Warhammer 40K: Veterans Surge Like a Torrent, Heretics Beg for the End Chapter 104 104: The Unceasing War
The Commander's voice, amplified by his loss of composure, imdiately echoed through the silent fortress.
The soldiers hiding in fear of attracting the Tyranids were startled, and they all looked up at the Commander.
The initial fear of attracting the Tyranids on their faces was replaced in an instant by expressions frozen in shock as they digested the aning of his words.
Then, after a collective mont of stunned silence, a scattered group of them stood up from the crowd that had been squatting all over the ground.
Simultaneously, countless pairs of eyes turned towards the window they had feared for so long.
However, their field of view was extrely narrow. Looking out, apart from glimpsing the still-endless Tyranid Swarm through a few gaps, they couldn't see any sign of Imperial troops cutting their way up.
Yet, the defenders didn't completely disbelieve it either. After all, visible through this sea of bugs, the battlecruiser directly crushing the Bio-Titan was particularly conspicuous, trailing vast plus of thick smoke.
It wasn't until the Commander in front, after standing dazed for a long while, his chest visibly heaving several tis as if psyching himself up, suddenly leaned his entire body out to look directly down the fortress's towering walls, that everyone's eyes finally snapped back and fixed tightly on the Commander.
What was strange was that the Commander, who had previously trembled with fear from just a glance outside, now, even with his whole body leaning out, not only didn't tremble but didn't even seem to pay the slightest attention to the Tyranid Gargoyles circling like dark clouds nearby.
He seed as if struck by a paralysis spell, frozen rigid at the window.
The defenders behind couldn't see, only exchanging puzzled and increasingly fearful glances, suspecting the Commander might have been spotted and remotely killed by the climbing Tyranids below.
Faced with the soldiers' aningful glances from behind, a nearby scout cautiously leaned out to check on the Commander. But before his gaze could even settle on his target, rely glancing downwards, he too seed to be hit by the 'paralysis spell'.
The soldiers behind grew even more bewildered. Finally, a bold one activated the long-silent surveillance platform. Faced with the suddenly bright projection, this ti, the paralysis spell descended from the Commander and the scout onto this group of Astra Militarum.
Because the scene they now witnessed, if it had to be described, after much thought, truly only matched the Commander's initial exclamation:
'They're really f*cking cutting their way up?!'
After all, once these soldiers personally witnessed a Mortal in gilded silver armor beheading a Tyranid Hive Tyrant with one sword stroke, then raising a Bolter to pick off Warrior Bugs one by one, they could no longer doubt the combat prowess of these strangers who had fallen from space.
Especially seeing those Astartes being shielded by the Mortals...
Huh? Wait!
The Astra Militarum froze in shock. They stared at the screen, even seriously pondering the thought that had just crossed their minds, and suddenly felt sothing wasn't quite right.
It wasn't until they looked back at the screen, confirming it was indeed Mortals shielding Astartes, that they averted their gazes again. Then, with dazed incomprehension, they exchanged looks.
'Is this scene real, or just a hallucination from being cooped up too long?'
The Astra Militarum were stunned. But their stupor was shattered as a thunderous impact suddenly resonated from the tightly sealed main gate, making everyone's hearts lurch.
