Capítulo 728: Chapter 728 – Taming the Fifth Year – Keep Your Silence Between Us – 2

Luna pressed her mouth into a tight line, sothing pushing at her throat.

“From the beginning,” Ren said, his tone taking on a quality that was softer, more intimate, like he was sharing secrets ant only for her ears, “you saw , when nobody else did. When I was just the kid with the world’s weakest spore, you saw sothing more.”

He paused, allowing the words to settle.

Letting her rember those early days. The monts she thought nobody noticed when she’d defended his presence in subtle ways. When she’d treated his opinions like they mattered before anyone else believed they did.

“You supported . Subtly, yes… Without making a big deal of it, but you did. Every mont where you defended my presence when others questioned whether I should be there I rember.”

Luna’s eyes widened.

She hadn’t realized he’d noticed. Had thought her support had been invisible enough that he wouldn’t recognize it as deliberate rather than coincidental.

“I saw you too,” Ren said with absolute conviction. “I saw soone strong pretending to be even stronger. I saw soone carrying weight nobody should carry alone. I saw soone…”

He stopped, searching for the right words.

“I saw soone who deserved to be helped like she helped others.”

Luna felt her eyes burning. No… She couldn’t cry. Not here, not now. Not in a room full of other students who might notice weakness and use it.

But the tears threatened anyway. Pushing against control that was already crumbling under the weight of words she’d needed to hear without knowing she needed them.

“So this is what I offer you,” Ren continued, his voice steady despite the intensity of what he was saying. “Help without conditions, without pressure, and without demands.”

He pulled her slightly closer, the movent subtle but deliberate. Creating intimacy through proximity that made the rest of the room fade further into irrelevance.

“Just… let be here. Let be the support that you were for .”

“And I promise,” his voice beca fierce in its intensity, carrying conviction that bordered on anger but was directed at the circumstances rather than persons, “I promise not to rush. I won’t launch myself at your problems without thinking. I won’t complicate things by acting impulsively as you may think I would…”

Sothing in Luna’s expression changed.

A flash of recognition so profound it was visible despite all her efforts to maintain composure. Like those specific words had touched exactly the fear she’d been carrying. Like he sohow knew what she’d been most terrified of and had addressed it without her having to explain.

“Because you’re important,” Ren repeated, making sure she heard it. Making sure she believed it. “And whatever you need is important too. I’m not going to risk it or ruin it by satisfying sothing like my own ‘sense of justice’.”

The words seed calculated to address fears he shouldn’t know about but apparently did.

His sense of justice. The thing that drove him to fix problems and confront injustice. The quality she admired and feared in equal asure because it was beautiful but dangerous when applied to situations with consequences he didn’t understand.

He was promising to restrain that too. To put her needs above his instincts. To be patient when patience went against every impulse.

Ren drew her gently closer. “I just need you to trust that when you’re ready, when you need help in the specific way you need it, I’ll be there.”

“Waiting patiently.”

Luna looked at him, really looked, and saw absolute truth in his eyes.

He ant it.

Every word.

Not manipulation. Just genuine commitnt offered without expecting anything in return. The kind of support that didn’t co with hidden costs or unspoken obligations.

She thought about responding…

Her mouth opened. Words forming.

But before she could speak, Ren pulled her.

Not roughly or violently.

But with sufficient force and surprise that Luna lost whatever words she’d been about to say. They scattered like startled birds, forgotten in the sudden shift of dynamics.

And the dance changed.

It was no longer the soft and controlled practice from before.

Now it was more intense. Faster. More… demanding.

Ren guided her through more complex turns, steps that required total trust in her partner. Movents where an error ant a certain fall. Where hesitation would result in collision or stumble.

The difficulty ramped up without warning or permission. Testing whether her trust extended beyond emotional vulnerability into physical reliance.

Luna didn’t fall.

Because Ren held her. Guided her. Kept her safe even while pushing her to dance beyond what they’d practiced until now.

It was exhilarating.

The kind of rush that ca from moving at the edge of control.

It was terrifying.

It was…

Against every instinct she’d cultivated.

It was against self-reliance and independence.

It was perfect.

Luna found herself smiling without realizing it. A small smile, barely visible, but genuine.

The first real smile she’d had in weeks.

Not the polite noble smile she wore for social functions. Not the cold smirk she used to intimidate opponents. But actual happiness breaking through despite all her efforts to contain it.

And Ren saw it.

Of course he saw it.

His own smile responded, small and secret, just for her.

An expression that suggested he’d been hoping for exactly this. That seeing her smile was sohow worth all the careful maneuvering and patient waiting and everything else he’d done to reach this mont.

They continued dancing like that, intense and beautiful, for what felt like eternity but was probably only minutes.

Ti distorting the way it did when you were completely absorbed in sothing. When awareness narrowed to just movent and music and the person in your arms.

Until the music stopped.

Until the instructor announced that practice hours had ended.

Until the ballroom began slowly emptying of couples who’d been absorbed in their own practices and hadn’t noticed the small drama unfolding in the center of the floor.

Ren and Luna stopped, still in dance position, still close.

Too close to be completely appropriate now that the music had ended and the excuse of practicing was gone.

But neither moved.

Not imdiately.

The spell hadn’t quite broken yet. The bubble they’d created around themselves still holding despite their external reality intruding.

Luna opened her mouth, ready to respond, to say… sothing.

But Ren raised his hand slowly, bringing his index finger near Luna’s lips.

Without touching them.

Just… close. So close that Luna could feel the heat of his skin across the small space between them. Could feel the air displaced by his movent. Could track every milliter of distance that remained.

“Think about it tonight,” he said quietly, his eyes holding hers with the sa intensity that stole her breath. “Think about what I said. About what I’m offering.”

“And tomorrow,” he continued, his finger still suspended in that almost-but-not-quite touching space, “if you want my help, if you want to tell even a little of what you’re carrying… I’ll be here…”

“Waiting patiently for your decision.”

He lowered his hand slowly, giving a step back and finally breaking the intimate bubble they’d created around themselves.

The air between them cooled. Distance reasserting itself. Reality returning with all its complications, political considerations and reasons why this was dangerous.

“Thank you for the dance, Luna,” he said with a formality that contrasted markedly with the intensity of the previous mont.

Like they hadn’t just had a conversation that changed everything. Like he hadn’t just offered unconditional support and made her forget they were in a room full of witnesses.

And then he turned and began walking toward the exit.

Leaving Luna standing in the center of the practice floor, her heart beating so hard she was certain everyone in the hall must be able to hear it.

A drum that proclaid feelings she’d denied. That betrayed every careful lie she’d constructed about her own emotions.

Her hand rose unconsciously toward her lips, touching where Ren’s finger had been so close.

So close.

But not touching.

Leaving the decision completely in her hands.
