Capítulo 663: Death Rites
And without him, the effort to divide them would be easier.
As long as Chadha is there, he is like the most powerful pillar holding the alliance up.
Aeryon knows this. And it is one of the reasons why he chooses to be the one to face Chadha.
Chadha existence to his tribe and the alliance is like his own existence toward the Brolgadhr tribe.
Aeryon also knows this, knows its advantage and disadvantage.
While he is here, because of his personal charisma, all of the leaders would listen to him obediently.
But if he died suddenly, this kingdom he had created, while it would not fall quickly, without anyone legitimate to take up the helm, his generals would fight against each other
It would be like when Alexander the Great had died and his generals divided the empires among them
Aeryon did not want the sa thing to happen to him.
He had always delay making a son but now, he understand why a son is needed even more so for a ruler like him
If he dies, then his generals’ hearts would be scattered.
After all, this is not a democratic system.
Whoever has the biggest army wins the world.
This is still that kind of era.
Right now, if he dies, none of his generals could accept anyone related to him.
Belarion has the talent of a great commander and general and while he is slowly showing his talent in administration and ability to learn, he is not soone the other generals would accept as his successor.
If Belarion wanted to protect his legacy, he had to fight the other forces that would not obey and that would weaken the kingdom he had created.
Then what about Ayera?
Ayera would never be accepted as she is now.
If she is pregnant and bore Aeryon a son, then it would make sense for she to lead the tribe before the son is born.
But she is not even pregnant.
Without a son, without soone with blood connection to Aeryon, Ayera is nothing but a widow of the Khan.
And widow in this era did not have a good ending
There is a reason why widows always try to marry n quickly after their husband dies.
It is not out of ungratefulness; it is out of necessity and survival.
Different tribes have different ways with dealing with widows but whatever the tribe is treatnt toward widows is not that good.
Of course, if Ayera beco a widow, she would not be treated like normal widow. After all, she is of a high status
But even then, without any connection to him, she would either be exiled form the tribe or be executed in a power struggle.
His generals are all brave n and the traits of brave n are they all stubborn.
These brave n would not mind and even honoured to be at his beck and calls but against others?
They would not respect other orders as they respected his orders
One thing is clear.
There would be a massive upheaval and it might even capsize his kingdom if he dies without an heir.
With an heir, his generals and all of the people that benefited from his reform would have soone who could continue his legacy.
“I really need to think to make children now. Now, it is no longer a matter of pleasure. It is a matter of necessity and survival” he mutters to himself. It is only now after looking and analysing the effect of Chadha death, he understands the severity of the problem
He sighed. For a mont, his head is jumbled up with many thoughts.
But then he sighed.
He brought out a leather and begin writing. And then in the middle of the night, he called his ssenger
“Send this to the Ashana and told them to send soone as an envoy to the Chagai tribe to express my condolences for the death of their chief”
The ssenger quickly takes the leather and goes to the Ashana area and give it to them. The Ashana convenes that night and quickly sends soone among them to the settlent of the Chagai.
That night even though it seems nothing had happened, a lot of things had happened
…
Chayun is inside the tent. This tent used to belong to his father but now, today, it belongs to him
Before his father had died, he had nad him and make the Ashana sworn an oath to protect his succession
This death of his father had co as a shock to him.

His father did not die in a battle but because of sickness.
Many of the generals of Chagai believe that his father would die unsatisfied.
They believe that his father would want to die in the battlefield
Chayun don’t think so.
Chayun believe that his father would have accepted death calmly whether he is dying inside his tent or fighting in the battlefield. It would not be like these generals and warriors saying his father would die unsatisfied on the way he had die
“These people don’t know my father” he thought to himself.
And then Chayun sighed. If this was a normal ti, Chayun would not have sighed and feeling headache.
When a chief died, usually the entire tribe entered a period of mourning.
So would wail loudly; so would cut their hair and so would even wound themselves a sign of grief
In so tribes, so of the warriors loyal to the chief would scar their faces or arms to show loyalty
But before his father died, he had reminded everyone that a war is imminent and to wail loudly is to inform the enemy, to cut their hair would lower their resolve, to wound themselves is to weaken oneself before a war
The big picture must not be forgotten
They are forbidden by the chief himself to scar their faces or body. The chief had reminded them and told them all of this before he dies.
With this act, there is no such intense deep mourning but everyone has gratitude for his father.
Because of this order, Chayun knows his father is doing this to win their goodwill.
The common people might not know but those in powers knows.
The warriors and family mber that would wail loudly, that cut their hair or wound themselves did not an they are truly mourning them.
Instead, it is more of a know-how of how to survive in the next regi. It is based on necessity and survival.
No one knows who started it but it probably started because of this feeling.
Of course, there is also a chance that in the past, there were chief that is mourned this extrely.
But if one truly mourns like this, those who are not mourning it like that would be seen as not mournful.
And in a society, one would wonder if that one person would mourn so tragically for that person but his closest persons did not mourn that person like the other mourners, did this an that the person before them is evil or is the one not mourning is ungrateful?
And then as more and more people do it like this, the mourning itself beco like a performance.
The common people did not need such performance. Grief is personal. So laugh in grief, so cry, so wail, so went silent with shock, so only felt the grief later.
But for the people in power, even their death could not escape political performance. Not for the dead…but for the living
It is a thod in the past to alleviate the feeling of worries of the next chief. This display is not so much for the dead, but for the living.
Chayun understood this and his father also understood this
So, instead of doing that, he forbidden the people to mourn them
This action is action that is winning their hearts even after he is dead.
And because of it, they are more receptive to his orders even after his death
Chayun expected opposition but clearly his father had deal with it before he dies.
After that last conversation he had with his father, his father had been doing things behind his back
Most of them probably are the manoeuvring among the powerful elders and warriors to make sure that when the ti cos for him to take the reins of the chief, he would suffer no coup, and no objection
Chayun could imagine that if that ti, when his father announces to the tribe that he would succeed his father and soone objected, the rift that would be created would be fatal in the current circumstances.
They are at war, in the front lines, fighting and if suddenly there is a case of turmoil for the succession, then the army would be divided.
The Khan would not even have to attack them before they collapsed by themselves
And that is the one thing that his fathered feared the most and probably the reason why his father had been running around a few days before his death assuring people and making deals.
For now, his father body is preserved temporarily.
The Ashana knew the thod of embalming. So, they could preserve his father body for a while
Chayun could not help but sigh
“I should decide quickly” he thought to himself
