Chapter 1487: Section 1488: Life and Death Beyond One’s Control Chapter 1487: Section 1488: Life and Death Beyond One’s Control The resurrected Raven Knight and Calot steadily approached the trembling Lady Connie.

“Why? My dear Raven, why… I’m your mother, don’t you recognize anymore…” Lady Connie had eyes filled with grief and confusion, as she looked at the once familiar and deeply loved face that now had beco unfamiliar and sinister.

Why was this happening?

As the Raven Knight stood before Lady Connie, raising his long knight’s sword, Lady Connie felt the cold gleam of the blade and a sense of despair filled her heart.

Just as the knight’s sword was about to fall, the rustling sound of a stepped-on leaf ca from not far away.

The Raven Knight and Calot sharply turned their heads toward the dark forest. Accompanied by a rustling sound, a mountain cat—comparable in size to a small leopard—jumped out from the woods, its eyes warily fixed on the Raven Knight and Calot; its back arched, fur bristling, with a growl resonating from its throat.

Calot snorted coldly, his pitch-black eyes piercing through.

When it t that gaze, the impudent cat instantly lost its nerve. With a pitiful ow, it quickly fled into the depths of the forest.

Calot and the Raven Knight didn’t bother to chase it, planning to kill Lady Connie first.

But, when they turned back, they discovered that Lady Connie had vanished from the ground.

Calot was furious, but the Raven Knight did not show any emotion and pointed to a trail of blood on the ground. Lady Connie was seriously injured and it would be difficult for her to stop the bleeding soon, so as long as they followed the blood trail, they could definitely find her.

Exchanging glances, Calot and the Raven Knight took off running, blending into the darkness, and disappeared.

After Calot and the Raven Knight had left, Alex let out a quiet sigh of relief, his face puzzled as he looked into the darkness beyond, “Why have they co back to life?”

Not long before, Alex had seen with his own eyes the severed head of the Raven Knight—how could he have suddenly co back to life?

Moreover, a year ago, when Miss Calot was buried, Alex was also at the cetery. He was well aware that, by then, Calot was as dead as one could be. And like the Raven Knight, Calot had only a head; that pale face and horrific wounds were still vividly rembered by Alex.

Why, then, had both of these people co back to life?

“Could it be a feigned death? Perhaps the severed heads weren’t actually theirs? If so, then so many people who died in the past, could it be they didn’t really die?”

Alex couldn’t find an answer. He knew little, and his mory was partially lost. He could only look towards Angel, who might know sothing amidst the mysteries that filled his eyes.

“They haven’t co back to life, those two are… undead,” Angel said thoughtfully in a low voice.

When Angel had seen the Raven Knight earlier, he had felt sothing was amiss. Though now without a physical body, his vision hadn’t failed. He distinctly sensed that the being that was the Raven Knight was not made of flesh and blood, but was full of potent Soul Force.

However, their Soul Force was chaotic and disordered, not that of an ordinary soul, but rather of a fallen undead.

But Angel was puzzled; it was exceedingly rare for ordinary people to congeal into a complete soul after death, let alone degrade into an undead.

What exactly had happened in the short two days since their death?

“Undead?” Alex’s brow furrowed even more upon receiving the answer, “Our pursuers are undead? Then it seems the clue has gone cold again.”

After all, they couldn’t interrogate an undead.

“Not necessarily, there might be a controller behind the undead,” Angel said, unintentionally recalling the image of Mandhela. Mandhela could control undead, and so Soul Witches also had ways to control undead on a small scale.

“However, whether the controller is a person from outside the cage or one within it, that’s uncertain.”

If the one controlling the undead was the creator of the cage, finding the truth through this ans would be very difficult. But if the controller of the undead was within the cage, there might be a chance.

Hearing Angel’s words, Alex quickly caught on and looked at Angel, “We need to find Lady Connie!”

Before, Alex needed Lady Connie to leave the Holy City, to feign death, in order to find the killer.

But now, Alex hoped to ensure that Lady Connie stayed alive. Because Lady Connie knew the truth, and if there were soone controlling the undead, and this person was within the cage, they would definitely try to kill Lady Connie. As long as Lady Connie stayed alive, the antagonist would likely reveal themselves in their efforts to kill her.

Angel understood Alex’s thoughts and gazed deeply at him: the one who wanted Lady Connie dead was Alex, and the one who now wanted her to live was also him.

This didn’t an that Alex had developed a conscience; in fact, his desire to keep Lady Connie alive made him seem even more cold-blooded.

Angel suddenly felt that before Alex lost his mory, he might not have been a re mortal.

First, Alex could see through the Illusion Technique to spot his hidden self, aning Alex was highly sensitive to energy; secondly, Alex’s behavior and thought process were not like that of a mortal, but rather like soone who had been steeped in the rules of the Wizards’ Realm for many years.

Of course, this was only Angel’s speculation; perhaps Alex was rely an elegant madman with peculiar thinking.

Minutes later, under Angel’s guidance, Alex arrived at the base of a cliff.

“Is Mrs. Connie here?” Alex asked in confusion.

“If I’m not sensing it wrong, she should be here.” Angel pointed at a pile of weeds to the side, and Alex cautiously approached, pushing aside the weeds to reveal a low stone cave.

The cave was very small, fully visible at a glance. Even though it was dimly lit, Alex still saw Mrs. Connie hiding inside, and he slled a strong odor of blood.

Alex gently nudged Mrs. Connie and got no response, but he could see her chest rising and falling; she seed to have just passed out. The blood, however, kept flowing. Even though Mrs. Connie had wrapped her arm tightly with her clothing, it barely helped. If she didn’t receive imdiate dical attention, she was probably not far from death.

“We can’t move her now; we must first stop the bleeding,” Alex said as he began pulling out various bottles and jars from his divine robe.

These were dical supplies Alex had brought with him before leaving, originally intended for his use in case the killer discovered and injured him. Unexpectedly, they ended up being used on Mrs. Connie.

Worried about the two undead following him, Alex worked quickly. Nevertheless, he was still a step too slow.

Just as he was finishing up, the mournful wail of the undead echoed from afar.

Alex didn’t hesitate to abandon Mrs. Connie, preparing to make his escape. At that mont, preserving his own life clearly took precedence over saving Mrs. Connie.

But his reflexes were quick, Raven Knight and Calot were even faster!

When Alex looked up, he realized that he was only ten short ters away from Raven Knight, who was clutching a longsword. Given the knight’s prowess, closing the distance and dealing with him would be a breeze.

After losing his mory, Alex slled the scent of death for the first ti.

Raven Knight stepped closer.

Alex’s pupils contracted sharply, and cold sweat poured down like rcury.

As Raven Knight got within two or three ters, Alex was prepared to resist with all his might; however, he suddenly noticed that Raven Knight’s gaze was not fixed on him, but darting around in confusion.

As if he couldn’t see him at all.

At that mont, Calot also approached, pointing at the bloodstains on the ground as if trying to convey sothing.

Alex looked down and saw that the trail of blood that had spread to the cave when Mrs. Connie had fled there had eerily turned a corner, extending into the unknown darkness.

Calot, seeing that Raven Knight didn’t pay attention to her, huffed coldly and stepped into the darkness ahead.

Raven Knight hesitated for a mont but still followed her.

A potentially fatal crisis had inexplicably dissipated into nothing.

Alex was still sowhat stunned when he suddenly thought of sothing and turned to Angel, “Mr. Pat, was this…” What happened?

“A little Illusion Technique,” Angel answered casually, but he did not elaborate. The illusion he had cast not only concealed their sight, but also masked their sensory perception of energy and completely covered the scent; it was definitely not a simple illusion.

Alex let out a sigh of relief, “Thank you, you saved my life.”

“That Raven Knight from just now has an incredible perception. He might have noticed sothing was off. Before he reacts, do what you need to do quickly.”

Alex nodded, entered the cave quickly, and went over the unfinished business of stopping the bleeding again.

Soon after, Alex erged carrying Mrs. Connie on his back, “It’s mostly sorted now; we just need to find a safe place to stitch up her wounds.”

“It’s ti to go. I can sense that Raven Knight is beginning to return.”

Alex nodded, carrying Mrs. Connie as they hastily made their way down the mountain.

Just a few minutes after their departure, Raven Knight arrived at the entrance of the cave. When he saw the pool of blood that had filled the cave and recalled how the blood trail he and Calot had been following suddenly disappeared, he instantly understood that their pursuit had been false, and Mrs. Connie had been hiding here all along!

Raven Knight imdiately emitted a strange fluctuation, and Calot ca following the sound.

The two undead, upon witnessing this scene, rushed down the mountain without hesitation.

However, by this ti, under Angel’s guidance, Alex was growing more distant from Raven Knight and Calot…
