As I walked through the halls, I used another one of my ravens to check how things were going on the outside.

I saw so of the ghouls who were given special organs that enabled them to fly. So had insect-type wings, others had wings similar to those of a bird or a bat.

Those who could fly hovered in the sky, keeping watch on the vampires still outside our walls.

The other ghouls were standing on top of the walls with Yuki leading them.

The lamias, on the other hand, were standing down below the wall. They carried weapons dipped in their potent venom.

They mostly carried spears, which suited their fighting style. Lamias struck fast, just like a snake. Their movents were faster than what most people could comprehend.

Usually, they delivered one quick strike, and there was usually a small delay before the next strike.

They used their spears to expand their reach, giving one decisive blow.

The vampires I conquered from the Sun clan were also preparing for the battle to co.

Since I turned them, their vampire abilities had gotten even stronger.

"When do you think they’ll attack?" Khalissi asked as we walked through the halls.

"I don’t have a clue. Cassian’s aura is repelling my shadow ravens from getting any closer. I find it strange; they should’ve attacked by now."

Could he be planning sothing?

Maybe I wasn’t the only one scheming. I shouldn’t underestimate vampires.

Suddenly, Khalissi got quiet. Her forehead was wrinkled. Sothing that always happened when she was deep in thought.

I noticed she had been zoning out a lot recently. I had a feeling that sothing was on her mind, but I would have to ask her about it after everything was over.

Just then, I saw Isabella, Kumo, Selthia, and Sylvie approaching us. It might’ve been my imagination, but the four of them seed close.

Strange...

Usually, this was the point where Sylvie would rush towards , but instead she was hanging back with the girls, standing in the middle of them.

Her face was slightly flushed, and she was staring off to the side to not make eye contact with .

"Darling!"

Selthia was the first to rush towards as if distracting from Sylvie.

"Did sothing happen?" I asked.

"Umm, no, of course not. We’re just worried about that vampire that is lurking outside our territory," Selthia quickly answered, putting on a smile.

I could hardly focus on her words over the sound of her heart beating like a war drum inside her chest. This made even more suspicious with everything about to happen. Though I couldn’t fault them for being worried.

"Anyway, where do you want us?" Isabella asked.

"I need the four of you fighting on the front lines. Help keep the ghouls and lamias at bay."

"What about their leader?! Sylvie wants to help!"

For the first ti, Sylvie spoke up, looking adamant. She must’ve figured that I was going to face Cassian Veylmont and wanted to help.

I rested my hand on the top of her head to comfort her, and her ears drooped like a sad puppy.

"Don’t worry, I’ll have Khalissi by my side to protect ." I said..

She put on a smile and nodded.

"Our alpha is right. He can handle himself; it is us that should do our part to help him out," Isabella said, managing to give a more convincing argunt than .

With that, the girls gave a kind smile and turned to leave, but just then I grabbed onto Selthia’s hand, pulled her into and hugged her tightly.

Her face flushed red.

"Darling, you..."

"Be safe out there. You’re important to too. Don’t do anything reckless. I still need you."

Hearing that, her body softened against mine, and she nodded her head.

"I know, you don’t have to tell that, darling," her voice was soft and a bit emotional as she leaned against my chest.

After a while, we finally parted ways, and the girls went off.

"What was that for?" Khalissi asked, waking up from her daze.

"Just a gut feeling."

Selthia had a way of making herself a martyr. I just wanted to make sure she didn’t belittle her importance and do sothing reckless.

"Co on, it’s ti to go."

....

Outside the towering wall of the community known as Grey Waste, an army of vampires stood waiting. This small army numbered over a hundred.

These vampires were all dressed in black, their eyes red with hunger. They made sure not to drink any blood before the battle, therefore their hunger would be more ravenous.

Cassian Veylmont stood in front of the wall, feeling extrely agitated.

"Where the hell is that woman?!" He growled under his breath. "Damn you, Persephone."

The real reason why he didn’t attack yet wasn’t because he had so master plan; it was simply because the witch of calamity was running late.

She wanted to co so she could retrieve the mana crystals the wolf stole. But now she was running late.

Just when Cassian’s anger was going to boil over, he heard the sound of heels clicking on the ground towards him.

He turned around, his eyes sharp and deep red like the color of blood.

"Where the hell have you been? You should’ve been here hours ago."

"I’m sorry I’m late. I lost track of ti at the lab," Persephone said as she walked towards Cassian. "You look more irritable than usual. Are you sure you’re in the right headspace to do this?"

Cassian’s eyes turned into a sharp glare. At that mont, he was fighting with all his strength to strangle the witch right in front of him.

But instead of doing that, he turned his ire back to the giant wall. Imdiately, a red aura shrouded him.

It resembled mist made of blood. The blood mist then changed shape, turning into liquid.

Seeing this, Persephone looked blankly at him before taking a step back, and just as she did, a loud explosion erupted.

BOOM!!

In a split second, the entire surrounding was engulfed in rubble and dust.

The colossal wall that once surrounded the community was reduced to nothing.

"Kill them all."
