Gu Ning was still shivering, murmuring sothing under her breath.
When Alex heard Gu Ning’s voice, he thought she had woken up. He hurried to the bedside, sat down, and leaned in close to her.
"Cold..."
Alex didn’t understand what she said. Seeing that her eyes were still closed, he set the dicine and cup of water aside and gently propped her up, blanket and all.
He pressed the back of his hand against her face to check her temperature. It was even hotter than before, nearly surpassing the normal body temperature of a Beastman.
A Beastman’s body temperature can self-regulate according to the weather, staying between 39 and 40 degrees Celsius in the winter.
However, the normal body temperature of the young female in his arms was on the lower side, unlike theirs.
Alex was also perplexed by Gu Ning’s constitution.
So of the Beast Clan did have lower body temperatures, but Gu Ning was a Wolf Clan female, so her temperature should have been about the sa as theirs.
Alex scanned Gu Ning with the dical device, which showed her temperature had already reached 40.5 degrees Celsius.
Her temperature was normally only around 36 or 37 degrees Celsius. This was far too high for her.
The young female was still shivering violently, repeatedly murmuring a single word.
After listening for a mont, Alex realized she was saying "cold."
Alex wrapped her more tightly in the blanket and took out the fever-reducing injection that Jeff had prepared.
He hesitated for a mont, then put the injection down again.
’Jeff’s dicine was dosed for a Dwarf hybrid,’ he thought. ’Gu Ning is a female, and she weighs far less than a Mixed Breed of the sa size. She might not be able to handle this dosage.’
Seeing the young female’s face flushed crimson from the fever, Alex grew deeply worried. To be safe, he imdiately called Lanuo.
The call was hung up four or five seconds after it connected.
Usually, when Lanuo hung up, it ant he was in the middle of sothing extrely important.
Alex redialed.
After being hung up on three tis in a row, Lanuo finally answered.
"This had better be more important than the experint that could get a promotion," Lanuo said, his voice strained on the other end.
Alex gently rocked Gu Ning in his arms, his eyes on her vitals displayed on the dical scanner. "I sent you a dical report," he told Lanuo. "Take a look."
Lanuo pulled off his rubber gloves, tossed them on a table, and opened the report Alex had ntioned. He scanned it quickly. "Whose dical report is this?"
He heard the sound of another person’s breathing over the comm. "Is soone there with you?"
Alex sent him Jeff’s prescription, holding the terminal a little further away from Gu Ning. "Can you check if this dosage is correct?"
Lanuo no longer heard the other person’s breathing, so he turned his attention back to the report. He compared the dical report with the prescription. "This is for a fever. The dosage is quite low. Is this for a Dwarf hybrid?"
"No, wait," Lanuo said.
Alex’s expression instantly tensed.
Lanuo continued, "A temperature of 40 degrees Celsius... What species is this Dwarf hybrid?"
Alex paused, looking at the young female in his arms. "I’m not sure. Her normal temperature is around 36 degrees."
Lanuo said, "...Have you been drinking?"
Lanuo glanced at the experint he would have to restart from scratch, trying to rein in his temper. "You’d better say yes. It’s the only way I’ll forgive you."
Alex said, "She weighs about 45 kilograms. She has a fever, her temperature is still climbing, and she’s shivering nonstop."
Lanuo ran a hand through his ssy hair and slumped into a chair. "In that case, I suggest you take a gun and put it out of its misery."
Alex was silent.
Lanuo continued, "When are you going to get over this bleeding-heart problem of yours? You’re in Zone 19 to repair the wall, not run a charity. Why are you treating a fever for a Mixed Breed that’s about to mutate?"
Alex’s voice was grim. "She is not a Mutant Species."
Lanuo shot back, "Are you an idiot? Did you sleep through class when they taught the symptoms of a Mixed Breed’s mutation? Or has your ti in Zone 19..."
"She is not a Mutant Species," Alex cut him off, his voice low and firm, leaving no room for argunt. "Go wash your face and clear your head. Based on the symptoms I described, give an accurate dosage. As soon as possible."
Hearing the sheer seriousness in his tone, Lanuo sensed sothing was off. He pressed his temples, sat up straighter, and took another careful look at the dical report and the prescription.
This ti, he noticed sothing.
"You said that Dwarf hybrid weighs how much? Forty-five kilograms? With a normal temperature of 36 degrees Celsius?"
Alex confird, "That’s right."
Lanuo asked, "That’s very light. How old is it?"
Alex replied, "Around twenty."
"That’s a bit too light for an adult Dwarf hybrid," Lanuo noted. "What is its current condition?"
Alex listed the symptoms, "Unconscious, delirious, shivering, and labored breathing."
The more Lanuo heard, the more sothing felt off. ’Taken together, these symptoms don’t point to a mutation,’ he thought. ’The mutation process is when they’re at their most frenzied. How could it be unconscious?’
’Still, I’ve seen these symptoms before in so weaker Beast cubs. If the prescription didn’t clearly state it was a Dwarf hybrid, I’d think this was just a feverish Beast cub.’
"Are you sure it’s a Dwarf hybrid?" Lanuo asked. "You’d better double-check. Could it be a juvenile Mixed Breed or a Beast cub?"
Alex was silent for a mont, then said, "You’re right. It’s a Beast cub."
"Wait, no. You’re in Zone 19." Lanuo sighed, montarily unsure if it was Alex who needed to wash his face and clear his head, or if he was the one going crazy.
"Have you been working yourself into a frenzy lately?" Lanuo asked. "How could there be a Beast cub in Zone 19?"
’A juvenile Mixed Breed might be possible, though,’ he considered.
Alex looked at the young female in his arms. "Just write a new prescription based on the dosage for a Beast cub. She’s very weak, so she needs sothing milder."
Lanuo turned on the faucet and splashed cold water on his face. "Fine. I’ll send it to you in a minute."
"Oh, right," Lanuo said, rembering sothing. "How’s that Mimic Mixed Species of yours doing?"
Alex replied, "It’s locked up for now."
"Just get the prescription as soon as possible." Alex, his mind preoccupied with Gu Ning, didn’t want to talk any longer and ended the call.
’So weird,’ Lanuo thought, looking at the disconnected call. He wiped the water from his face and went to prepare Alex’s prescription, grumbling to himself.
Five minutes later, Lanuo sent the new prescription to Alex.
Alex was holding Gu Ning and blow-drying her hair. When he saw that Lanuo had sent the prescription, he imdiately opened and read it carefully.
After reading it, he forwarded the prescription to Jite, telling him to take it directly to the dical bay and get the dicine from Jeff.
"Who is this for?"
Jeff asked, looking at the prescription Jite had brought him.
Jite replied, "Just fill it. Fewer questions."
Jeff shot him a sidelong glance. "This is a pretty professional-looking prescription. Is it for that Mixed Breed from earlier?"
Jite said nothing.
Jeff flicked on a flashlight and walked over to the dicine cabinet. "I’m not trying to be nosy," he said as he began filling the prescription, "but I’d advise you to be careful. If you get caught bringing an underage Beast cub here, you’ll have to answer to the Beast Alliance tribunal."
Jite froze, then stamred, "It’s not an underage Beast cub."
Jeff’s ploy was a success. He drawled, "An underage Mixed Breed isn’t allowed either. Don’t you guys from Zone 5 know the Beast Alliance’s laws?"
