After delivering the "Audit" and making his speech, Kian Voss tossed the bloodied pipe aside and vanished into the shifting tides of the Underhive crowd.

He headed back toward the rcator Aqua's local precinct. Even from several blocks away, he could see the queue for the water pumps had grown. Thousands of "Sump-rats" were lined up from the Grand Lift all the way back to the shanty-districts, clutching empty canisters and praying the taps didn't run dry before they reached the front.

As Kian approached the gate, he saw Reno standing near the entrance, flanked by a dozen enforcers brandishing electrified batons. Reno spotted Kian and waved him through the security periter.

The Overseer was wearing a thin, satisfied smirk. The news of the "Audit" at the Matron's Hole had already traveled the two kiloters to the precinct.

"Ah, our Master Auditor," Reno chuckled. "You move with the speed of a bullet, Voss."

Kian didn't care for the nickna. "The job is done. I believe we have an invoice to settle?"

"Follow ."

Reno led Kian into the depths of the precinct. In the lawless Underhive, these Guild-run shops were islands of absolute Imperial authority. Here, the Enforcers and the PDF maintained a permanent presence. Anyone foolish enough to cause trouble inside a Guild shop would find themselves processed into servitor-paste before the sun rose.

Inside, the air was cool and humid. Massive, sweating conduits ran along the ceiling, feeding the distribution tanks. Reno took Kian to a back office and pointed to a reinforced plastic crate.

"Your fee. A hundred tabs and ten filters. All Guild-stamped and certified pure."

Kian cracked the crate. Inside were rows of foil-wrapped Standard Purification Tablets and ten heavy-duty Chemical Filtration Cartridges.

[MISSION COMPLETE: THE GUILD'S AUDIT]

[Reputation: Reno (Water Guild) Rank 0 → Rank 1]

[UNLOCKED REWARDS — GUILD COMMISSARY]

Adrenal-Caffeine Stims: 10 Scrips/vial. (Restores 100% Stamina instantly).

Hydro-Matrix Distiller: 5,000 Scrips. (Sanctum upgrade: Unlocks Brewing/Refining).

Guild Water Bladders: High-durability canteens.

Kian's eyes fixed on the Hydro-Matrix Distiller sitting in the corner of the office—a complex assembly of glass tubes and copper coils.

"How much for the distiller?" Kian asked.

Reno glanced at the machine. "That? I bought it thinking I'd brew so 'Recycled Moonshine' in my off-hours. But the Machine Spirit is temperantal; everything I brew cos out tasting like battery acid. It's taking up space. Give five thousand, and it's yours."

Kian didn't hesitate. He counted out 5,000 credits and handed them over. To Reno, it was a piece of junk. To Kian, it was a Sanctum Level 2 component.

Reno took the credits, then reached under his desk and pulled out a crate of golden-colored bottles. He handed one to Kian and popped the top off his own.

"Try this. It's a Mid-Hive Adrenal Stim. The clerks use it to pull double shifts in the Administratum. It'll keep you awake and focused for twenty-four hours."

Kian took a sip. It tasted like carbonated sugar mixed with a tallic tang—like Red Bull, but concentrated ten tis over. He felt a hum of energy vibrate through his teeth.

"I like it," Kian said. "I'll take the whole crate."

He paid another 180 scrips for eighteen bottles. Reno accepted the money with a nod. He respected the transaction. In the Hive, you didn't give gifts—you made deals. To give soone sothing for free was an insult; to pay for it was a sign of mutual strength.

"Voss," Reno said, leaning back in his chair. "You've proven you can handle the local filth. But I have a task that requires... a more 'surgical' touch. It involves the surface."

Kian leaned in. "Credits or equipnt?"

"Both. A lot of both." Reno's face turned serious. "Before the Secessionist Rebellion, the Guild operated a Hydro-Seismic Monitoring Station out at the Great Aquifer. It monitored the groundwater levels for the entire northern sector. The data is stored on a high-capacity Logistics Data-Slate inside the station's main cogitator."

Kian nodded. He rembered Rudolphson ntioning the Aquifer. It was a "Red Zone" overrun by rebels and sothing worse.

"The rebels took the station before our tech-priests could retrieve the slate," Reno continued. "Without that data, our distribution maps are useless. If you can bring that Data-Slate, I'll pay you 100,000 Agri-Scrips."

Kian's heart nearly stopped. 100,000. That was the exact price of a Mid-Hive Citizen Cog.

"A hundred thousand?" Kian asked, making sure he heard right. "The place is a fortress. Rudolphson says two PDF companies vanished there."

Reno reached into his pocket and pulled out a heavy, brass-toothed object. It was a Physical Master Key, stamped with the seal of the Water Guild.

"The monitoring station is split into a surface bunker and a sub-surface vault," Reno explained. "The vault is sealed with ten-ton plasteel blast doors. The rebels can't get in without lta-charges, which they don't have. But you have the key."

Kian took the brass key. His Tactical Cogitator pinged:

[Item: Hydro-Seismic Station Vault Key]

Rarity: Unique (Quest Item)

Utility: Unlocks the "Safe Room" in the Aquifer Map. Contains high-tier loot and the quest objective.

"Take the slate, and anything else you find in that vault is yours to keep," Reno said. "Do we have a contract?"

Kian gripped the key, the cold tal feeling like a promise of a new life in the Spire.

"One hundred thousand scrips," Kian whispered. "I'll have your data, Reno. Just make sure the Registry Office is ready to process my citizenship."
