Chapter 542: Beginning of the Troubled Tis II [Introduction]

The Yan people, saw themselves as superior so they did not know how to ease relations between the people of the grassland and spoke to the people of the grassland like they are an idiot

If you treat soone like an animal, don’t be surprised when that soone also treats you like an animal

Racism is prevalent in this era because a group would feel safer with the sa kind of people.

This discrimination is on all levels.

From those with powers, to those who share the sa hotown, to the one in the village and to the one in the city

There is the others and then there are them

Of course, there is always enlightened thinkers in every era.

There was Mohist thinking during the Seven Kingdoms but their thoughts and ideas could not be accepted.

Why?

Because it is not a tool that the monarchs could use.

Different tis have different ways, the wise uses the ways to control the world and observe the rise and fall of the Way

Those who are superiors always adapts and knows when to retreat and when to advance.

In a peaceful era, Mohism could germinate.

But equality of people is a thought that would not co thousands of years later and it only ca after people suffers and have ti to think the big principle of the world.

When the people see the dead piled up as mountains, and when they understand that the other side is just as the sa as they are, they understand empathy and when empathy is there, the big principle of the world could be enacted

In Aeryon world, the world was slowly turning back into an era of heartlessness.

In the past, when you have to kill people, you have to look the enemy in the eye and feel their blood in your hands as they breathe their last breath

In his ti, how could you cultivate empathy for the people of the world when you could kill a family, a community, a village with a push of a button halfway across the world?

When you could not see your enemy, it is like numbers in a paper, you do not have emotional connection to it.

It is the pity of the era.

Yan thod of excluding people really made people feel disgusting

Even so, if one is under your rule, one is expected to care. But there is exploitation of the people of the grassland and ethnic minorities all over Yan

Not to ntion the people of the Steppe that is annually killed by the people of Yan.

They think of the Steppe people as beast so they treated the Steppe people like animals.

Aeryon is different.

He knows how to take the good and cut off the bad.

He knows when to use rewards and when to use punishnt to these slaves of Yan, his treatnt of them contrast to how the lords of the Yan treated Steppe people.

To those who cross the line, the punishnt he uses is cruel and he make it a public execution to show to the people of the Steppe that he also harbors resentnt.

So, even if he made good treatnt to the Yan people, the people of his tribe and the people of the Steppe do not see him as so kind of person who is too generous.

After all, how could one be generous to a race that always talks about eating your flesh and kill your people?

The people of Yan even made poems and songs to kill the people of the Steppe, so how could one forgive these people easily?

It is a thod of the powerful to divert internal problem to other people and it is the thod of the powerful to designate a group to hate so that they would not be able to see the truth of those who holds power and benefit from the people hatred and ignorance.

However, Aeryon could not change this. So, he could only go along with it.

And it is because of this when a slave of Yan rebels and try to cross the line he had set for them, Aeryon would held a public execution for these slaves.

There is a reason why public execution is used in the ancient past and why the ancient rulers is fond of using it

Evil hearts would be deterred.

The stick and the carrot is a thod old as ti but when to give the carrot and when to give the stick is the secret to ruling

Giving the stick all the ti would make people no longer fear death and people who no longer fear death, fears nothing and the whole world would resist.

Too much oppression is as bad as too much benevolence

If you are too lenient, then ministers would harbors tigers in their hearts and kindness would be mistaken for weakness

The execution serve many purposes.

The majesty of the law is established.

The crueler it is the more people obeyed.

Aeryon would not be naïve to think that he could subdue rebellious people with rebellious hearts with words

There is nothing more convincing than seeing things with your own eyes and that is what Aeryon showed them

Those who wanted to live a stable life would think ten tis before committing a cri.

As for those who are a little braver, they would think three tis before committing a cri

As for those who could not be deterred by punishnt and rcy, when they show their true nature, they would beco an example

But punishnt is only one side of ruling people.

The other is a reward

For those who have talents, Aeryon employed them. He did not only employed them. Employnt is easy. It is giving them the rewards they deserve is the hard part.

He even gives them hope that they could redeem themselves.

This favor is only granted to certain people.

So are his slaves but are not given these favors but are given salaries.

The people of Yan that would surrender to his court willingly could not be found so this is the only way.

The way Aeryon handle them could be considered to be the most benevolent of all chiefs in the Great Steppe.

No one cares so much about slaves lives nor care much about their treatnt.

In the Warring States period, slaves are even considered like a livestock and there is hunting grounds that is actually a hunting ground for slaves.

Slaves would be released into this hunting grounds and the nobles would hunt them like they would hunt animals.

Yan people nature did not change much even after hundreds of years.

It is even the sa in the Steppe.

It is said in the northern great Steppe, the slaves there lives terrible lives.

Even in Roma and Yindu, slaves were not treated this well.

Most of the people captured by the raiders are common people.

They serve their manor leader or the local noble families. They do not know the emperor but they know the local noble families.

After all, it is said, that the power of the Emperor does not extend to the countryside

But even then, they were pressed by taxes, by chaos of the world and the common people find it hard to make a living

The rich and the powerful feast on wine and at, the frozen corpses of the people fills the street!

There is harsh officials and confusing policies, bandits on the mountain, warlords fighting for hegemony, scholars that sches and plots…how could the common people find peace?

These common people then is raided by the raiders of the Steppe. Or the tribes that lives in the north and Nurshira.

And these common people is then sold to all the ones that wanted them. And before these raiders could sell to faraway lands, most of them would go through Nurshira.

Because everyone knows of Brolgadhr city by now and their power and influence. Those who raids, each one of them raids for fortune.

And Brolgadhr has the most fortune.

At least this is the perception in the minds of many raiders.

A strong tribe certainly has the most fortune. Whether it be gold or silver, or food and other precious things, stronger tribes certainly has all of this

Hence, the first place that these slaves is getting sold would be at the bazaar and slave markets of Brolgadhr

And Aeryon usually bought wholesale slaves.

He distinguish which one has talents and could be used, which one could be cultivated to beco grassland people and which one is rebellious and need to be watched before they could be trusted.

To these common people, they must have thought that their lives would be harder under the bondage of the Steppe chief.

But then there is contrast.

They are the slaves of the Steppe people but they have more dignity than when they beco the slaves of the Yan people.

And to these common people, their skills allowed them to eat three days a al, have a house or tents to rest, have possessions and property, and this life is even more prosperous when they have to toil for their noble masters

..

It is actually a ga chapter. But I split it so that it woudl not cost so much coins.
