Drinks were flying out of the bar like it was a packed Saturday night at the Drunken Noodles—the sa place Cassian and his law enforcent colleagues usually visited. He didn’t spot a single familiar face, yet the place was cramd even at sharp noon.
It was strange to see the bar this full during the day. "Why the hell is it this packed at fucking noon?" a voice muttered right behind him.
He turned and found Lumine looking irritated for so reason.
"No idea. Maybe so holiday," he said, watching her lift a hand toward the bartender. Despite the crowd, a cold brew arrived almost instantly.
"There’s a war going on, for fuck’s sake, and they’re out here celebrating so useless bastard’s birthday or so shit like it’s a all fucking rainbow and flowers..." she snapped, draining the jug in one go and looking even more irritated.
Cassian might’ve shared her mood if he hadn’t had a very fun night with Katherine and then Lucy. He didn’t really want to dig into whatever was bothering her and risk having his little vacation before the war ruined. Still, she was his girlfriend, so with a quiet sigh he asked, "What happened?"
Lumine turned to him, frustration written all over her face. "It’s my stubborn sister. She accepted an offer to lead reinforcent troops..."
"We can’t really help it. It’s war, and as a Sixth Rank Circle Warrior, she has to take part—even if she didn’t want to. In this case, she does," Cassian said, trying to be reasonable, even though logic rarely landed well when soone was angry.
Still, Lumine didn’t snap at him. "I know that. It’s not that," she said, her voice softening. "I was already scared when she worked alone, but this is worse. She’s always had those heroic tendencies—putting others before herself. I don’t want her sacrificing her life for soone else..."
"I’d sacrifice myself for you," Cassian said casually, taking a sip of his drink.
Lumine blinked in shock. It sounded almost like a real confession, like their relationship had suddenly beco official. A little overwheld and slightly bashful, she asked, "Really? You’d die for ?"
Cassian nodded again, just as casually. "Yeah. I’d kill for you too. Dying’s the easy part."
A wide smile spread across her face, her worries slipping away for the mont. What she didn’t know was that Cassian would die for a few other won as well—including her older sister.
"Putting that aside, where are the others? They got my ssage, right?" Cassian asked. He’d sent it through the special service—ssage relay boards mixed with old-fashioned letters.
"About them... they’re not coming. Everyone has things to take care of, or so they told ," Lumine said, placing a few coins on the table. "On that note, I want to spend so ti with Cassandra too, so how about we leave the day after tomorrow?"
"Works for , but why are you leaving so soon? You just got here," he asked.
She walked up to him with a smile and nodded. "I’ve got a few errands to run, but don’t worry—we’ll have plenty of ti together in the future." A mischievous grin tugged at her lips before she leaned in and kissed him, the taste of alcohol lingering in her mouth. Not that he minded—he’d been drinking too. As she pulled away, she added, "Also, bring Hope with you next ti..."
Cassian smiled helplessly as she left, his lips still tingling. He’d wanted to spend more ti with her, but realizing his short vacation had just gained an extra day, he headed back toward the giant tower, hoping Katherine had returned from her magic lab by now.
She had also promised to let him use one of her virgin entrace—sothing Cassian had completely forgotten about the night before.
Just the thought of it, and the expression it would bring to her face when he finally did, made it difficult for him to walk calmly through the crowd like a normal citizen. If he didn’t find a carriage soon, he might end up getting a beaten by the public.
Katherine had no idea what the day still had in store for her, but she was already excited to return to her room after finishing her work. Cassian was staying one more night—how could she not be? Just thinking about it left her flushed and distracted. She quickly finished writing the last few lines and said, "Done for today," as she picked up the kitten and added, "Let’s head back, Ravees."
Ravees looked surprised. Katherine rarely left the lab this early; even when her own work was finished, she usually spent the rest of the day helping others. Thinking about Cassian, irritation bubbled up inside her. He was the reason her lady had been acting so different—so unladylike, so improper. Once they stepped outside the lab, she spoke up, "My lady, if you permit... may I ask sothing a bit offensive?"
"Offensive, huh?" Katherine raised a brow in surprise, then gave a small nod. "Go on."
"Why are you with that kid? What’s so special about him?" Ravees asked, her face tight with disgust.
"You an Cassian?" Katherine smiled brightly. "There are plenty of things, but if I had to pick just one... his dick." She said it without the slightest hint of embarrassnt, her grin only widening at Ravees’ stunned expression. "What? Surprised I said it out loud?"
Ravees could only stare and nod.
"Because it’s true," Katherine went on casually. "I’ve had a few experiences before, but nothing compares to him. Trust —it’s the best you could ever have."
"Is it really that good?" Ravees asked, still unconvinced. She didn’t have much experience with such things, but surely he couldn’t be that exceptional.
Katherine chuckled softly. "I’m not saying this so you go and sleep with him—you’re married, after all. But since you asked... rember that morning? I explained it all very clearly, down to the smallest detail."
The mories Ravees had tried to push aside ca rushing back. She felt her cheeks burn as flashes of Katherine’s shaless description replayed in her mind—too vivid, too detailed. The way she had spoken about him, the confidence in her voice, the way she’d described every sensation so clearly it had almost felt real.
Embarrassed, Ravees lowered her gaze, unable to even look at Katherine, who simply kept walking ahead with an amused smile.
