. Long strands of dark hair fell past her shoulders without sound. Her gaze stayed fixed, ocean-deep and calm. Not a word ca from her lips. The dress she carried was navy, nearly black, tracing the line of her fra before spilling softly downward. Light caught it differently with each breath - subtle ripples, like water sleeping beneath stars.

Not far back, Shan Aurevale moved in with the rest, eyes wide at the lavish scene unfolding around them.

A soft clap ca from Evan’s hands.

Right away, workers guided out a huge dessert resting on a round glass stand. Not your usual fruit-filled treat - this one had tiers forming a white flower, creamy layers molded into open petals, each border touched with real silver coating you can eat. Placed carefully across the top: strawberry pieces, cut kiwi, and bright pink dragonfruit, set like precious stones. Small butterfly shapes made of hardened sugar sat lightly near the edge.

"I know you like fruit cake," Evan said gently, eyes fixed on Selena. "So I had this custom-made for you. But before we eat the cake... I have another gift."

Selena exhaled slowly.

Her expression turned serious.

"Evan, I don’t know who you really are, but I need to make sothing clear—"

Boom.

Her words were swallowed by the first explosion in the sky.

A streak of gold pierced the darkness beyond the glass.

Then—

The night erupted.

Fireworks burst open like celestial chrysanthemums, red and gold cascading across the sky. Purple arcs collided with sapphire sparks. Silver threads fell like a rain of stars.

The entire horizon ignited.

Gasps filled the room.

Outside, people on the streets of Valemont stopped mid-step. Drivers slowed their cars. Couples on balconies leaned over railings.

Another wave of fireworks surged upward.

This ti, they didn’t just bloom—they ford shapes.

A massive phoenix unfurled across the sky, wings blazing in scarlet fla before dissolving into glittering embers.

Then ca a spiral of golden peonies, each petal opening with thunderous applause.

Even those outside Lunar Citadel were captivated.

Phones rose into the air like a forest of glowing branches.

Strears redirected their caras.

"What is happening tonight?!"

"Is this a festival?"

"Wait—look! Words are forming!"

As the final burst of that sequence ignited, the sky rearranged itself.

Brilliant white sparks aligned carefully.

"Selena, Happy Birthday."

The letters burned bright above Valemont.

Inside the hall, silence thickened.

"Oh my god... it’s the Aurevale Household’s eldest daughter’s birthday?"

"So romantic... how much did this cost?"

"How many millions just exploded into the sky?"

The fireworks didn’t stop.

They intensified.

Golden teors streaked horizontally, crisscrossing like swords before bursting into heart-shaped constellations. Cascades of shimring blue sparks rained down in curtains.

Ten minutes passed.

And still, the sky was alive.

From this height, Lunar Citadel offered the clearest view.

The Aurevale Household stood frozen.

Shan Aurevale’s fingers trembled slightly as he watched.

This was influence.

This was power.

When the final explosion faded—

Silence returned.

Then—

A soft chanical hum rose from below.

Thousands of drones lifted into the sky.

At least three thousand.

They ascended like a swarm of glowing fireflies, each emitting soft, colored light. Red, pink, gold, lavender—dots of brilliance against velvet black.

"Wow... there’s more?"

"How many drones are there? Three thousand? Four?"

"This birthday must have cost a fortune..."

The drones reached formation height.

They paused.

Then began to move.

Like brush strokes painting the sky.

They ford a luminous crescent moon.

Then a blooming rose.

Then—

A rotating crown.

Gasps rippled through the crowd below.

The drones shifted again.

This ti, they wrote:

"Selena Aurevale, You Deserve the World."

The letters shimred in pink and gold.

Inside the hall, the Aurevale Household mbers stared upward in awe.

Even Selena’s lashes trembled slightly.

Then the drones rearranged once more.

A giant beating heart pulsed in the sky.

Inside it—

"Forever Yours."

Evan’s chest swelled.

This spectacle...

It was perfect.

Bear had not disappointed him.

He turned to study the Aurevale Household’s faces.

Stunned.

Impressed.

Overwheld.

Good.

From today onward, they would understand.

Who truly held power in Valemont.

The light show lasted nearly ten minutes.

Each formation more elaborate than the last.

A ring encircling a star.

Two hands reaching toward each other.

Petals scattering into glowing butterflies.

Then—

The drones aligned one final ti.

"Selena, Happy Birthday."

The sky held the ssage for a long breath.

Just as the onlookers assud the show was ending—

The drones flickered.

They shifted.

The heart re-ford.

But this ti—

The lettering changed.

"Love, Julian D’Aurelius."

For a second—

No one spoke.

Not outside.

Not inside.

Even the wind seed to pause.

Evan’s smile froze.

The red wine glass on the table trembled faintly as his fingers tightened.

Selena’s pupils contracted.

Behind her, Shan Aurevale blinked twice, disbelief etched across his face.

Outside, the crowd erupted.

"Wait—what?"

"Julian D’Aurelius?!"

"Isn’t he the D’Aurelius heir?"

"Didn’t soone else book this floor?"

The drones held the ssage proudly against the night sky.

A blazing declaration.

"Love, Julian D’Aurelius."

And for the first ti that evening—

The triumph drained from Evan’s eyes.

The night no longer belonged to him.
